Hey all, I'm running an adventure at the moment, and my PC's are falling a bit behind the level, and hence are having a lot of trouble with the spell resistance heavy campaign so we've decided to knock the up three levels or so, so we can all really enjoy the end, what kind of reason would you give to there sudden power boost?

Thanks for any help! :D

Perhaps special training might work. Another option is the influence of powerful entities or items that can boost their power.

Maybe do it behind the screen, have a climactic encounter with a hit-point heavy, but kid-glove hitting BBEG. It would be hard to balance and not exactly RAW (but then again, neither is a 3 level jump), but it would give them a sense of accomplishment rather than just handing them three free levels.

Another way to do it might be to postpone the next portion of your adventure for a bit, announce you're doing away with XP, and run a session or two that gives them the levels they need...again so they feel they've earned it instead of it just being handed to them.

Hell, if they aren't too attached to their characters, you could kill them all off, have them roll up characters of the appropriate level sent to recover the remains and finish the mission the original party was out to do.

Silver Crusade

Why do you need a sudden level boost? I'd recommend a side quest with adversaries that don't give them quite so much trouble, then loop back to the main story when they've gained those levels. I don't know exactly what the PCs are encountering (suspicion isn't knowledge), but either drop a Young template on them or skim a level or two if you don't want to ,or can't detour.

Divine Intervention? As in a diety has an interest in them being able to accomplish their goal, so it permanently or temporarily bumps their levels. Maybe the deal is a temporary increase and if they succeed greatly the diety says the levels are permanent as a special reward.

This kind of intervention can be from many powerful type beings. Dragons, Dieties, powerful outsiders, etc. The only resriction I can see is that it probably cant be from a being that uses Negative energy.

Hilden has the option I use. If the PCs are falling behind the curve of XP needed, send them on a few side Adventures, up their XP till they're powerful enough for your AP and turn em loose!

Another way is to weaken your current AP to them. I like Hilden's take more than this one but it is an option also.

Allies for them? Help them in numbers? All ideas you can use if you don't want to run any side adventures.

Hope some of these help.

Have fun out there!

You need a level up montage.

Truly awesome are the powers of the DM. With a wave of the hand, three levels are gained with no questions asked.
