Hi all,
As some of you might know, Headless Hydra Games is currently working on a new Pathfinder compatible book, a book full of spells. So far I've called this the Spell Compendium Project, but that's not really a cool name for a book...
So...
A contest!
Come up with a really cool name for our book of spells and win a few prices.
The prices, of course, will be a pdf copy of the finished book and a print copy of the new Forgotten Foes monster book, coming out later this year. Oh, and while waiting for the finished spell book, you will get the playtest version, so that you can help us playtest all the goodies.
Please post your names here!
Arcane in the Membrane
more srsly:
Vault of Magick
tome of arcania? not too origional. or a more obsure book written by the exentrick gnome wizard Daernig? something like
the arcane learnings of Daernig. not great
The Green Grimoire
The Banned Book of Magical Mischief
The Wizard's Wealth
Alliterations are awesome. Names with them are easy to remember, and it generally fits good to fantasy content.
I kind of like Spell Tome or Tome of Spells.
Or even The Book of Spells (it plays of the Book of Kells)
Heck, what about just Spell Book? It's simple, catchy, easy to remember and makes you think of a wizard's spell book ...
OK, I'm done now ;)
Well, it would help to know a little more about the book; estimated size, etc. Naming it the Grand Grimoire would seem silly if it turns out to be a 16-page pdf with 30 spells, for example.
Also, any name including "arcane", "arcana", etc. could be considered semi-inappropriate if this book will contain divine spells, rather than you planning a separate follow-up book (i.e., "Secret Scrolls of Power" followed by "Sacred Scrolls of Might").
Details...yes!
At this moment, the book contains somewhere between 200 and 300 new spells, both divine and arcane, however, most will probably be of the arcane versions (and not intentional).
The spells cover all levels, but when counted, will probably contain an overweight of cantrips and 1-3 level spells.
The book will also feature quite a big number of named spells and profiles of their creators. There will probably also be a small number of feats and magic items as well, with ties to the spells.
I'll toss 3 into the mix...
The Handbook of Hocuspocus
Portfolio of Prestidigitation
Lexicon of Vallent, Winn & Woodwright
Adventure Path Charter Subscriber; Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path Subscriber
Hmm, maybe Well of Spells?
I've actually given this thought many times. I humbly propose:
The Spell Vault
Tome of Thaumaturgy
Caster's Codex
Mage Manual
Vade Mecum
Witch Writings
The Infinite Scroll (Volume One)
Opus Occultist
Pathfinder Starfinder Society Subscriber
Ianus Tome: Collected Spells of High Sorcery.
Spells Off the Top of Our Heads
Ahem, yes perhaps too much, but that was all I could think of that was different.
Paths of Magic
Lost Lore
Dweomers Discovered
I'm pretty sure 'Unearthed Arcana' is taken. :)
This sound like fun so i will give a few humorus titles.
Awesome Arcana of the Amazing Arcane
Spectacular Spellbook Of Stygian Secrets
Spectacular Spellbook Of Secret Spells
The Comprehensive Compendium of Colossal Incantations
The Colossal Compendium of Comprehensive Incantations
The Gargantuan Grimoire of Great Magics
Massive Manuscript of Marvelous Magics

:)
I'd buy this.
Thanks guys, for participating in this contest! I'll let the contest run until the 31st of May.
I certainly wont rule out a humorous title, but it has to be damn clever! :)

Libram of Magical Might
Supernatural Script of Sorcerous Supremacy
and i still like: Spells and Stuff by Headless Hydra
The Master's Metaphysical
Book of Spells: A Caster's Guide to Occult Rarities
Enigmatic Encyclopedia
Vade Veneficus or Vade Veneficus Mecum
Vade mecum means:
a book for ready reference : manual
2 : something regularly carried about by a person
Veneficus is latin for magic.
I'm not a latin scholar, so things may not be properly conjugated.
Libris Arcanum
There's my $0.02. Best of luck with the book!
tumbler wrote: Veneficus is latin for magic. "Veneficus" is Latin for "mixing poison". With different endings, it can mean "poisoner" or "witch". It pretty much always has an evil meaning. Latin for "magic" (without the negative connotations) is "magicus" or "ars magica".
Treaties Thaumaturgy
The Legerdemain Lexicon
Incantations Manual
Hocus Pocus
for my 2cp...
The Malificarnum Codex vol.1
Desunis Desuranis (forgive the spelling here I'm not good at Latin but it is the witches Book or something close to that)
Last chance, guys, to come up with a really cool name for the Headless Hydra Games' Spell Compendium and win some cool prizes!
There have already been some seriously cool names, but the contest is still running!

Headless Hydra Games
With setting of Mor Aldenn, and your statement about named caster's stats and spells, I think you should take your biggest named caster and use them as the focus of the book, allowing them to write about the casters, spells, introduction, etc.
Call the book _________'s Grimoire: Magic of Mor Aldenn
How about:
The Big Fat Book of Magic Spells
or
Enlightened Arcana
Magic! The Gathering of Spells
The name of this company makes me wonder what a hydra who had no heads, just a bunch of tentacles in place of them, would be like.
Kind of the new flail snail, in effect, I suppose...
Simple and elegant:
The Master Tome
Ammunition Arcane
Eldritch Convolute (not entirely sure about the second part, at least in german research a "Konvolut" is some kind of compilation)
Du Hast Arcana (just kidding)
Spellonomicon
Caster's Companion
Code X
Satisfy Your Thaumat-Urge! (maybe used best as a subtitle)
Liber Aeternus
Vex Hex
Fundamens Fulminans
Magenificient
... that's it for now. ^^
A nod to Disney's Gargoyles:
Grimorum Arcanorum.
The Grimore of Lost Magics
Manual of Mystic Might seems like a good choice to me. :)
As does the Caster's Compendium.
Slightly more esoteric but...
Beyond Reality
The Master Arcane and Godly Identification Codex
By Will Alone
Words of Power
Rewriting the World
(Magic and those who wield it)
I'll Add more if I come up with anything better.
Book of Infinite Spells, we should have had one ages ago already ^_^
how about:
Treatise of the Legerdemain
Book of Infinite Spells : Chapter 1, just incase there will be a Chapter 2 to follow this one :p
Maybe....
"The Sorcerer's Lament"
"Reflections of Ruinous Wizardry"
"Compleat Codex of Conjury"
"Book of Fell Powers"
"Writings on Systemic Fuction"
"DECENTIA" - this one is a made up Acronym of the first letters of each school of magic in PF. D= Divination, E= Evocation, C= Conjuration, E= Enchantment, N= Necromancy, T= Transmutation, I= Illusion, A= Abjuration
my 2cp :)
PS, if anyone takes my "Acronym" idea, I claim it first here, regardless of your "word" =) humbly, I might add.
"Magipedia"
"Knowledge Arcana"
"Magic of Past and Present"
"Masters of Magic"
"Spellmastery"
"Magic and Mystery"
"Mage"
roughly in the order I like them, magipedia is easy and catchy, knowledge arcana relates directly to the game, the other titles might be fitting depending on the final lay out and content of the book.
Thanks for all the cool names! I've really enjoyed following the name developments and have decided to post my absolute favorites!
