Star Wars PbP - Dawn of Defiance Campaign - Needs new Players

Gamer Connection

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far, away...

Interested in a Star Wars Saga Edition campaign set just after the Clone Wars?

Do you have what it takes to take on the newly formed Galactic Empire? Are you a disillusioned clone warrior? How abot a rogue Jedi youngling grown up and ready to take your first steps towards justice? Maybe a young idealist noble wanting to make a difference in the universe.

If interested, submit a background for a 1st level character.

This will be an anti-Imperial campaign so no Sith, no Imperial spies, etc. One thing to be dark, another to be evil.

Jedi/Force users are allowed but hunted agressively by the Empire.

May the Force be with you!

Here are the character creation rules:

Dawn of Defiance campaign

I would be interested in playing a Scoundrel unless there is another class that would fit better into your current campaign. Should I post a background here?

Thanks.

Scoundrel works well. Please post here if you don't mind.

I would be interested in playing a Jedi, although I know that there alredy is one in play so I would understand if two are too many.

Either way, a preliminary draft of a character (without background) is here (note that certain parts of it, such as Coruscant for his location, are not final, simply there to fill up space). As I am at work, I will not be able to have a background ready until a few hours from now, but personality-wise he is rather relaxed in comparison to most Jedi and their more serious outlook; one of his goals (if not his main one other than being a pain in the Imperial ass) is to become as skilled as he can be in lightsaber combat.

One question though in case I am considered so that I could write up a bit of his story so far: How many years (if any) after Episode III and the Jedi purge is the campaign taking place?

The Dawn of Defiance campaign is set during the period between Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. The first adventure begins just a few months after the end of the Clone Wars, which is roughly 19 years before the Battle of Yavin (Episode IV).

I am okay with you being a Jedi provided you play it so that he isn't running around with his Lightsaber at every opportunity. Do you have a cover? What skills lend themselves to that cover?

Hope that helps!

Colvin Dashwind

Human Scoundrel

This background is of course the truth that Colvin believes from his point of view and may not necessarily be the truth. Hopefully it is a background that you can work with or just ignore if that works better for the campaign. :-)

History

Spoiler:
Colvin grew up in the city of Drev’starn on the planet of Bothawui. Coming from a somewhat influential family of human politicians hailing from Duro he was insulated from the world around him. All Colvin knew was that his parents were important people that met with important people. Despite this Raven, Colvin’s father, taught him how to fight from a young age stating that it was very important. While the other children in his inner circle were learning multiple languages and diplomacy Colvin learned the art of combat. He felt foolish and ashamed for this and would isolate from his peers.

It was not until he became a teenager that the truth of his family was revealed, his parents only posed as nobles from Duro but were in fact spies and assassins owing their allegiance to an ancient order known as the GenoHaradan. The truth came at the expense of the life of Colvin’s mother Leona Dashwind. She was slain after her cover was somehow blown and she was exposed as a spy. This was a dangerous time in the universe as the Clone War was raging across the galaxy.

The death of his mother was a huge blow to Colvin. Though his father managed to track one of her killers still on Bothawui he was not able to determine the reason for her assassination. Colvin wanted desperately to find out who had done this. Unfortunately, the search for the assassins that escaped Bothawui was delayed because of the Battle of Bothawui and no ships could leave the planet or at least none that wanted to survive. Raven Dashwind agreed to bring young Colvin with him in an attempt to avenge Leona’s death knowing that if her cover was blown than an attempt on him must simply have been botched. Raven reached out to his contact in the GenoHaradan but this produced unsatisfactory results.

The GenoHaradan considered her death to be beyond the affairs that Raven should have included himself in and he was told to stay on Bothawui and resume his post. It was bad enough his contact noted that two agents had been married and had offspring, failure to comply with the current mission would be met with extreme disapproval. Raven believed that he was compromised and refused to risk Colvin’s life by staying. In fact now he was unsure whether the Geno’s had something to do with Leona’s death.

Raven took Colvin and began his search for answers on Duro. On the journey Raven explained to Colvin that the Dashwind family is a legacy in the GenoHaradan, one of the few since its inception millennia before. The GenoHaradan are an organization that attempts to exert control over the galaxy through assassination. He was fourth in the male line to join the organization and was grooming Colvin for admission into the organization. Raven began to instruct Colvin on the subtle art of political intrigue and quiet assassination (only in theory though as there were no targets to hit). The search on Duro yielded a trail to Bespin from one of Raven’s contacts. That lead turned out to be an ambush that the Dashwind’s only barely survived. This was Colvin’s first action and the first time he had been forced to take another’s life. At only 16 it was a harrowing but eye opening experience. Thankfully his father had taught him how to use a blaster or that may have been his first and last fight. The last surviving assassin from the failed ambush gave up a lead to Coruscant and so again across the galaxy Raven and Colvin traveled.

Unfortunately the search ended there. The lead to Coruscant also proved to be a set up that took the life of Raven and the other two assassins. Colvin at the age of 18 was now alone. With only a few credits Colvin was not sure where to turn. There was no motive, nor a perpetrator that Colvin could identify in the death of his parents. It was not even clear why anyone wanted them dead besides the fact that they were spies.

It was at that point that the galaxy turned upside down. Smoke and flames from high above his current position were coming from the Jedi Temple. This probably explained why there were no authorities to interfere with the blaster battle that just took the life of his father. It turned out that the Jedi were traitors to the Republic! Indeed they had tried to assassinate the Supreme Chancellor and were only barely stopped from a full takeover of the Republic. Not that Colvin had much use for the Republic or the Jedi anyhow so he was not so worried overmuch about this development.

His more immediate concern was for his own life. Colvin knew that if his identity was revealed the same enemies that claimed the lives of his parents may claim his as well. Colvin paid for a transport away from Coruscant. He did not know if he should try to contact the GenoHardan (they may have been the ones who had slain his parents) or if he should return to Bothawui or Duro. With such a tangled weave of deception and no clear answers Colvin decided to stay away from what he knew. Instead he sought out employment in the underworld since this was his only viable skill and the legacy of his family, at least according to his father. So he went off to see the galaxy and hopefully one day avenge his parents’ deaths. [

If this is approved let me know and I will work on the character stats tomorrow.

Very nice. Consider it approved. I would like you to work out why you ended up on a remote space station, working for a woman named Maya. She has had you running errands, cleaning droid parts, and searching for a cargo shipment.

I'm interested, Give me a bit to make something up and see if I can figure out to make up the char. Is there any material i would have to have to play other than what you linked?

This is a Saga edition game so the Saga Edition core rulebook would help. The character creation guidelines are pretty much all you need to get started.

The party sure could use a Field Medic (Noble or Soldier) but everything is fair game.

If you need help with character creation, let me know. The point buy system is very much like the old 3.5 D&D system.

Great. Where is the remote spacestation?

I will work that onto the end of my current background and also flesh out his personality as well as complete a character sheet your review tomorrow.

--Still AAremeth-- Well, I don't have the book so some help would be appreciated, but at the same time, without the information I don't mind if you give me up as a lost cuase. I printed out the Character sheet and am looking at the Wiki, I would be up for playing a Soldier Medic, It would be fun to play an Iridonian if possible.

I found a couple of sites that might help supplement my lack of info.

I can help if you need it. I don't see where Iridonian stats can be found in the rulebooks so I would have to pass on that choice.

Hmmmm, okie dok, Well I suppose I will stick to Pathfinder games then, sorry to flip flop on you, I'd rather not be a trouble maker for ya.

Here he is.

Alistair Cray

P.S. Aren't Iridonians more or less the same species as Zabrak (according to this anyway)?

Well there you go Grim. Good catch Castor! So Zabrak (aka Iridonians) are a valid choice.

It's been a little while since I've cracked open my Saga rule book. I'll get it out tonight and take a look. I have an idea for a human soldier. He's basically a security guard on a small mining colony, and both he and the colony are of little interest to anyone, until he commits a noble act that results in the Empire coming to the colony and his going on the run. I'm looking at a pistol wielding, brawling soldier, though some medical skills would certainly fit.

Well, I'm just at a loss, for how to make up the character with out the book, lol. I think I may just read the thread and watch. Thanks for the oppurtunity though.

Sounds good! Approved to start your character.

With the interest shown, I am cutting off any new players expressing interest (unless you want to wait in the wings as an alternate).

F. Castor - Jedi
markofbane - Soldier/Medic
Dennis Harry - Scoundrel

AAremeth - ?

I would very much like to get you involved as early as Monday if you can have your characters up to speed.

F. Castor - Since you are already up to speed and approved, I can place you immediately if you are interested. E-mail me off-line so that I can fill you in quickly.

Dennis - the space station is near Brental

Sure, no problem. Here is my email:

Sorry, but no, I am going to have to step out and simply read the thread. I prefer to be an assest instead of a liability.

Start on the Soldier. I'll try to get his stats worked out tonight.

I think you may be missing a few ability points according to this:

Thanks. I'm not sure if I'll put the extra points toward Wisdom or Intelligence yet. I need to look at the skills first and see what would be more helpful. Its been a while since I've read the rules for Saga so I can't do it off the top of my head... :)

Yep, Castor is right. You get 28 and you spent 24. You could have a 12 in both Wis and Int if you want.

Okay, I believe Eamch Stone is ready to go. I've read the Saga rules, but have not played them before, so I am wide open to others checking my numbers and actions.

Eamch Stone, who most just call Stone, arrives broke and somewhat defeated. His previous life was shattered when an old rival, Minnios Giddlet, returned to the obscure mining outpost as an Imperial officer. When Stone tried to help some non-human indentured servants escape before they were unjustly executed, everything went very bad. He ended up having to be smuggled off the planet, an exercise that drained every last credit that he had. Having just arrived, Stone starts to look for a way to make a livelihood, rebuild his life and find a new purpose. He wears the chocolate brown and black uniform that he fled in, that of a Responder (sort of a combination police officer and paramedic, responding to any sort of emergency or disturbance at the colony), though he's taken off the insignias and markings. He carries the patrol gear he had with him when things went awry, his blaster and his medpack.

Colvin is ready to go. His stats, personality and updated history are in his profile.

Let me know if everything looks good Kalderaan and I will jump right in :-) Thngs look like they are heating up !

Colvin is good to go. I did a cursory check and things lined up pretty well. I will scrutinize later but feel free to jump in with an Initiative and Perception check. You are approaching Gundarks from the opposite direction as Alistair and Stone. You see the blaster fire and see a young lady drop in the doorway of Gundarks.

I changed my stats to conform to the format others have been using. I gaffed with my languages (I should have had 3 more languages based on my Intelligence so I added those).

I posted a question in wha I thought was an OOC thread for the game but I will repost here for convenience. Based upon where I am standing can I shoot the back up figures I see for the agents that are standing in the doorway blasting the cantina? I know my turn is not for a while but I want to check my options first so I know exactly what to do on my turn.

Thanks :-)

Dennis, I think Colvin should have a total of 8 languages considering his Intelligence is 16 (meaning a bonus of +3) and he has the Linguist feat, at least if I understand the rules correctly.

Kalderaan, I hope I am not overstepping by the way.

Thanks Castor I corrected that :-)

As this is my first Saga SW character I knew I would miss something on the first go around. :-/
