Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

It's early morning and a bunch of very tired adventurers have gathered around Greta Wilkerson's wagon in the marketplace. The elderly lady in question seems to be in a good mood as she is humming to herself while cramming what looks like impossible amounts of crates and barrels into her tiny wagon.

As she sees you she lets out a sharp cackle. "There you are. I must say I doubted that you had it in you. Hair of the ol' dog, anyone?"

You can buy almost anything that your meagre resources allow you in Warwik with no problem. Since you'll be travelling with the cart you don't really need horses. Greta will provide you with meals if you can only stand her cooking (which is surprisingly good as long as you don't ask what went in it). The trip is only a few days long. And some kind of marching order would be good.

Male Dwarf Rogue 5

Mahaffy's voice booms in the air of this bright morning :
'Hey, Tika, you missed a great fight . Let me tell you the story of Ka'Kara and the dark table ! '
He then begin to scand :
'When Great Ka'kara did stride into the broken drum , she saw she was almost too late . Already , two of her boon comrades, Sweet Roylenna of the green ray and Tika the volubile did lay insensate before the fiend . Moving her mighty sinews , sit she did and said to her adversary 'So, Dark Table, you are now attacking small little girls , do you . Well , here is a real barbarian woman . So let them come and if I do not run you dry before the night is over , I'll reckon you my better !' But the Dark table did not respond save by putting a drink before the barbarian . Long was the struggle ! Beyond count the drinks Ka'Kara did down ! But still the Dark table did continue to produce them and still the girl did drown them ! Daunty Artival did try to help her but had to stop awed before the way Kaka'ra great ... lungs were moving ( Rhianna did take scientific notes for posterity if you are interested ... )
At last , Mighty Ka'Kara did stand and shout 'Treacherous table ! I fought with you honestly and you do not stop moving the drinks so it's getting harder and harder for me to reach and grab them ! Such treachery has to be responded in kind ' And she did headbutt the dark table !'
Mahaffy begins to sing loudly
'Ho Ho HO the dark table is cracked but so is Kaka'ra's Hard Head . Ho ho ho no more drinks at the dark table for us !'

Then he stops and asks Tika
"So you think you'll be able to make a marching song with this ? "

Female Halfling Bard 1

"UUhhh what?" A blearly eyed Tika asks "Please keep it down my head hurts." Tika is currently sitting on the back of the wagon holding her head.

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

Greta interjects: "Some brandy, luv? It's mostly apples..."

When Artival was awoke that morning, he had no idea where he was. All he knew was that his head was hurting. Badly. He finally placed most of the night together, and remembered being hired by a short fellow to guard a wagon. With a bit of embarrassment, when he showed up, he realized Greta was indeed a female. "Hopefully I didn't say anything to her," he thought to himself.

He downed a cup of water and decided to pass on breakfast. "Hey everyone," he croaked.

Female Halfling Sorcerer (celestial)

"Oohh, that is the last time I drink their cider..." Roylenna musters a "Greta, it is so good to see you again." before crawling into the wagon and perching on an already-packed crate.

"Tika, up here before they set a barrel on you."

Male Half-Elf Bladedancer 2

"Here, Greta, let me help you. Those crates look heavy."

Rhianna arrives at the wagon, absentmindedly tossing Jobe into the air for some hunting as she begins looking for a place on the wagon to set her books and notes. As she does so, she notices the pained, red-eyed state of her comrades and frowns. "Conjuctivitis?" she murmurs to herself, then shakes her head. "No, no discharge... Ah yes. Toxic side effects from alcohol in excess. Light sensitivity, noise sensitivity, fatigue, possibly nausea." She leans over to where Tika and Roylenna are leaning painfully against one another and says, "Can you try not to vomit on my notes, please?" Perhaps surprisingly, she has lowered her voice to a non-agonizing level.

As before, Rhianna will likely be "somewhere in the middle" as far as marching order goes.

Due to her walking speed (and condition), Roylenna will ask Greta if she (and Tika) can ride in the wagon.

32/42 HP

Lyria woke up with a terrible headache after yesterday's drinking. Remembering the conversation (very clearly, surprisingly), she tried to get ready as soon as possible (but that was quite slow anyway) and get to the old lady's cart. Apparently, some members of the group already knew the lady, so joining her as an armed escort seemed to be both the easy and the right thing to do, not to mention the reward afterwards. Lyria started walking in order as the entourage left Warwik, not managing to keep herself concentrated on anything in particular, but quite annoyed of the old woman's loud, sharp voice which she kept hearing.

Lyria will walk third in marching order (before the casters).

After spending the night on the bar floor, Ka'kara wakes up washes up and seems even somewhat chipper recounting the nights events to the others. "Greta! When did you get here?" Apparently having little to no recollection of the interaction the night before. She seems to watch Kai closely and warily, keeping some distance between the two of them. She takes Greta up on the brandy right away and takes a swig, "Tika, some of this will wipe that headache right out. You have to fight fire with fire." Nodding sagely as she says this as if it's the best advice in the world.

Tika somehow manages to pull herself up to sit next to Roylenna. "If anyone ever asks this part never happend." She mumbles out

Roylenna opens one eye for just a moment, "You would be the one telling the tale, it only happened if you write it down."

Fortitude save for recovery 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

As the day passes you begin to feel better, and a night at the Roadside Inn does much to restore your spirits. Some of the dirty jokes that Greta tells to pass the time on the road probably help, too.

It's on the second day, as you pass near the forgotten city of Barakus that trouble hits. As you trudge along a voice booms out in hideously broken Common: "Bad beer lady! Now you die!" A foul-tempered hill giant steps out into the middle of the road, some 40 feet ahead of you.

Greta chews her cigar in consternation, muttering under her breath as she sucks in air: "This is not good."

Roll for initiative. And also a perception check.

I think we'll do this fight without a map, as it's pretty straightforward. Let's see how it works out.

Female Halfling Bard 1

Init

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21

Perception

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

"Well he's certainly a big fella."

32/42 HP

Lyria is startled by the Hill Giant's voice, but eventually regains her senses.

Init
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Perception

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Ftr1/Pal1 | LG | AC(19)17/14/16 | HP 18//18 | F+5,R+1,W+0 | Init+ 1 | Smite Evil 1/day

"Not today my large friend. I've a terrible headache!" Artival yells at the giant striding in their direction. The sorceror tended to get in a foul mood when hung over.

Init. 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 and

Intimidate 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

Male Half-Elf Bladedancer 2

Kai silently draws his greatsword and stands in front of the giant.

Initiative 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21

Perception 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

Black Tom:
How do you want me to calculate hit points?

Bad beer ? you will have to explain this but later ...

Initiative 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Perception 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23

Female Human Barbarian 7

"One of your friends Greta?" she says as she lowers the tip of her long-spear.

Seeing as Kai has taken a position at the front of the caravan she is probably toward the rear of the wagon.

Initiative: 1d20 ⇒ 6
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

Roylenna:

Spoiler:
Ka'kara asks you while we are traveling to be watchful of Kai. "Remember what happened with Rana when we first met. I don't want that to happen again."

Female Halfling Sorcerer (celestial)

Initiative 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Perception 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (3) + 0 = 3

Roylenna crawls forward to where Greta is driving, both so she can see the giant and also so she can ask their employer, "Is that the giant I think it is? I didn't expect to see him again..."

Ka'kara:

Spoiler:
"Sister, there was a lot of problems with Rana, you'll have to be more specific." ;-)

Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 5

Female Halfling Bard 1

"Wait you know this guy?"

Female Halfling Sorcerer (celestial)
Tika wrote:
"Wait you know this guy?"

Quietly to Tika, "You might say we have met."

Louder, in Giant:

Spoiler:
"Bad beer lady? How can you say such a thing? She gave you a barrel of her very best! In fact, a lesser grade of product brought top coin when she arrived at her destination! Surely you are aware that if she sold inferior beer to a tavern, she certainly would not be foolish enough to be seen in the same town so soon! What makes you think that her beer was bad?"

The halfling seems to be politely arguing someone's case. She pauses, as though thinking, before going on in Giant:

Spoiler:
"I am sure the beer was not too strong for one such as yourself. No human would be able to palate such a brew. Perhaps you are allergic? She uses unusual ingredients for her best brews -- maybe you have an allergy to one of her more unusual ingredients. Have you seen your shaman about this illness?"

She finishes her argument, looking pretty sure of her conclusion, whatever it was.

Bluff 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

The giant goes on 13, so everyone that beats that can act.

Mahaffy:

Spoiler:
You spot a pair of orcs hiding behind some rocks on either side of the road. They seem to be armed with javelins.

Female Halfling Bard 1

Tika stands on top of the wagon and casts a grease spell under the giants feet

Dc 14 reflex save

32/42 HP

Lyria shouts in common to her friends: "Wait! We can end this peacefully!" while gesturing towards the giant and mumbling a couple of words. Her eyes turn gleaming blue as she tries to charm the giant. His eyes flicker as well while Lyria regains her senses and waits to see the results of her spell.

Charm Person on the giant, Will DC:15.

Better for everyone to delay after me (Init 14, so you still get to go before the giant if the spell fails) if you want this to succeed (if someone is hostile towards the giant while the spell is cast, it gets +5 to its will save) Basically my idea is to charm, then command it to go to some other place and leave us.

Male Dwarf Rogue 5

Charm Person only works on D&D humanoids types not on giants if I remember rightly

Knowing Roylenna , Mahaffy was waiting calmly for her words to have effect . Knowing Roylenna would even try to parley with a great club about to descend on her head , Mahaffy whispers 'orcs behind the rocks near the road. javelins ' and is ready to react .
delay action

Male Half-Elf Bladedancer 2

"You had your chance to turn away. I am sorry" Kai quietly says.

Attack 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27 Damage 2d6 + 8 ⇒ (5, 1) + 8 = 14

Black Tom:
I haven't rolled for hps, so here it goes
2d10 ⇒ (1, 2) = 3

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

As far as I understand it, giants are humanoids in Pathfinder, so it should be susceptible to Charm Person. But will you all delay?

Thanks for the faith, Mahaffy!

So they are, hadn't noticed that change yet. Roylenna's initiative is so low, she doesn't need to delay for Lyria to cast her spell. But if Kai opens up with an attack, will Lyria still attempt to cast her spell?

Because I like initiative lists, here's the action thus far:

Round 1

  • 22 Mahaffy Delays
  • 21+ Tika Casts Grease
  • 21- Kai Attacks
  • 18 Rhianna
  • 14 Lyria Casts Charm Person
  • 13 Hill Giant
  • 11 Artival
  • 06+ Roylenna
  • 06- Ka'kara

Kai, is that an critical threat? I think we are waiting for Rhianna's action, but I might have missed it.

  • Male Half-Elf Bladedancer 2

    [ooc]Thanks. I've missed it. Roll to confirm 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17 [/ooc

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat

    Thanks, Roylenna.

This is what happens. Tika starts by turning the ground under the giant slippery and he topples like a house of cards, leaving Kai an easy target as he charges as he must to reach the giant. Crit confirmed.

The orcs, that have been hidden until now, throw their javelins at Kai in the surprise round but miss, then move in for the kill.

At that same moment the wagon erupts in noxious vapors (forcing everyone on or near the wagon which is everyone except Kai and Ka'kara to make a Fortitude save vs. 15). The fumes block sight also, so you'll need to move out of it to target the giant.

Just as the cloud appears, you discern its source: a goblin on a broom overhead, just turned visible.

If you made your saves, you can act now.

    32/42 HP

    Fort. Save:
    1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

Lyria will move outside the fumes, then wait for Rhianna to post her action. Unless Rhianna does something unusual, she'll target the giant with her charm person.

    Ftr1/Pal1 | LG | AC(19)17/14/16 | HP 18//18 | F+5,R+1,W+0 | Init+ 1 | Smite Evil 1/day

You just love fort saves, don't you, BT? lol

    Fort save. 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17

Artival coughs, but missed the worst part of the noxious fumes. He moves clear of the vapors, and out so that he might be able to see what is happening.

Seeing the witch cackling and riding her broom, he targets her with a electric bolt and fires a ball in her direction.

    Attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

    Damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

    Female Human Barbarian 7

How high up is the goblin witch?

    Female Halfling Bard 1

    Fort save

    1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Tika is suddenly glad she never had breakfast becasue if she had she would be bringing it back up right now.

    Male Dwarf Rogue 5

    Fortitude save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22

Stout Mahaffy does not inhale any vapours , he moves from the zone and targets the goblin with his Heavy Crossbow
    1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 161d10 ⇒ 9

Male Human (mostly) Ex-cleric and Grumpy Cat
    Ka'kara Furyheart wrote:

Out of reach, about 25 feet.

    Yeah, saw that coming...

    Round 1

  • 22 Mahaffy Delays
  • 21+ Tika Casts Grease
  • 21- Kai Attacks Giant
  • 20+ Orcs Attack Kai
  • 20- Goblin Casts on wagon
  • 18 Rhianna
