Canada won more gold medals than any nation in Winter Olympic history. Amazing.
The US won more medals this time around than they ever have before.
Norway struggled initially but came back swinging hard and bolted into the top spots.
Germany often looked indomitable out there.
Congrats to all the nations that competed and my sympathies to all the people who got so busted up. That was a slaughterhouse on the slopes.

Since, I consider Canada to be part of the U.S. anyways I feel as if we won both the gold and the silver medals. I feel completely neutral on the subject.Hurray for us.
I wouldn't consider Canada to be part of the U.S.--more of an accessory.

Does that make Central America our ascot?

Indeed it does.

Things went nuts in my Side of Canada as Sidney scored the OT goal. Local kid wins gold! People were literally in the streets cheering. I'm pleasantly surprised that Canada won so many gold medals but there were only two I really cared about and I'm happy to see that we got both :)
I think the big looser this Olympics was Russia, the host of the 2014 winter Olympics, they had their worst showing ever. It will be interesting to see if they can turn their fortunes around.

I have no doubt they will, being the home team does really give advantages especially with any of the events with judging as the cheering crowds can affect scores (IMO).

You do realize that your "hat" is bigger then you right?
A comedian once said "Canada is bigger and on top, if this was prison America is Canada's b~#$~."
Personally I like to think of the USA as Canada's older surly brother. We got your back in a fight but we're usually trying to talk you down and apologizing for you. We also have a slightly better relationship with dad (England).

Canadians are usually so polite. S'good to see you guys all fired up and swinging. ;)

I am really glad Canada won even though I am American. Sure it would have been great to win the gold, but having Canada win on its own turf was pretty cool. I only hope Russia can shore up its program before 2014 - it sucks to lose on your home ice.
The only thing that bothered me was that all the players on both sides were NHL players. It felt more like an all-star game than a national competition. Perhaps all the game showed was that Canada has more all-stars than the US :)

Funny you say that, some of our local news coverage was actually trying to convince us that we were being 'too aggressive in the pursuit of gold.'
Like, just because we're polite and Canadian we're not even supposed to try and win.

Well if that's how you play politely, I'd hate to see you pissed.
You won in a big way and some Canadian friends told me what it was like there. Everyone out of their seat, especially considering the stakes of that final and the suspenseful way it played out. I heard people went out into the street and played hockey well into the night. Magical atmosphere, by the sound of it.

It really was something else, having never experienced that kind of reaction to athletic patriotism before. I imagine it's something similar in Europe during the World Cup.
Stores and businesses were closing early, pubs were standing room only, and like you said, at least 2 spontaneous hockey games started up on my street.
We were hosting something of a hockey party, and even a few of the drop-ins who weren't typically interested in hockey came out of their seats during the final moment. It was very cool.
As an aside, I hope we can keep the patriotism going on this side of the border - we don't typically get to recognize ourselves on the world stage like that, and it's nice to hear about us as something other than the global community's silent helper.

this. it was one of the most exciting games I've seen, and worked for me as a national contest, absolutely first rate entertainment. - BUT - I am also a bit sad that the olympics isn't really for amateurs anymore. I really want to root for the Jamaican bobsled team, and so on.
I heard that about 3/4 of the canadian population was watching the game, so the marquis event is at the very least working. Too bad we didn't get to see more of the women's series (the final was awesome)...

Ain't that the truth.
Shawn White has his own private snowboarding half-pipe, provided by Burton... granted he's a phenomenal talent, but there is still a significant advantage over someone whose competing just based on time between day jobs.

That goal at 24 seconds left--wow! I figured if we were that dumb, the Americans deserved to have it. But nope, our boys perservered!
You should hear what the Russians are whining about. Russian newspaper Pravda claims our men were taking drugs! Of all things! Not substantiated, either. Pretty sad behaviour coming from the host country for the 2014 games.
