I reached out to the scout who's Eagle Paperwork I took to get approved yesterday. Well, I reached out to him and his mother. Even though he's technically aged out, I still like to apply the rule we follow with regular scouts.
Anyway, I let them know the paperwork had been approved and we were good to go to schedule his Eagle Board of Review. Now all we have to do is find some days he's in town when we also have at least one other adult available to do the Board.

So now I've got some people to reach out to today. He wants to do it Sunday, which MIGHT be problematic. We usually do these things at a nearby LDS church, and that might be heavily in use on a Sunday. The other big question is whether the District Advancement Chair will even be available. Can't do the board without her.

Ugh. The kid is hoping to get his EBOR this Sunday, but the weather is supposed to be super nasty (for our area, anyway). Wet and cold, with possible snow.
The district advancement chair said it's POSSIBLE, depending on that weather. Personally, I'd hate to make other people drive in that sort of thing. I know how to do it, but they might not be so fortunate as to have lived in a frozen hellhole upon a time.

Alrighty! It looks like we're cooking with some gas, but just maybe not a whole lot of it. Right now we've got a "tentative" board of review scheduled for Sunday at 2 pm. We'll keep an eye on the weather and make a decision by this Sunday morning.
Luckily, the scout has time to get this done. So if we have to cancel this Sunday, we can reschedule for another day.

One of the biggest complaints I always hear about the DC Snyderverse was that it was too dark overall (which I tend to agree). It doesn't help that he apparently recently unveiled story boards for his aborted second Justice League movie. It would have had Darkseid take control of Superman, who would then kill Lex Luthor.
So although I liked some aspects of the Snyderverse (especially Ben Afleck as Batman), I'm glad it met its end. Now if only The Universe would be kind enough to see to the end of the GCU...

I was happy to see that WBD is doing this re-release of the LotR trilogy in theaters (Extended edition last weekend, standard editions this coming weekend). I've heard the showings this past weekend brought in $11 million. Impressive, but not surprising.
What also doesn't surprise me is the stupidity of WBD. If you're celebrating the anniversary of Fellowship, you do a bigger release than the trilogy on two weekends. You release Fellowship nation wide, in multiple theaters, for at least a few weeks. Maybe even a month or two. And you release it closer to the actual anniversary.
You could still have the special trilogy showing for two weekends, but if you do a bigger re-release I'd bet good money you'd earn even better money.

A lot of folk around here are freaking out over the impending severe (for this location) winter weather we're supposed to get over the weekend. Understandable. It's the kind of weather we only get maybe once a year, so our infrastructure isn't really planned around it.
My only concern will be if I have to go somewhere. Then I have to deal with all the people who don't know how to drive in such weather.

Now that I'm home from my doctor appointment, I don't have much else planned for today. I'm considering heading over to the grocery store a bit later. I need to get stuff for dinner tonight, and might as well stock up on a few items for this weekend's nasty weather. Even though I still plan to hit the store on my usual Saturday run as well.
I might also stop and fill my truck's tank up. I got gas not too long ago, but used up about half a tank when I brought that scout's paperwork down to the council headquarters on Tuesday.

Speaking of....
Now the scout is texting me about the possibility of moving his Eagle Board of Review to Saturday instead of Sunday. I'm considering just telling him that people are unavailable that day, but if the weather is too bad on Sunday we'll just reschedule for another time.
It's not like he has to get it done right away. He's got at least another year, maybe longer.

More proof (for me) that Gunn was the absolute wrong person to run any kind of cinematic universe: Apparently he's tapped the writer of The Flash and Birds of Prey movies to write his GCU Batman movie. Seriously? Two horrifically awful and failed movies, and you're giving that writer a chance at the script for a movie with (arguably) the most popular superhero of all time? Talk about f#@%ing stupid.
Ah well, at least I have the second Matt Reeves Batman movie look forward to. I'd bet good money it's more successful than anything Gunn vomits out. Which is probably why it appears Gunn has been trying to delay it. Jealousy.

Since I was going to the grocery store to get dinner stuff for tonight and a few items to cover for the weekend's frozen wasteland frivolities, the wife suggested I might as well do all the regular grocery shopping. It was a good idea, so now we should be covered through at least next Tuesday for major meals.
The store was a zoo though. Lots of people panic buying. I saw folks with several packs of bottled water each. The stick pretzels were gone (must be a favored of people trapped in their homes at winter). The bread aisle was pretty grim. And people weren't even waiting for the meats and chickens to be put out. They were just grabbing stuff of the rolling stock carts.
Still, most folk were polite enough. No yelling or arguing that I could see.

I’ve been watching the Stargate SG-1 TV series. While it’s enjoyable, and pretty cool expansion of the original movie, there are aspects of it that bug me. Mostly it’s the complete lack of knowledge of actual military tactics of the writers. At least that’s my impression. Also, some aspects of how the government works. And just the stupid things people sometimes do. Then again, this Hollywood we’re dealing with.

It's funny, though. The scout troop trip to the USS LEXINGTON came about because the scouts didn't want a repeat of last year. That was a January campout with temperatures well below freezing. They had fun, I think, but preferred to avoid it this year.
And yet the weather for their trip to Corpus Christi was actually rather pleasant, if a bit cool with the wind. Nothing like last year, which weather pattern will actually be repeated this coming weekend.
