No, if that was the case he would say, 'I wanna be different, just like all my friends.'

And that third chocie, we used to call the 'slackers' back in the day. I dunno what the new moniker is. Usually hung out in the smoking area (yes, I am old enough that you could get a signed slip from your parents you could smoke in a special area on high school property).

Hi Patrick. Yeah, my health is much better. I due for the 1st anniversery check-up of the BMT in a couple of weeks and all signs are good.

And I remember the smoking area. I wasn't cool enough to hang there- this was before slackers. I played D&D in the Chem lab with the nerds.

Good to hear you're doing well Niel.

I was playing D&D in the Library. We were uncool enough to do it out in the open! ;)

Good to hear it man! A spot is open in the two PbPs if you ever feel the urge to return Greep and Billy Ray...

My friend started an after-school D&D club at our high school (I was too mortified to join, it was really cheezy, half LARP half D&D). Oh man, you should have seen what the Yearbook folks wrote about it when they were doing the caption under their picture in the Extracuricular section ... owwww

*sigh* OK, time to go to work. Although I'm going to get an early mark today. I was supposed to be doing a computer install this afternoon, so I organised to finish work early so I could make it. They contacted me and asked if I could do it on Friday instead, so I said yes and am just going to finish work early and "say" I still have to do the job today. :D

Wait...what?!?! What was the smoking age?

I am old enough that I used to walk down to the corner store to buy cigarettes for my parents with a note, but I've never heard of being able to smoke in high school with your parent's permission. On an airplane? Of course! In the delivery room? Sure, why not! At high school? Only in the teacher's lounge.

I swear that all my teachers smoked.

We're watching Sanctuary right now. Not sure if I like it yet but heard the best line on it I've heard in a while...

I dunno, but I guess it was the '18 or with parental consent' thing back then. All I know is that it was a real popular place for the flannel shirt, ripped jeans, and Doc Martens-wearing crowd (this was before grunge)

RPG Superstar 2012

I liked Dresden Files. It was uneven, but it was finding its "voice". Too bad it got the ax.

We had a courtyard at the high school for smoking. Once you had filed a note from your parents, you had access. I graduated in '81 and, as far as I know, it was still there until the place was renovated in the early 90s. Of course, I'm from Mathews Couty, Va, so we're not talking 'bout cityfolk.

RPG Superstar 2012

I would be old enough to remember "smoking areas" at school, but I never paid attention to how to get permission.

Well, it was in place for Wayland Massachusetts until at least the start of the Nineties there. It wasn't big city, but it was Lefty Liberal Land. Most of the adults in town were high-powered execs in Boston with the swank suburban digs.

But then there was Wayland's little village of Cochituate, which had the remanants of an Irish-Catholic population from an old shoe factory from the Industrial Revolution. They formed the core of the 'slacker' crowd. Me, I was just a nerd with teacher parents who lived there. I played D&D, LOL, and didn't smoke 'till I took up binge drinking in college...

So all of that graphic work I was doing the other day is finished.

Thought I would post it here on the off chance people might be interested.

I am still debating if I should promote the maps like I do the other articles.

AB that's a sweet map. I love cartography, and this is a nice example!

However they are not the books and a lot of people were put off because of this. Don't be they actually add some neat twists on event from the books.

I remember having a hallway that was set up with a tarp covering the entrance, thats where everyone went to smoke during breaks between classes. That and the entrance on the other end of the hallway.

Boo, I can't watch at work. :(

My comment about boredom isn't directed at FAWTL, just to make things clear. It's directed at the lack of engaging things here at work.

Awright folks! It's time for me to punch out and head out into the world. I've got to drop another payment on the bike, do some banking, pick up Infinite Space for DS and enjoy the sale at my FCBS for NEW COMIC BOOK DAY!!! SO long for now!
