Eidolon as mount

Advanced Player's Guide Playtest: Final Playtest

A quadrupped eidolon could be a suitable mount for a small creature and the same eidolon but with the large evolution would become suitable for a medium.

But what about saddles?

An eidolon is incapable of wearing any kind of armor/barding and I expect vestments and the likes are a no go for the same reasons. But is it possible to strap a saddle onto an eidolon? And if not, can you just ride them bareback?

Well i've seen other threads that discussed mounting your eidolon in "other ways" so i don't see riding them in a more conventional manner would be an issue.

You can choose your eidelon's form in it's entirety. Just make it's form have a saddle (military, riding, whatever) and ride it. The saddle wouldn't be removeable, even though it looked like it would be, it's part of the Eidelon.

If you want it to have barding, buy the 'improved natural armor' evolution and define it as 'plate barding'.

My own DM said that having a saddle "grow" rfom my Eidolon's back was bending the rules too hard. But you can pay extra for a saddle for an unusually shaped creature and ride off into the sunset.

Saddles aren't armor.
Blankets aren't either, for that matter.

I would allow an Eidolon to wear a saddle, and i'd also allow it to wear a Howdah or packsaddle set or whatever.

Or if your Dm doesn't allow that then just ride your critter bareback. Saddles just make it easier to ride but they aren't a necessary contraption.

That's how I would rule it. Makes sense.

Huh... So you can use the riding feats to prevent damage to your eidolon with ride checks?

Now all you need is an eidolon with pounce and a cavalier in the party for some charging fun...

Or dual class into Cavalier... Though that doesn't really work as it adds to your druid level for animal companion purposes...
