Okay, so this is the wrong forum for this question, but there doesn't seem to BE a forum for it. So I ask here. ;)
I was thinking tonight, "Y'know, I really like this company. They have a good product line, excellent customer service skills, and they are passionate about their industry. Might be worth buying some stock - let's check the financial statements." Didn't take me long to find that Paizo isn't publicly traded. Which made me wonder... who owns Paizo? Who is Lisa's boss?
By the way, I'm probably moving to the greater Seattle area after I get my degree. I don't suppose Paizo needs a Finance major, with an Economics concentration? (I'm kidding, of course - not that working for Paizo would be a bad thing, but I do realize that a messageboard post isn't a substitute for a proper application and a resume.)

While one can't buy actual stock in Paizo, I like to think that contributing time to the community is a good substitute investment. You probably won't see any financial gains by doing so, but the more active and involved players and GMs are in growing Pathfinder, Planet Stories, RPG Superstar, Pathfinder Society, GameMastery, etc. the more value the company (and the game you love) has. You get to cash in your "stock" every time you play the game.

yoda, well said.

I am happy that paizo is not publicly traded - no mad race to push the shareholder value, which is sometimes all that matters to those companies that are publicly traded. I consider this a very shortsighted business model (and I think this is partially confirmed in the latest financial crisis - with the banks only ever eyeing their stock market value). Building a sound, durable economy does not work that way IMO.

It's more like the good work that Paizo do has bought stock in the community and resulted in pizza dividends :)

Stebehil - I respectfully disagree. The very best companies to invest in, imho, are the ones who push their stock up by doing, well, exactly what Paizo is doing. Being an awesome company, providing a great product and establishing a loyal customer base. And not borrowing heavily to finance operations, which is what really killed the banks, but the economy's a topic best left to another thread. Suffice it to say that I don't invest in companies that have long term debt more than roughly four times as much as their net profits, and no more short term debt than long term.
Actually, learning about Paizo's size makes me like it even more. I have always had a great deal of respect for small businesses, especially those that compete with larger corporate giants. It's a whole David and Goliath thing.
Lisa, Vic, keep up the good work!

We are really trying to run a company that we can all be proud of and it is threads like this which tell us that we are on the right track!
-Lisa
And the right track is
... getting rich beyond your wildest dreams?
...make "The Paizo Story" a blockbuster film with Brangelina as Lisa and Vic?
... finally succeed in summoning Cthulhu and make him write an entire Pathfinder AP?

Lisa is Lisa's Boss...
Yep, and from what I've been hearing from Lisa, Lisa is a mean boss that makes Lisa work ridiculous hours and do all sorts of ridiculous things for the customer. I even heard that Lisa laughed in Lisa's face when she asked for a promotion.
But don't tell anyone I told you that, since Lisa's rightfully terrified of Lisa, and I'd hate to see Lisa take a bunch of crap from Lisa because of something I said on the messageboards.

We appreciate all the praise for Paizo. We are really trying to run a company that we can all be proud of and it is threads like this which tell us that we are on the right track!
I think you guys have been on the right track for years.
In fact, my take on the situation has been that the superb quality of the Dragon is what turned D&D around - in my opinion the whole D&D line was kind of on a slow slide down before the advent of Paizo.
On first hearing about WoTC taking back the license for the magazines, I figured that they were going to try to bring the cash cow back in house - before Paizo took it over, I believe that the magazines weren't viable. There was an article about the economics of the Dragon, years ago, but darned if I can remember where.

Don't like the goatboy look huh? Ok. :)
Who to cast as James and Eric though?
Some how I think only SKR would have to play himself.
