Alahazra's Disappearing Scourges

Rules Questions and Gameplay Discussion

So the Recursor role for Alahazra in Mummy's Mask has the power:

"You may evade a bane you encounter. If you do, suffer a scourge."

What happens to her in Adventure Paths that don't have scourges? Does she just get a free bane evade?

Sure seems like it, as per the "ignore impossible instructions" rule.

Hum...
If you take Balazar from an adventure box to play it in another AP, you take the eidolon card with him in order to be able toi use the powers on his card character card no?

So why wouldn't you do the same for Alahazra?
Nowhere is written that you get to chose to apply powers that you like and not the ones that you don't.
If you get the MM Alahazra character, it implies somehow that you get the box (at least virtualy), so why wouldn't you play the scourge?
Especially as she has another power to get rid of it!

This doesn't sound very feasible logistically. After all, in other sets, we may have to play a crippled Corruptor Seoni, or a Ranzak without ships and plunder. It just so happens that with Alahazra the dice fall in our favor.

(Maybe it would be nice to have some general ruling from Lone Shark, that concerns importing characters from other sets, but I don't know that it's needed or preferred to home-ruling, let alone feasible.)

I also think you just wouldn't take a scourge. And whether you like not taking a scourge or not is a toss up. The Recursor role wants you to get cards with the Curse trait in your hand. Suffering a scourge which Alahazra can easily remove is a great way to get a Curse into her hand. So the scourge is really as much a help as it is a hindrance. While there are other curses besides Scourges, the other sets released so far wouldn't have Curses consistently enough to make Recursor seem very appealing.

Home ruling isn't feasible; PFSACG is a thing.

It just so happens both of MM Alahazra's rules concern stuff specific to MM (Recursor with Curses, Seeker with Triggers). Still that base 1d8 extra on Fire Attack spells is very appealing especially in PFSACG because the Oracle deck has a bunch of Fire Attack spells in it.

Hence why I'm playing her in one of my OP groups. :D

The scourge die is provided by the adventure card (1d4, 1d6+1, etc.), so in another adventure path, she wouldn't be able to get scourges. MM Rulebook Page 22: "If a card tells you to suffer a scourge without naming a specific card, check the adventure card to find out what the adventure’s scourge die is, roll that die on the scourge table, draw the corresponding scourge from the box, and display it next to your character deck."

(holy crap I just quoted the rulebook)

So, yes, she turns into Merisiel. With a d4 Dexterity. :D

All the more evidence that Alahazra is the best character ever.

We don't need any special rules here. Yes, the "impossible rule" makes one power better in sets without scourges, but that's balanced by the weakening of other powers in those sets. If you think that tradeoff is worthwhile, have fun.
