Melee(ish) Druid

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

The characters starting level will be 3 using the stat array of 15,14,13,12,10,8 starting gold of a level 3, only half gold can go to item creation feats (if i take them) and no more than half gold can go to 1 item.

That is the info the dm has given me to make a character. Currently I believe there will be a cleric and a rogue in the group. So he will fufill the melee fighter role. I have read some threads of a druid/barb or druid/fighter, basically i'm try to fill the frontline role but versatility would be nice. Using animal companion, summons, and maybe leadership to get the numbers needed in this 3 man group.

what about playing a sommoner? he has the eidolon and other summons ... he isn't that great a fighter, but the eidolon can fill that roll as good as a bard or druid for sure

Treantmonk's guide to melee druids

This is pretty much what you're looking for.

Shadow Lodge

I suggest the raptor/deinonychus or the cat(large) for you animal companion, though the wolf's tripping bite can make fights easier.
Flame blade is a nice weapon-spell, and entangle can stop foes from moving so they can be picked of with ranged weapons. Don't forget that magig fang gives your animal companion a bonus to hit and damage.

Liberty's Edge

Yeah, Treantmonk's guides are where you want to go.

For your animal companion, you want something that can fight good right beside you, so a raptor or tiger is the way to go.

A wolf is an excellent companion for a caster druid, as it provides additional control abilities, but a melee druid wants to bite and claw its way to victory, not prevent the enemy from winning.

I have had great fighting capacity playing a monk druid who spends all his time as a large earth elemental, but means you need to think a little longer term that straight up. Otherwise as the others said Treantmonk is your best reference.
