Does anyone else find it weird that the summoner gets a polymorph effect as his capstone ability? Wouldn't a better representation of the bond between a 20th-level summoner and his eidolon be the ability to summon the eidolon more than once per day? Or granting the eidolon and other summons immunity to banish and dismissal spells? Or pretty much anything else that involves summoning instead of changing shape?

The druid get a polymorph effect. So does Dragon Disciple. The Summoner capstone is nice, well thought out, and enjoyable as a last-ditch effort in a battle. But that's my opinion.

I'm not saying twin eidolon it necessarily a bad ability. It doesn't appear to be broken and it certainly has its uses. But shouldn't a class called "the summoner" be working towards a capstone ability that actually involves summoning something? Or at least a capstone that keeps his summons from being sent away?

Think of it as summoning a totally kick-@$$ suit of armor then.

I have no problem with the alternates you suggest,
but I don't think we should get caught up with the specific class name and magic school classifications.
The entire Eidolon is clearly on a very different paradigm than normal "Summoning" spells.
The capstone COULD actually be seen as summoning the eidolon a 2nd time: summoning it into your own form.
