On the bestiary products discussion, I see a few people asking if certain missing fave monsters didn't make the cut because they're not SRD.
The above link is to a d20srd page; anything on there is, near as I can tell, an SRD critter. Won't find mindflayers or yuan ti, but you'll find nightcrawlers and hippogriffs.

Now we just need to find a way to keep this thread bumped so that anyone that hasn't been hanging around discussing monsters for the last year or so can still see the thread.
Know what I think its interesting?
Carrion Crawlers aren't OGL, but Slime Crawlers, which are their young, are . . . kind of like that whole Neothelid thing.
Plus there are Slaad Lords but no Slaad, but that just leads to confusion.
And of course Eyes of the Deep without Beholders.

Bah, I'll have to sleep soon, or my Star Wars game tomorrow will be plagued by the kind of session I run on a lack of sleep. Last time that happened the Wookiee decided to become a Jedi and they found a blind Kushiban to train him.
Speaking of that, did you know that the Tarentatek from Knights of the Old Republic was based on the Umber Hulk model in the Aurora Engine that was used for both KOTOR and Neverwinter Nights?

So we're never going to have a Pathfinder version of Mind Flayers, Beholders, Yuan-Tis, Slaadi and so on? I was really looking forward to see them and was just wondering why didn't they were in the bestiary.
Can't something like a free web-enhancement be done? Or are copyrights absolute and not just profit-related?

Besides it being illegal to do so, its also about respecting property rights. How would you like it if you painted a great picture, and made a decent living off of selling copies of that picture, because that's how you are able to afford your groceries. Then, someone else comes along and starts making copies of your art, diluting the market and reducing demand for your version. Hell they are giving away the new version so how will you continue to sell your version? Methinks you'd be pretty ticked. So, beyond just being illegal, its also wrong.

Not unless you make your own.

Absolute. You may not use that stuff.
Note: you could make critters that are similar to the Forbidden Monsters, monsters that have similar role. You just cannot use the names (unless it's something that is too general for them to really lock), and cannot copy the critters.

On the other hand, a really, really great part (both in size and in greatness) of human works are derivative.
Imagine the guy who came up with the steering wheel kept it to himself.
Or the wheel in general.
And we're not talking about some poor, poor artist who paints one picture, never does something else, and has his picture copied and given away by someone who wants him killed.
We talk about a company that uses a few aspects of a game someone else (who hasn't been with this company, and who has recently died) created. Not the whole game, just a few aspects.
