Ok Paizo board members,

Now that the bestiary is out, I am beginning serious work on monsters. I finished up a piece of artwork yesterday, but I'm not exactly sure what to name it. Submit your name ideas as a reply to this thread or as a comment on my site and if I choose your idea, you will win a free copy of Book of the Faithful I: The Power of Prayer, due out in November.

Good luck and happy gaming.

Nicholas Cage.

...sorry.

RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

Avowed Reaver.

Or to be more precise a fire-avowed reaver but that really doesn't 'sound' all that cool.

Death's-Head.

Infernal Skull

Sovereign Court

Moordenaar

Dutch for "Slayer"

concept that came to mind when I first saw it was an undead creation that feeds upon other undead, specifically vampires. Too few critters that feed upon other critters ...

There was a monster looking the same, i think called Flameskull in 2nd edition.
I don't know if it was converted into 3rd edition.
I'm going to look for it in my stuff...

I found it :
Flameskull

AD&D 2nd Edition : Monster Compendium Annual I, page 50.

D&D 3rd edition : Lost Empires of Faerun, p171.

Well that definitely means it cannot be called Flameskull. Neither of those are OGL.

Scarab Sages

Boazum (Herald of the Apocalypse)

Primitive cultures identified four distinct omens that would predict an apocalypse, calling them horsemen. In truth, the horsemen are but aspects of one entity: the Boazum.

I dunno, I just got a "herald of death" vibe from that pic, and that's where it lead me.

Avenging Inferno. Okay, I enjoy alliteration. ;-)
An undead spirit that may spring from the pyre when someone is callously allowed to burn to death with no attempt to aid them, seeking incendiary vengeance on those who allowed its death.

Pyrocephalus

Liberty's Edge

The Immolator.

Gregg. Call it Gregg.

The Exchange RPG Superstar 2009 Top 8

Remnant.

Sovereign Court

So I have no idea why, and it has no definition that I'm aware of, but for some wierd unexplainable reason the second I saw the link my mind popped up the word Ironi ear-o-nee

You win an honorable mention. Have a cookie.

Please keep the ideas coming. I'll make a decision on Oct 31st-ish. Until then, all entries will be considered.

Dark Archive

I'd call it "Flaming Baldie" in honor of SKR. :P

Dark Archive

Alright, seriously, the obvious names to me (if you don't mind the rather obvious comparison to 'Flameskull') would be Burnskull or Fireskull. Other similar names that come to mind are Boneblaze, Grimskull, Skullwrath and Direbones (although such monsters may already exist; I know that there is at least a FR monster called 'Blazing Bones'). A "funny" name could be Bonefire (qv. bonfire).

That's all I can come up quickly with...

Boner. hhehhe

Sovereign Court

The Vampfyre !

Sovereign Court

flaming boner

just imagine the main BBEG screaming out "Back off heroes or I'll unleash my flaming boner"

Well, Vampyre is actually a 2E FR monster (a fire-wielding vampire spellcaster/variant, if I recall correctly).

Sovereign Court

I still can't figure out why ironi popped into my head when I looked at it lol.

So ironic

So ironic

nice on the joke there, but if you'll notice, I gave pronunciation that seperates it.

also how is that the opposite of my intentions, he asked for a name I gave him the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the monster, not seeing the irony?

It was mostly just a play on words my friend, but if you dig deep enough you can say it was Ironic that most of the word ironic popped into your head as the name.

Yeah, it's a stretch and wasn't the intent lol.

Ditto, heh.

Liberty's Edge

The impression I got from the art was Wrath.

Thus Pyrowrath

And the play on words+undead made it evolved to Pyrowraith

I like the concept, but sounds weird in saying it, how about just Pyraith?

RPG Superstar 2010 Top 16

Implemented with PyGame?

Scarab Sages

from nosferatu we get Nos-fire-atu.

and from there
Fyratu or Pyratu

Jon Brazer Enterprises

I gotta admit. There are alot of good names in this thread so far. Please keep them coming; make my job hard.

The Exchange RPG Superstar 2009 Top 8

Some of Hekate's names are interesting:
Pyrphoros (Fire-bearing),
Pyripnon (Fire-breather),
Daidoukhos (Torch-bearer)
Phosphoros (Light-bearer).

I like Pyripnon and Pyrphoros best.

Brimstone Thrall
Pyretongue Immolator
Pyrehaunt Revenant

Flamberge
Pyre-Bone
Sati (depending on creature origins and ecology...)

Scarab Sages

Maybe you should pick the five or six you like best and see what people vote for. Make it a contest.

Hmmm... Liking this idea. ... *scribbles down note to self*

Flame Skulker
Burning Heretic
Infernal Gnaw
Searing Skull

Liberty's Edge

I forgot in my previous post to list the Pyre-xxx variations.

- Pyre Wrath

- Pyre Wraith

Probably easier to pronounce than the Pyro-xxx ones.

RPG Superstar 2013 Top 16

Secondary submission: Pyreborne
