It's true! Several of us here at Paizo are trying to figure out if we can spare a day off work to head down to see the play, in fact...

If you do, take videos of the play and post them!

Sovereign Court RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32, 2010 Top 8

I remember hearing about that, good to see its going forward.

Next they'll do the Six Trials of Larazod ;-)

That's an unexpected use of the OGL, but an awesome one none-the-less. I hope we get to see this on Youtube!

Our storylines aren't available as Open Game Content, or even under the Community Use Policy. We granted him special permission to adapt Burnt Offerings for this.

Which makes you fantastic people.

I would love to see this, and my players too as we started Burnt Offerings (again) last night.....Pitty it's not even in the same country we are!

I asked this at ENWrold but will aks it here too - any chance of seeing the script when the play is done?

It would make a great free PDF from Paizo! :)

Again for portland for the win

Scarab Sages

I am honored at the interest in the play.

We are in rehearsal with a cast of 24 humans, 8 goblins, 6 elves, a gnome, a halfling, a demon and a fire leopard.

Again, I wish to repeat the sentiment expressed here. Paizo is the most amazing community the gaming world has to offer. It makes me a little verklempt thinking about all the hard work they do for all of us, for love of the game.

Having gamed the Rise of the Runelords, Crimson throne and preparing for the Council of thieves, it is CRYSTAL clear that the writers at Paizo have a mastery of story-telling, a dedication to gaming and the true spirit of community. Community not just for the sake of making a few bucks (though isn't that the dream of all of us) but because they recognize something important in this game.

My school is Portland's Arts magnet school. We were started by a group of parents only 14 years ago. These were parents who wanted the artistically-oriented kids of Portland to have the option of expressing themselves in a focused, arts-disciplined environment. Frankly, we have had some great successes and a few frustrations, but we continue to grow and take leadership in the arts and in education.

For the last couple of years we have had a group of young boys and girls who have seemed to operate in isolation, not quite connecting. This is the same group of skaters/video-gamers/"ne'er do wells that I was a part of 30 years ago (Crap! 30 years????). So I decided to use my art form (I've been a theater artist for almost those same 30 years) to give them a taste of DnD, the game the made such a difference to me. I wish you all could see these these kids. Involved, swinging swords, trying to figure out how to pronounce Elven, Goblin and Danish (Gnomish). They are reading every bit of background I can give them, working on costume designs, fight and dance choreography, Ameiko is fervently practicing her guitar. And best of all, many of them are starting to pick up Pathfinder books and connect Paizo to the world of the game.

The main party is drawn from town:

Finn, A young errand boy for the Rusty Dragon
Ameiko Kaijitsu, Owner of the Rusty Dragon
Milosh Hemlock, Son of Sheriff Belor Hemlock
Shalelu Andosana, Elven bounty hunter.
Abstalar Zantus, Priest of Desna
Veznutt Parooh, Gnomish wizard, owner of the Way North

Milosh and Finn are the only original additions. They are the focus of the Hero's Journey arc of the play. Milosh to fighter, Finn to Wizard.

Come see us. Support us if you can. And please keep supporting the folks at Paizo.

I am not sure about how Mr. Jacobs and the Paizo staff wish to deal with this. I imagine there is a OGL issue in there somewhere.

That said, it would do my heart good if High Schools across the nation started producing this play. Though I am a middle school teacher, I have written it to be done fairly easily on a High School budget with a High School cast.

Any possibility of having the play filmed and posted somewhere?

We will probably film it. The problem is that stage NEVER translates well onto film. So it will look 10% of what it is live.

I thought about taking a day and trying to make some amateur video out of the play. But it is time consuming and, let's face it, the kids have other things to do at school. As much as I would love for them to do theater 24/7, there is music, math, writing, dance, visual arts, reading, science and social studies to do.....

I will make whatever is available to Paizo. BTW, my set is inspired by Wayne Reynold's (with permission, he is so cool) iconic goblin town painting.

As an amatuer actor with a few plays under my belt (including this halloween) I have seen dvd copies of my plays and I have to say they really are 10% of the awesome they are live. But still I would love to see this.

I would love to see it, even at 10% of the actual live event. In part for enjoyment, part inspiration, part demonstrating to some local schools what is possible with RPGs. That is just off the top of my head.

*looks around nervously*
In part to be able to show my significant other that there is some artistic value to RPGs (well, what she would consider artistic value).
*looks around again, wipes forehead nervously, but seems to have gotten away with it*

Heh heh, My wife is making a cameo with my 4 year old as the Barett family. The 11 year old is playing Gresgurt and getting literally kicked in the cajones (staged) by my 4 year old.

Ahhhh, family fun.

I removed the reference to Dungeons and Dragons and the new image is here: http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/8604/burntofferings647647221.jpg

And, btw, I want to commend you for the great job you're doing with the kids you have in your school and I want to implore you to videotape and post the play. No matter what, I think we would all love to see today's youth having fun with Pathfinder. After all, that's supposed to be what gaming is all about. :)

No doubt.

Today we did the fight choreography for a Zombie fight at Pauper's graves on the way to Thistletop. It is a campfire scene used for some exposition at the top of Act 2. Veznutt and Shalelu give some information on the Thassilonians, the local geography and some plot information as to why our villain is being so..... villainous.

The zombie attack never appears in BO, but Zombies are cheap to costume, fun to make up, easy to choreograph in a fight and kids love them (thank you Michael Jackson). And what newbie to the game can resist Zombies....

This is simply a wonderful, incredible thing happening. I found it via a Story-Games post, so kudos to the kids, to the organizers, to Paizo for all making this happen.

Wish this WIN had happened back in my HS days.

So awesome

Paizo staff,

I'm a friend and fellow gamer of Fat Joska that will be (potentially) selling your merchandice before and after the play.

I need to know a few things...

Can you set me up to sell your merchandice?

What day will you all be down there so that I can spread the word.

Keep me posted. Thanks,

You'll probably want to contact Jeff Alvarez here to find out about selling Paizo products.

As for Paizo folks coming down there... we haven't really had a chance yet to figure out the logistics of the trip, so for now I can't say, alas.

Wow, this needs to be the main event at the next PaizoCon 2010. I would pay 35 bucks today to see it. Also, I think it would be fair if you and someone else from Paizo attended, James. This is a great thing that shouldn't be missed under any circumstance.

Too bad print copies of Burnt Offerings aren't still available. They would be perfect "programs" or take-home souvenirs.

And James, how many times will you have the chance to see an adventure you wrote be performed on stage? (Maybe quite a few, actually.) In any case, you shouldn't miss this, if only so the kids can see that the original author came to see their show. How cool is that?

<You need to play up that this isn't just any old performance, but the FIRST EVER OF ITS KIND of such a work by Paizo, and that it would be practically criminal if someone from the company, if not the author, weren't there to acknowledge/support the event. Although that said, if Lisa were to raid the piggy bank and maybe pay for the school to come up to Paizo to give a private performance to Paizo (at Christmas maybe?) that might be a pretty good way for Paizo to tip their hats too.>

Uh, of course since I'm not actually buying Council of Thieves at present, it doesn't make much odds to me if the schedule for release of Council of Thieves installments falls back due to lost working days... ;)

I completely concur. The Paizo Community Oregon residents should swing by too.

That would be totally awesome if I could swing it - alas finances being what they are, it's not likely. :(

Thank you all for your support in getting the word out. Don't tell my wife, but I've already spent over a grand and half of my my own money on weaponry, paint, leather and weird props. It would be great to fill those seats.

More important, I think we need to establish an alehouse for all of us to meet at post show. My favorite themed pub in town is a traditional English pub called the Horse Brass. There is also a pretty good Irish pub called the County Cork. The Lucky Lab is a Portland institution. None of those are particularly close to the school though. Perhaps the Lucky Inn.... Regardless, once we settle on a place, at least we will all now where to meet up, laugh and tell stories.

See! SEE! 1000 more reasons to go!

I'm another of Fat Jozka's gaming buddies and an amateur professional photographer... I'll be heading over to the school this afternoon to get some shots of the actors in costume. I'm pretty excited! This is pretty fun.

I'm going to be trying to figure out how to get this videotaped (and videotaped well). Anyone have a RED ONE camera they want to loan out? (Ha ha, I wish.) It costs like $600 to rent for a single day. Ugh.

Um, quick question? Are they one of those pubs that allow minors and just don't serve alcohol to them? Because alot of taverns/pubs just flat refuse minors, I'm 20, and I plan to be there :(

The Lucky Lab is the best bet. All ages. Portland microbrews, pub faire, outside seating, big tables.

They also are very supportive of the board game crowd. So it would be great to show them some love.

CleverNickName here, from EnWorld. I agree, Lucky Lab is a great place for us to meet up. Has anyone agreed on a day/time for meeting up as a group? I'm leaning toward opening night, but the voting is sort of split over on the EnWorld thread.
