Trailer out now.

I think this looks really good. A fun action packed fantasy movie, makes me want to hunt down the old stories by Robert E Howard to read up on the character.

Indeed

This looks pretty damn sweet. I loved the REH stories, read them recently when they put out an omnibus trade reprint. Solomon Kane's actor did Marc Antony in Rome as well? Double sweet! Any idea when this drops in theaters?

Scarab Sages

Looks pretty cool. I always love to see REH's work brought to the big screen, even if they don't always get it right.

Liberty's Edge

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET.

Whoa, Nelly.

I'm ready for this one.

Hot damn! That looks really good...

Oh, man that's awesome. Solomon Kane is probably my second favorite REH character. I can't wait! :-D

It certainly seems to be as good as you say.

Here's hoping they do even better!

Wow. this does look pretty good!!!

(except for one pet peeve - why do action movies always refer to "the girl" - doesn't the hero know her name when he asks where she is?)

Liberty's Edge

Heh... I just bought a copy of the graphic novel version of "The Castle of the Devil" a few days ago.

Liberty's Edge

No set release date for it yet, although it will be playing at Fantastic Fest in Austin next week, so I'll be trying to see it then.

Wow. I knew they were shooting it, and that James Purefoy had the lead, but had not idea what to expect. I just hope the final movie lives up to the trailer.

Frog God Games

W00T! I loves me some Solomon Kane!

Just got this off Amazon myself!

I just picked up the onmnibus. It has all the Savage Sword appearances. I also think Solomon Kane is REH's best character.

SWEEEEEEEET

I SO say they totally stole the Hat from Kane for the Jackman "Van Helsing" flick.

This looks totally B@D@$$!!!!!

I am very gleefull/hopefull for how this "subgenre" of Gothic Pulp has been developing (Constantine, Hellboy 1 & 2, now Solomon Kane).

Now if only they could resurrect/revive the Elric Movie from preproduction hell and do it right ...

Meanwhile, Long Live Solomon Kane!!!

"I am not yet Ready for Hell ...".

Liberty's Edge

Saw this tonight, with the director (Michael Bassett) doing a Q&A afterwards. A few thoughts:
It is not an adaptation of a Howard tale, rather it is a origin story using elements hinted at in other stories. The producers of the film wanted an origin story as they didn't feel that jumping right into one of Howard's stories would help with mass acceptance.
Although the Solomon Kane in the movie isn't entirely the Solomon Kane of the stories, by the end of the movie, the character's arc is such that he could roll right into any of Howard's stories and transition well. If given the opportunity, the director would like to do one of the stories set in Africa, particularly so he can give Kane his JuJu stick.
The movie is played pretty straight, with absolutely no camp. Without the supernatural elements in the movie, it would play like a historical picture.
Acting was good across the board, although there were a few places were the script went a little cliche.
Effects were generally good with the exception of the big bit of CGI at the end, which was pretty crappy.
Fights were well staged with only one that had a lot of quick cuts that masked the action.

Nice I can't wait to see it. I'm planning on getting the omnibus asap. I'd love to see a serious remake of Conan done now with a good actor. With a story based on the actual official Conan mythos not the 'newer' ones .I could actually see Gerald Butler as Conan LOL.

Yeah, him or Vin Diesel.

Scarab Sages

Well the new Conan movie is currently set for release in 2011 and the rumored actor for the lead is Roland Kickinger (the body double for the T-800 in Terminator Salvation). I hope he can act, I've not seen anything else he's been in.

He was in Son of the Beach! You've totally seen that. We used to say he'd be perfect as Colossus in an X-Men movie.

Wow, I don't even remember that show. I must be getting old... Time to Hulu it for a refresher.

It's finally getting a U.S. release

Yeah, I already saw this. I don't think I'm going to bother seeing it in the theaters at this point.

Sovereign Court

Have it on DVD they waited to long :(

I got this DVD about 3 years ago. All you had to do was import it from the UK, there was no need to wait years for a U.S. release.

If you imported it from the UK, then you have to worry about regional compatibility. Not all Dvd's or computers are regional friendly.

The DVD was region 0, so it was compatible with all DVD players.

Scarab Sages

I watched this On Demand back in September. Enjoyed it. Hoping they put it out on Bluray.

Sovereign Court

i'm late to the party... just watched it on Netflix... but wow. What a great movie!
