Do you have to be a conservative gamer to use a dude in fullplate as your avatar?

Just an observation.

It's reached the point where I don't even look at screen names. If it's a guy with a helmet, I automatically expect to read a pro-oldschool/anti-radical-changes point of view.

What's up with that, anyway?

What does an ooze avatar say about me?

Please don't tell me what the fetus-in-a-jar avatar means. I already know and it's the reason I made the choice.

Your opinion is malleble and prone to engulfing anything that comes in contact with it?

I'm an archetype of the collective unconscious, but I still have a range of meaning that varies from individual to individual.

I'm a canine and I'll give you my tum if you're nice and bite your sack if you're not. (But that'll cost you five dollars more)

Hmm, I've never chosen a helmeted or armored avatar, and I'm pretty old school myself....

I'm an old dude. Look. I'm old.

My avatar would suggest I'm an evil, flamboyant, redhaired, bisexual queen.

Hmm...

I like where this thread is going. :)

And my avatar is a generic guy with a similar hair style to me. I guess I'm just an unimaginative bore.

Huh....and here I always assumed you were one of the backup members of Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.

Yes, us greybeard wizard avatars are conservative intellectuals who only want you whippersnappers to get off our lawn.

Now bring me some lemonade, it's hot on this porch.

I can't hear you. Because I'm old. Something about lemonade . . .

Eh, they didn't want a clarinetist running around wetting his reed and other vague innuendo like that.

A couple of people at GenCon expected me to be older due to my Avatar

That's why I changed mine. An old dude is much more accurate than my old minotaur was. People constantly expected me to be more bovine.

Hell, Frogboy should have YOUR avatar there Hydro. :P

I always thought that avatar should be reserved for froggie cultists. I wanted to add one to my little community of personalities, but never had the right concept for it.

I'm to lazy to scroll through the artwork options, and didn't recall seeing an option to put in a url for one I know I like...again, could have been that it was 5 a.m. and I had been up for 24 hours when I looked...but no matter...still to lazy to go looking through the pics...

Moved to the appropriate forum.

Please keep this thread civil.

Yeah, and every time I look at that avatar I think of Hugo Solis. Man, it's weird having an avatar forever linked with a poster that doesn't post that often anymore.

He can't. I found it first.

And Kuo-toa aren't frog people, they're...
um..
Scaly frog-people.

There's been some people MIA lately. Veector kind of came back, but where's HoustonDerek?

When Hugo comes back, I promise not to bug him about a certain illustration...much...if he comes back sooner than later.

Smurf.

See what you did, Jade? Do you always have to be threatening to bite people in the sack?

RPG Superstar 2010 Top 32

Just wondering, but why does Paizo have all the smurfs in its art bank?

Mairkurion {tm} wrote:

Apparently, he got a new job and had some personal problems. (In a pbp with him, not a creepy stalker).

EDIT: Why wouldn't Paizo have smur-fs in the art bank?

EDIT: What? Smur *dash* fs counts as Smurfs? That's unexpected.

Hugo has been a busy little frog lately, and I could have sworn I derek on today.

Okay, who smurfed me?

Do you have to be a euro-liberal fruitcake to use a smurf as your avatar?

;P

It's always a female avatar for me. I mean, I'm going to be seeing my own posts on a regular basis, might as well see a babe, right?

Besides, I still find it funny when someone assumes I'm female.

Otherwise, I always read the name, after seeing Hydro and Hugo in different threads it's kinda become mandatory.

It's smurfin' magic!

Ah...so, he's avoiding me? Is it something I said? It's something I said, right?

That is so badass.

I want to start saying "smurf" in every post now.

I am a DM, combine that with the spell of the same name and you get dead players.

PS: My avatar just personifies evil or at least death, lots of death.

But... if groin sacks weren't meant to be torn off and devoured by angry beasts, then why did nature make them look so much like figs?

Wow, that's the second time I've posted about figs in the same day. I seem to be figsating.

Using a fire-breathing dragon... having an occasional tendency to hurl vitriolic hyperbole and incendiary bombast? Naaaaaaah. No possible connection.

Well, before this one I had like five other avatars, all hot redheads. This one I just sort of picked as a joke, and it stuck. The fact that it bears more than a passing resemblance to what I looked like at age eighteen is just a little extra fun. It's probably why this one stuck. It suits me. :)
One thing I had noticed while I was searching for just the right avatar is that people react to posts differently based on the avatar. Weird but true. Maybe all the closed helmet dudes are coming across as conservative because that's what you think of when you see the avatar?

Interesting thought.

I don't think so in this case, though. I first picked up on this when I noticed that the three main guys arguing for heavy armor in the 900-post "cleric lost heavy armor" thread appeared to be fullplaters themselves.

It's not a judgment of them at all (I struggled for a way of saying "people who argue against changes to oldschool archetypes" that didn't sound prejudgmental, and unfortunately, "conservative' was the best I could come up with), I just think it's weird (and funny).

Looking back, I feel a little silly now that I notice that there really were just three of them. It seemed like a much broader trend. Plus, now I feel like I'm singling them out.

The Exchange

I'm pretty old school, but none of my avatars have a helmet.

Liberty's Edge

I am a faery.

Yes, I am comfortable with that.

Well, if you think about it, that's not so surprising. The guys that want their clerics in plate, have avatars wearing plate... Nope, not surprising at all.

That's not so surprising either. They were/are very vocal in their opinions and it did seem like there were a lot of them at times.

You aside there Darkwolf, this has to be one of the most interesting and insightful threads I've ever read. It makes me want to change my avatar and go undercover.

Are we finally going to announce that I'm really you?

This thread is full of awesome. You have to love a thread where the OP ends up smurfing his own thread. Frickin' glorious, I say.

Well done! I love this place.
