Core Rules - it's alive, and it thrives

Gamer Life General Discussion

I'm trying to decide how many copies I need to order of the hardcover Pathfinder Core Rules..

  • First copy - I will immediately shrink wrap and put on my shelf for my collection.

  • Second copy – I will need one copy on my desk, that I will use regularly.

  • Third copy – I will need one copy in my book bag, so when I am out at a coffee shop I will have a copy. I don’t want to carry my desk copy around in case I lose it.

  • Fourth copy – I am going to need a copy I can loan out from time to time. I don’t want loan out my desk copy , or my carry-around copy, because n00b players are forgetful.

Ok.. looks like I will be ordering 4 copies of the Pathfinder Core Rules to start off with.

    You'll break your back!

That thing weighs like eleventy-million pounds.

(I asked Jason if he could have made it smaller but he said no.)

Don't forget your digital copy so you've got something you can easily print off just in case you need it!

    I'm getting five (5)

    1) For myself

    2) For my roommate (She wants her own copy)

3 & 4) for my old gaming groupmates, who have kids and family (i.e. a life, which I'm sorely lacking)

    5) My digital copy (since I'm going to subscribe) which will rest comfortably on my hard drive at home, and sit on a DVD-ROM here at work for me to read between audits.

I'll be getting 3 copies myself.

I kind of wish we were buying them online so I could get the digital copy, but I tend to buy my books at our local gaming/bookstore since being out here in Huntsville Alabama, ANY game store that even TRIES to sell RPG stuff I tend to support just so they stick around. I mean I need SOMEWHERE to go to look at new miniatures.

I understand. My FLGS knows that I subscribe, but I do try to buy my Battletech stuff there, and my reaper minis.

Now if only Catalyst could get their shift together and, oh I don't know, publish something.

There's all small part of me that would be delighted to see something to the effect of "various ways to exercise/have a workout with your Pathfinder Core Rules"

    I'm ordering two copies.

Yes, this is a bit of a problem, especially since I'm GMing at Gencon.

The signed, GM swag copy will never see play, end of story.

Since I will be subscribing, I will get copy there, but I won't have that in time to run my slots at Gencon. This one will end up as a gift.

So I'll probably end up buying a copy for the table on Thursday morning, making a total of three.

Oddly, though I'm still not sold on Pathfinder, I'm onboard at least through the bestiary. Even if I don't run it day to day, I'll consider the core as money well spent.

I need a paperweight, so maybe a 5th copy is in order?

That sounds perverted -- to buy an RPG book that you know you'll never use.

I'll buy one copy, and let it get dog-eared and flipped through and spilled on as Aroden intended!

I'm also ordering 4 copies, 1 for the DM (That's me) and 3 for my players (a 7 PC party)...it’s a long way to Mexico City!!

    A question :
I intend to buy a "dead tree" version, but i would also need a PDF one to carry with me everywhere in my laptop.
So will there be a PDF version for sale too ?
Or will it be reserved to the subscribers ?

Scoff! Five copies! TWO COPIES! Come on! Remember, you've got a room full of starving editors to feed! Lisa said we don't get to eat in August unless we sell a million.

And we're already so weak... so weak...

There will be a PDF version available. Its price is yet to be determined.

There will be a PDF version free with a subscription. I'm not sure if the PDF will be sold separately.

I have ordered 8 copies. My intent was a copy for me and give others as a gift to my group members. After seeing this thread I am reconsidering whether I may need a couple of more for myself.

I am subscribing though so I will have the PDF. With the BETA I just printed the PDF and put it into a notebook with tabs so I could find things easily. I actually had three notebooks so I had spells and magic items separately. That worked great for me and I may do it with my PDF again. I unfortunately, gave away my last copy of the BETA for a new player and when the final comes out I need to get that back for my collection.

I'm getting two....I plan to buy them at GenCon because reading between the lines - I guess there will be a signed copy or something special for the books sold at GenCon.

I'm really jealous of you people who can afford to buy more than 1 copy...I HOPE I can Afford mine come August...

    =(

I'm starting with two myself, pre-ordering from amazon. One for the desk and one for the gaming shelves. May eventually buy a third and fourth.

Third would be my personal book for the gaming table as a player and DM, and the fourth for my godson for when he is old enough to start playing RPGs (he's 3 now).

    I'm only getting one copy.

    Liberty's Edge

I'll be ordering a single copy (and a .pdf) for myself initially. Assuming it lives up to my expectations (I assume it will), I'll be ordering another four copies shortly thereafter.
