They could throw him a bone...maybe he can land a death blow on the goblin cleric. He'll just get replaced with another one that looks just like him. At any rate, he's not much of a threat. For all we know he could just get recaptured and thrown back in a cell.

Yeah it's the promise of pain that's a fair give away... pain tends to be more effective on the living (now there are some flavors of spells that change that, but as a general rule pain is best used on the living).
