Hmmmm . . . for a good while now I've been thinking about running a PbP for some old friends who, as far as I know, haven't looked at the rules since probably before 3e. I keep thinking that it'll probably be easier to run them with a streamlined form of the rules similar to the 1e & 2e days of the game - leaving out things like AoO, special attacks, grappling, metamagic feats, and maybe a few other things. Then, as things progress, maybe add some of it back.
This, naturally, has me wondering if there is any talk of a basic or intro set of rules for Pathfinder. So, is there? Personally, I think it's a great idea. For one, it'll help bring new people, and younger players, into the game. Second, there is just something that is really appealing about occasionally playing a simplified game ala D&D Basic.
So, what do you say, Paizonians?

Count me in as someone that would be interested in a Pathfinder Lite or a Pathfinder Basic, which would be based on the full Pathfinder rule set, but a lot of the more complex concepts would be left out - AoA, skills, feats, grappling, etc... My thought is that it would look a lot like OD&D, and would just contain the skeleton of the rule set and the individual groups could then add anything from the full rule set or just leave all that stuff out.
The added benefit from a rule light system is that it would make high-level play a lot simpler.

We've talked about it a bit amongst ourselves, but no plans at this stage. But this kind of idea is in our thoughts. Someday perhaps.

Thanks for the response, Lisa. In reality, it's something that can really be done by the individual anyway. For me, it would be along the lines of, "Hey guys, let's start a game, for now, just ignore the chapters on skills & feats, special attacks, etc. Oh, what's a AoO? Don't worry about it for right now."
I was just wondering, as I said, if Paizo was going to tie my shoelaces for me.

I love how this keep coming up. A boxed set with everything new players need to baby-step into Pathfinder RPG and even RPGing in general would be great. I can see myself gifting nephews (and other young or new players) with such a product, so I hope it is somewhere off the in the future. Just how of curiosity, does anyone have any idea how the last two basic boxed sets did for Wizards?
