FW:
** spoiler omitted **
The answer to your question is yes, frankly I doubt many wizards could afford a bonded item at Level 1 if they didn't get full gold. Even then they would never have a masterwork weapon at first. It should be more in line with the cost of a holy symbol, I believe. I haven't spoilered this because I would like to hear what others think to.
Zaid
I'll need to know where the amulet is kept on your person. There are a couple of other things that Zaid has had time to think about in his journey.
The Pathfinder Captain warned Zaid that there may be more to Kelmarane than meets the eye. 20 years ago it was left to ruin by the Pactmasters. talk is of curses and plagues but there are no details. An important trade route was abandoned. there is likely something to report to the Captain - something which may explain more about the mysterious Pactmasters themselves.
Secondly in Kelmarane there was a working infusium, a sort of alchemical device. detailed notes on it would be appreciated.
Also from day one of leaving Solku with Garavel, he has made it clear that he regards Pathfinders as a bunch of lawless tomb robbers. In fact the Pathfinder Captain had mentioned that the Society was regarded poorly in Katapesh, warning Zaid to tread carefully.

FW,
OK to start play with a dog? Nothing special, just a dog via the summon animal domain trait. Says it stays around until dismissed or it dies. Also just checking, plant domain says unarmed attacks don't provoke AoO. Damage stays subdual though, right? Otherwise it would be as good as improved unarmed attack.
Yes to having a jackal or wild dog as a version on the summoning. You could have a desert wolf if you prefer. Or a small viper?
As for the wooden fist it deals nonlethal bludgeoning damage only (1d3 at your level). The benefit of the feat, Improved Unarmed Strike, is that it gives you the ability to choose whether to kill or not.

So we're agreed on wooden fist .
A dog is fine. Some near-feral scruffy underfed specimen. Although he'll see some combat, he's a roleplay accessory rather than combat enhancement. In fact I expect they will have very short lives in combat. I'll stat up a typical specimen and drop him on my alias.

FW, still have a little shopping to do and background write-up, but all the basics are there. Oh and the campaign goals, got to look into that. Otherwise I think I'm good to go.
Your background idea is good, therealthom, and the avatar is superb.
Shimei
Secondly could you separate out the point blank shot bonus? Your melee and ranged attacks seem to both have it.
i.e.
Melee +1 Dagger (1d4+1, 19-20/x2)
Ranged: +3 longbow 1d8/x3 (+1 attack/damage when within 30 feet)
Let me know how you get on and if I can help just holler.

Shimei
Remember the jackal-headed gnolls attacking, with savage wild animals creating havoc and the villagers terrified as you watched in the distance.
That massive boar crashing through a clay wall after a man, your father? who knows, but it got him and gored and squealed. It killed many.
Remember the two hyenas, cackling and yipping as they fought over a body, until an axe wielding gnoll split it in two, howling out loud.
Above all remember the cheers of "Three Jaws!" that were led by a taller gnoll. One with a black mane running halfway down his back like a stripe.
When you found Garavel, he did not want you at first. He eventually came back and took you on, only because of the deal that you wouldn't go all mad and vengeful on your own. Stay with the rest and work as part of the team. If you mess up then he will give you three days rations and point you towards Solku.

I've stated up my dwarf rogue - Morgrym Hammerbolt - where should I post them? I've gone with the gnoll killer trait
To save you some time and effort, I would do this.
Go into my aliases, go into the elf rogue Divel Divellios, open all the spoilers you want first then copy those bits into your Morgrym alias after pressing edit profile.
All you have to do then is change a few bits and you will be good to go.
Same for you michael fox 630.
Greyworker, my other Beta PC, Bedu the Barber is a dwarf bard so you could nick a few racial bits off him too if you want.
So far we have Erizi and Zaid good to go.
Brett is away at a four day wargame but he will finish off Nombir when he gets back.
Shimei is almost done.
Greyworker and michael, let me know when you have completed and then I'll give them the once over. Hopefully we can start early next week when everyone is ready.
Cheers

Could someone give me idiot instructions as to how to add my character details under an alias. I'm not seeming to find the relevant commends.
Thanks!
Click on "My Account" at the top of the page. Do the password thing.
Then about halfway down the page (depending on your screen size) you should see MessageBoard Aliases and below that "Create a Messageboard Alias" link. Click there. Fill in the info it asks for (mostly your character's name) and pick an avatar. Then you can go back to Your Account. You should see it in your aliases. Click "Edit" and you can fill out stats and stuff.

Greyworker
1) Go into your alias (via main account or clicking on his avatar name)
2) Top Left - press edit profile and a big box appears.
3) Copy and paste into box (as per my suggestions) or go solo.
BTW if you haven't done the spoilers or out-of-character(light blue) or bold stuff and want to know the easiest way is to press reply on a previous post and you can see how the BBCodes work.
Cheers

The codes take time and practice. Don't worry about that we have all been there.
Try to reply in spoiler
Michael
What I am saying is when I said posting daily I meant it. Now I know therealthom and Rimrock of old, and can vouch for the two local players (greyworker and Brett) too. Scranford finished his PC in record time which bodes well for his playing style. With the time and effort involved by myself I would rather you either be wholehearted about this now or step down.
If I am honest with myself I know that I am in games that rock and that's because people are posting two or three times a day!
All this may seem harsh but I have run games before and had players let me down. Now what do you think? You in? Its going to be a helluva ride.
If you find the use of spoilers a big problem then you can email me direct off boards at frenchwolf17@yahoo.com.

Just a little heads up for most of you.
I DM once every five weeks or so for all Saturday and its tomorrow. So I'm busy trying to finish the adventure and the like until after that. Converting a 2nd Ed Dungeon scenario to Pathfinder and adding bits of the Crimson Throne is not at easy as I first thought it would be!
That means I doubt I'll be posting much today even though its Easter. Its a shame but my wife is working too so I have a little bundle of son to cope with too.
Also you may not realise yet but I was making passive checks during the first encounter for some of you.
For instance Erizi, I made an intelligence check about moving the water wagon closer to the fire. You were on the right lines because you "could" have carried it there (Strength check DC20). Had you passed the check I'd have hinted at that pretty strongly but you rolled a 3.
Gradually you guys will get to know my style of play but I just thought you'd want to know.
Obviously that doesn't stop you guys using your skills whenever you want.
Finally I am handing out XP as per the module. If it proves to easy for the six of you then I may add the odd challenge here or there, especially so that everyone keeps pace with leveling.
Cheers

French Wolf, by way of full disclosure as requested by you above, I have skimmed through both Legacy of Fire adventures. Pretty sure I can keep meta- and game- knowledge separate. I meant to just read the intro, but I think Howl is hands down the best chapter of any of the Pathfinder APs so far. I couldn't stop myself.

FW: I can't find a PF Track feat. I think it has been subsumed by the survival skill. (Rangers now get a bonus of 1/2 level to track checks as a class trait.)
From skills in beta rules:
Survival (Wis)
You are skilled at surviving in the wild and following the tracks left by others....
Let me know what you think.
Roger on the too dark for tracking. First time through I missed that we arrived at camp at sundown. I guess I was fixated on Garavel wanting to arrive at noon. I thought we had plenty of light.
While we're chatting, I should probably run something else by you. Shimei isn't carrying a holy symbol as such. I was planning on him using his bow as holy symbol. OK?
Also, I was going to work an association with the local nomads into his background, as an explanation for his survival skills.
French Wolf
|
Good question. I'll have a look and let you know by tomorrow evening about the Tracking. Never crossed my mind that the feat was gone. Duh.
The holy symbol bow is fine by me, but that probably increases the value by the silver chasings and prayers and blessings required to make the bow a conduit of power.
Don't lose it!
Cheers

I'll take out some more cash to cover the silver, etc. then.
Dashki is pretty fun, where fun means annoying. Nice job with him.
EDIT: OK had to lose my rope and tent, but I've got the juiced longbow now.

One son, ill but getting better.
Wife, ill and getting iller.
Me getting better and no more eye infections.
I think its just because of lack of sleep that we keep getting colds and other viruses but it only really matters when both my wife and I get hit.
Its not serious, just feels never ending.
Anyway I am fit enough to get this game back on track.
Lets see you guys finish off this investigation.
Cheers

Now that my boy's in high school, the cycle of illness seems to have been broken, but I remember those days. Someone would come down ill and you would just wonder if you'd be next. On the plus side, it gives you something to talk about when you compare notes on symptoms.
| therealthom |
Yeah, it gets a bit competitive though. Who is the most tired or more ill?
I'd like to see that light at the end of the tunnel.
Cheers
That reminds of a commercial that ran over here a few years ago. Dad and son on couches in the living room in bathrobes, obviously sick. Mom comes in takes thermometer from son's mouth , "101" takes thermometer from dad's mouth, "102". Sympathetic looks all around. Mom leaves. Dad looks his son in the eye and says weakly but with determination, "In your face." I thought that was pretty funny. (I was going through a very competitive phase with my son, where he was finally beating me for real.)
