I noticed that the same artwork was used on pgs 58 and 291 in the Pathfinder RPG Beta PDF.
Using the same image twice isn’t a huge deal, but the lack of originality is a little disappointing.
It would be great to see one of these redundant images replaced with another equally awesome piece of artwork.
I hope this is fixed in the final version.

The Beta used recylced pictures from the APs and other older paizo products. As I understand it the final version will me 99% new art (there may be a few old pictures, such as the races line up, but otherwise it should be mostly new)

Actually, the races line-up will definetly be replaced. The old one took too much flak.
The iconic character pics from the classes section will probably stay the same, though. They're just as they should be, after all.
The beta had no new art since it was, well, a beta. The art for the final game probably wasn't even painted yet.
Still, it's a great opportunity to get a lot of very decent PF art - and it's free in the PDF!

There will be a lot of new art in the final RPG, but not anything like 99% new art. The races line up is specifically one we are replacing, though, since it was ordered at the very start of All Things Pathfinder and doesn't mesh with the art style we soon settled on.

Tease.
Also...It's almost 1am on the Pacific coast. Is everyone at Paizo an insomniac?
Yep can't wait...
I was down at my local gameshop, "Fantask" yesterday and they told me that Pathfinder is their best selling rpg right now, and that's pretty cool, considering that the core rules aren't even on the shelves yet.Pathfinder products are prominently displayed in the window and buying from the shop isn't too expensive compared to buying the goodies online...
also... it's 10.06 in the morning, the sun is shining and spring just came to Copenhagen yesterday...

Man, I'm glad they're using different "Races" line up art. I really could have gone the rest of my life without knowing dwarves prefer boxers and half-orcs sport banana hammocks...
Seriously, nothing says "fantasy roleplaying" like a Sears underwear catalogue.
Edited due to reading that the races line up will not be the same.

Well... the new races are still in their underwear. The purpose here is to show the race, not show the class; once you dress up a dwarf or a gnome or anyone, they're gonna end up looking like they're characters with class levels. That section's a WHOLE chapter away from the race chapter, after all!

Lest anyone get the wrong idea, I'm not a prude or anything (some here who know me IRL can attest to that), I just really don't like the race line ups in the 3x/PfRPG. Banana hammocks and bikinis in a fantasy game? Gee, why don't they have drinks with umbrellas in their hands, while standing under the gazebo near the pool?
Sorry for this mini-rant, but the artwork used to be a huge selling point for me when purchasing gaming stuff. It took me a while to get into Shadowrun (1e) because the archetype pictures were so god-awfully campy. To be completely honest, if the written content weren't so damned awesome, I'd probably never buy Pathfinder stuff, as Wayne Reynolds' art isn't my cup of tea by a long shot.
Anyway, I'm going to pick up the bestiary and the core rules regardless of the art, just felt like whining for a sec :)

One does not stand under the gazebo. The Gazebo stands over him, triumphantly crushing the bones of yet another adventurer foolish enough to challenge it...
AHEM.
Actually, I liked the racial line ups in PF1, and I am sad the artist was not used more. Lyrie and Nualia were pretty hot...

The artist's style is pretty cool, I agree.
And, yeah, I should have used "cabana". I forgot about the story of the "vocabulary-challenged player"...

More or less, yeah.
Whoa! Lots of you guys are up and about. That's true dedication, I must say. I could use a few of you guys on the bridge or in the Combat Information Center standing the watch! ;-)
Now, as for character races in their underwear, while the idea behind the lineup didn't really bother me, I'm not a big fan of the angluar style. I do find it amusing that all the males in that lineup appear to be unhappy about having to stand there in their skivvies...and that the dwarf and the halfling were given boxer shorts.

Nooo!!! I LOVE the races lineup! That was one of my favorite pieces of artwork. (sad face) I thought the personalities of the races were perfectly exemplified. The sporty and colorful art style made that particular piece of artwork fun and refreshing.
I understand your concern that the artwork doesn't "mesh" with the rest, but I think that's part of the charm. The wide variety of art styles in the book keep the experience fresh and interesting.
I can tell you that everybody in my group (myself included) loves the races lineup. Maybe a few people with more traditional tastes have complained, but I think you would be doing many more fans a disservice by replacing it.
Please Paizo, don't ax this awesome piece of artwork.
This is my official petition to save the current races lineup!

Will the Iconic art still being used in the final version Ie Iconic bard in bard section Iconic druid in druid section ect? and will much of the new art have the iconics in it? As for the races lineup it was generally specific things that annoyed people (Elf ears) So I hope the new one is like the old one with the annoying bits edited than a whole new one.

Love the dwarf.

I liked the races line-up, but it will be nice to see some more Golarion-y artwork. Right now, when you're looking for an avatar for a gnome in a PbP, you have a choice of Lini or ... Lini.

I saw the new races line-up yesterday. It was done by Steve Prescott, who did the covers for Second Darkness. It has the same feel of the original races line-up but without the angular artwork and the 4-foot long elf ears. As for whether dwarves still like boxers.....

The art's already axed, alas. That single picture alone drew more criticism than any other piece of art we've used, I would guess, since the style's so different than what most RPG gamers are accustomed to. It was FAR more than a few traditionalists complaining.
In any case, as Lisa said, the new art's done by Steve Prescott. His characters are rendered in a more realistic, less comic-book/angular style, and their underwear is much less anachronistic looking.

The Iconics are remaining in the book to illustrate the classes section, yes. The new art will feature the iconics heavily.

How could they be jealous of the dwarf? He's in boxers, who knows what he's working with? Now, that half-orc in the banana hammock, you see the way the ladies eyebrows raised three inches?

Just want to throw in a sad sigh here. For what it's worth, none of my crew had a problem with it. Though I preferred it in small doses, I did enjoy that artist's work. This isn't a knock against Steve Prescott's work. I enjoy his stuff too, it's just that it always makes me sad to see an artist shouted out by cries of "badwrongstyle".
I <3 anachronism.
PS: Here's hoping the new gnome is just as "anime-ish" as the old one, just to spite the naysayers. What with gnomish occular gigantism, they should be halfway there already.

So I was telling my wife about this topic! she had me laughing!
She said the women in that picture are nice and busty but the man are rather... lacking...
Also she noticed the male elf was obviously NOT packing much and should probably be replaced with a female who in the same outfit would pack more!
Also she noted it makes no sense for the dwarf to wear boxers... he has a beard to cover up down there! Boxers are just sissy elven shorts to hide that they aren't hung.
And as for the half-orc banana hammock... she said it was a little banana!
She decided the Golarion males just were not fit to reproduce...

LOL Because they have to mate with someone to get some respect going!
That hammock goes UP the waist... doesn't hang down at all! itty bitty banana! but still even the gnome appeared bigger than the elf... are you sure that elf wasn't female?

Huh? I didn't say anything about elves, did I? But you have to drag your elf-hate into it. You hate-filled, hate-filled horrible speciesist!
;-P
Plus, you can defend your dwarves all day long, but the usual word in most D&D worlds is that their birth rate is going down. Except in the Realms (pre Soap Opera Realms) maybe, where there's the "Thunder Blessing" of Moradin (delivered in the form of little blue pills no doubt)
