Best Character Sheet?

There are a bunch of different versions of character sheets that people have designed.

I'm starting a new campaign, and my players have asked for character sheets. Are there any that you'd recommend?

Ema had a great generic 3.5 character sheet...

Ema may be gone, but the sheets are still out there...

"Best" in this case is a very relative term, because certain character sheets may be great, but not useful for your group.

For instance, there could be a set that look great, but upon further inspection, are designed towards very-low magic when you're in a high magic setting, or vice-versa.

It would help to know what you need on the character sheet before we start suggesting which one to use.

You're right, of course, Cato Novus. I left that open-ended, in part, to see what other people valued. To be open to serendipity, as it were.

My house rules are peculiar. If I were looking for our ideal sheet, it would be 3.5 baseline (rather than Pathfinder or Arcanis) and it would have a place for reserve points, and a Massive Damage threshhold.

The campaign is going to stay low- to mid-level, but players can spend XP on skill ranks and feats, as well as on full experience levels, so eventually there should be room to accommodate more feats than normal.

And a form that can be filled out on-line and printed would be a bonus. And I've always been partial to landscape-orientation arrangements, but that's not so important for me to dismiss a terrific portrait-orientation form.

My own character sheets are the best. At least I think so. They're more or less just as I want them. Might work for you guys, too

Find them at my site, available for PF Beta and 3.5e.

I know what you mean, I have similar peculiarities for Tegara(for instance, the governing Attribute for Spellcraft isn't always INT, it could be CHA or WIS, based on which class you use). If you like, I have an example of what I'm putting together for Tegara. It doesn't quite fit what you need, but it can altered to fit your needs.

Jon Brazer Enterprises

Green Ronin's Character Record Folio. Nothing beats a 16 page sheet bound up in an easy to carry package. Hands down recommended.

I am totally hooked on The Only Sheet; it requires Excel and an annual $20.00 (Canadian dollars), but it is worth it. The sheer functionality of this (and it is now PF compatible) is amazing. I can't even imagine the sheer amount of macros this program is using. For instance, you take the Improved Initiative feat, the program automatically adds in the extra +4 to your initiative. You equip a pair of boots of springing and striding, the program automatically increases your speed (barring emcumbrance issues) and jump skill modifier. I can't say enough about this program, except I wish all my players (in all three campaigns) would use it as well!

There have been several marvelous versions shared on previous discussion threads.

Last Christmas season, I put in about 40 hours crafting my own Pathfinder Beta/3.5/Homebrew campaign setting custom character sheet.

Since you ask, I believe the very best character sheets are one crafted from the "hobby" of gamemastering out of love for the game, and customized for the particular campaign the gm is running.

I understand though, this is rarely a case. And there are many great character sheets out there that are good enough.

When I play 3.5 I use the Mad Irishman's classic old-school feel character sheet.

I'm not sure if anyone's mentioned this yet (haven't read through this thread completely).

Also, the early Pathfinder Beta sheets created by ..... what was his name (his icon is a monkey of some sort)were really well done. Let me see if I still have a link - if so, I'll post it. His sheets were awesome, still used by some of my players in our weekly Pathfinder RPG game.

SALAMA

Click Salama's profile link above. Good stuff.

Check out the character sheets available on his profile page. They are top shelf imho.

I might post my homebrew one - - let me think about that.

I'm a huge fan of Necrmancer Games' Ultimate Character Sheet; namely because it's one of the only character sheets I've found that actually has enough room for feats on it if your character is a 20th level human gestalt fighter/X (I play a lot of gestalt games...). Not to mention a huge section for 'notes' (typically used for detailing what the aforementioned feats do).

The only quibble I have, is the relatively small amount of page space given to weapons and armor. But I've yet to have trouble with it.

Still, I heartily recommend it:

My group has been using a sheet designed by Erian_7 which I got off of this discussion. I like this one because it is Excel, and I can tweak it to things our group wants/needs.

Nice sheet, and nice site Kae Yoss, I take it you just starting to build it?

In any case what program did you use to make the sheet, its very close to how I want to make mine (except I'm sticking to 3.5 skill set as well as few other skills from 3pp, and adding Conan's Dodge and Parry rules/table) any tips would be helpful.

As to the question at hand, if your using the standard rules without to much house rules, then many of the sheets already mentioned are very good, mostly asthetics. For me Em was the place to go, but its gone now (although I never did find out why other then Wizards told them to shut down, but I don't know of them going after fan sites persame, Dragonlance nex is still around last time I checked) in any case good luck.

Msking your own character sheet i think would be the best way to go as you'll be able to place everything exactly the way you want it.

that said, a regular notebook/binder is really flexiable as a character sheet
