Would the owner of pfsrd.org please stand up?

I was thinking to myself recently "d20srd.org is a really good site, it even won an award, i wonder if i could do the same with Pathfinder.."
So, here I go, on godaddy.com to see how much it would cost to start up a website called 'PFSRD.org'. A site for pathfinder rules similar to d20srd.org. And to my horror it's already taken. Not that i'm suprised. PF has been out for a while, and it was only a matter of time before someone sprang the $10 to register the domain. So, now that i know that it's taken, i decide to take a look at it, figuring someone has already put up a site. But what i get instead is a google page asking me to log in. Looks like someone registered it through google and hasn't done anything with it. Bummer. So, i tried to go to whois.com to find out who owns that domain, and apparently it wont say. Nice. Now, my only hope is, whoever does own that domain, actually has plans to put up a site, and isn't just sitting on the domain name. I'd very much like to be a part of that site if it were possible.

[/rant]

Sorry.. just felt the need to express my frustration.

I'm the current registrant for pfsrd.org. The WHOIS registration is anonymized by the registration company not because I want my name hidden, but because otherwise the admin email becomes public knowledge, including to spammers.
You will note that it is listed under the Community Use Registry (scroll down to Wayfinder, at the bottom).

There IS a half-(for certain generous values of half)completed d20srd type site there. It is hosted using Google Sites.

The reason it is behind a password is that Paizo asked very nicely when the Beta came out for folks to NOT put it up publicly before the final game release, because they wanted to know, via registration and download, how many people were checking out the beta. Also, if people had to register at Paizo to get the Beta, they were more likely to contribute tot he playtest rather than merely complaining into the nearest Intertoob. Obviously, due to the OGL this was an unenforceable request, but I decided to be courteous and obey. The fact that other folks (like pfogc.com) did NOT obey is beyond my control.

As it is, I am kind of glad it is mostly hidden because I'm embarassed at how little I've managed to do with it.

If you would like a login, please contact the email listed in my profile. This extends to the Paizo community as a whole.

Nice! lol.. Well.. good luck with it. I hope that, with the PF Community licence, and Compatibility licence out now, that it'll be a success.

Ah well.. looks like I've gotta do something else then..

Edit: Just caught your edit, I'll be sending you an email.

Cool! I'm glad you liked it.

There is a somewhat mostly complete (all rules in place, but formatting and cross linking is a work in progress) srd for pathfinder at http://pfogc.com (also available as http://pfrpg.com).

Are all the spells in there? I only see up to "M" or so.

I am personally not going to support pfogc.com until they take the horrific banner ads down.

http://www.d20srd.org/ doesn't have ads. Why should their site?

Jans (the owner of d20srd.org) makes a little money (for hosting purposes) by selling subscriptions.

At any rate, I'd like to see an offically Paizo-hosted site more than a fan site.

I would imagine Jans makes just about enough money to keep the site running. Anyone can have a site for ~$10 - $25 a month. I wouldn't mind a fan site (thus the reason for looking up domain names), so long as it's done well. And d20srd.org is done very well (imo), and though they're not accepting any more subscriptions, I'm still a subscriber and don't plan on ending it soon (unless he pulls the site for some reason). If a fan site were supported or endorsed or even acknowledged by Paizo, so much the better. Though, I'm going to wait till PFRPG comes out officially, and for one of the Paizo Employees to make some statement/comment about what their plans are for a PF SRD, whether it'll be a paizo.com hosted site, or if they'll leave it to the fans (that doesn't mean i can't plan ahead of time).

I subscribe to d20srd.org, both for the offline content and to support the site itself.

Scroll down the page. The spells are undergoing a formatting update. After "M" are lower down the page, as links into a large page containing all the spells. The updated formatting has all of the spells in individual pages.

Interesting. In what way would you "support" the site if the banner ads were gone? The banner ads are up in the hopes of making enough revenue over the course of the year to pay for the domain name.

BTW, if you are a member of wikidot.com (free registration), the banner ads go away entirely.

Update: Spells list has been modified so that all valid links appear together. Yet-to-be-updated links appear at the bottom of the page.

Well, there are banner ads, and then there are BANNER ADS. The ads on this site interrupt the flow of the content to a degree that makes it extremely annoying to use the site. That's just my personal opinion.

hmm.

There's a 90 pixel tall banner ad directly below the page title, and at the bottom of the left sidebar there is a 160 pixel wide ad. Neither ad splits content.

I'm trying to understand why these ads are so onerous, or whether you simply prefer not seeing banner ads in general.

(I generally use firefox with adblock, so I don't see most banner ads anywhere.)

I need to sign on to a google account to access the site?!?!
No thank you.

I will second Fray's opinion, if I have to sign up for a Google account then I say No Thank you. I do not need an additional set of username and passwords that I have to remember just to access a site that "might" make my GMing life a little bit easier.

Just my 2 cp.

But there's many magical things one can do with a Google account. I use it to share and update documents between my players, for example.

No thank you.

Just to clarify, that's for pfsrd.org, not pfogc.com (which suits my needs just fine, ad banner or no ad banner).

EDIT: Oh, I think I know why the banner doesn't bother me; it's because I signed up to wikidot.com and therefore it doesn't appear.

Actually, I don't think that's true of pfsrd.org either (I just tried to sign in with my Google acct, won't work.) I think you have to email Ross and ask to be added. That said, having a Google acct is great for DMing.

Liberty's Edge

speaking from a players point, and someone who dosnt have alot of money to be buying all the sourse books, I Love the pfogc.com. it gives me a quick way to look up different rules. I dont have trouble with the banners as i didnt even know they were there, but if i did it would still be okay to me that the owner was making a few dollars to help pay for the site. I dont think this comes even close to the time he must invest to maintain this site. so for me THANK YOU, for doing this site.

To be fair, you don't need to spend any money to get the Pathfinder Beta rules (which the web site is based on). But it is a great way to look up rules quickly.

RPG Superstar 2008 Top 32

Yes, it requires a Google Account to sign in to pfsrd.org currently, since it is marked 'private'. Additionally, Mairkurion is right, you have to email me to be added to the user list. This was the easiest way to keep the site hidden from the 'general public' per Paizo's request.

When the final RPG comes out in August, after the site is fully built, it will become a PUBLIC site and no login will be required. (Unless things change, like Paizo asking for the domain.)
