In another pbp here on these boards, SHISUMO came up with the following, to help the DM:

Maneuver Resistance
The resistance to Combat Maneuvers is usually 15 + your CMB (which is usually your BAB + Str modifier). However, some things provide for more resistance. If you have the Defensive Combat Training feat, for instance, that makes all maneuver attacks against you suffer a +4 to the DC. And if you have any of the Improved feats (grapple, trip, sunder, bull rush, etc) those add another +2 to the DC vs that specific type of maneuver.

In this case, we could add a line like this

Maneuver Resistance: 15

like in my case. Maybe it could help our DM... Any thoughts!?

I've seen something similar for other PRPG character sheets - basically it splits your combat maneuver item into offense and defense.

So in my case, it would be offense +0, defense 15. I think it's a good idea, and will add the appropriate line to my stats.

I've done a quick overview of Howl of the Carrion King (haven't had time yet to do a thorough read), but from what I have seen, we are in for a real treat. It looks awesome.

Woo!

Takes that as a cue to hurry and get that backstory done.

If you guys want to add a 'Manuever Resistance' line to your sheets, that would actually be helpful. Thanks for that tidbit, Dryder.

Speaking of...I should be able to go over Mirama's sheet this evening (thanks for the assist spotting the first fix, Count Buggula).

Everybody who still needs to finish up backgrounds, how we lookin'? I'm pretty close to ready to get this thing rolling. :)

I was hoping to get it to you this evening but work called. I'll have it written and up ASAP along with all the stat bits you wanted added. I'm sorry for the delay. :)

Are my ears burning?

Looking forward to reading your PbP, Mal! It should be really interesting to see how a traditional version of this story compares against my... unorthodox... version!

Thanks, Shisumo! Good luck with yours too!

Dryder, I looked over Mirama's stats, and I did see some discrepancies.

1. I actually calculated her as having 13 skill ranks to assign. 8 +2 (INT bonus) +1 (Human race) +1 (Favored Class) +1 (Finding Haleen trait). So, it looks like she's short two. By the same token, I believe she should have 9 hp (again, due to the Finding Haleen trait).

2. With her INT score and Linguistics skill, she can know two more languages (I'll give her Mwangi for free!)

3. Her weapons damage should not include a +2 bonus (Weapon Finesse applies only to the attack roll, not damage).

4. Her base AC should be 15 (although the Flat-Footed and Touch totals are correct)

5. If you would, please include her Armor Check Penalty in the appropriate skill totals.

Incidentally, I saw that you took the Finding Haleen trait, which means that Mirama may be familiar with Khalit and Martika before the adventure begins, if you and Craig/Scribbling Rambler would like.

Done!

Ok, would it be asked too much if she could speak a small ammount of Gnollish? She could have been a prisoner of some Gnolls, after hitting the coast during the storm. No problem if not!

D'oh!

Well, I added the +1 from the Dodge feat, but I can change it back.

I'll do!

Sure!

Dryder,

Gnoll is fine as a language known.

And, go ahead and leave Mirama's AC at 15, I forgot to account for her Dodge feat. My bad.

Thanks for making those fixes!

You mean leave it at 16?! I already substracted one point, as you told me. So if its ok for you, I'll change it back to 16 then... ;)

Male Human Sorceror 1

Khalit has been updated, with a background, maneuver resistance, and Auran as a bonus language.

Everything ok with him, Mal? Which interpretation of Genie Blood are we using? ie Would my (air) trait bonus be on cold or lightning?

Dryder, Mirama is included in Khalit's background, as an "older sister".

Eagerly anticipating the start!!

Agh, 16, yes. That's what I meant, of course.

Sorry, Dry.

Air=Lightning, as far as I'm concerned. I think Khalit should be good to go now.

As for that eagerly anticipated start, it may just come tonight. :D

Female Human Paladin 1

Hi all, sorry I've been quiet. I've updated my character, and I think I'm done (although of course there will be evolution in play).

Rambler, let me know if the bit about Nethys doesn't work for you. I tried to keep it my perception/justification for your character's nature in light of my own beliefs.

Looking forward to the game!

Great! I think it works with what I've written in my background, so I presently will not change anything. Our DM should check if that all works together somehow... :)

So, let's get ready to rumb...er... throw some sand around!

Larcifer, I just recognized that you never have responded to my initial comments about Javeed's character sheet. I know you're out of town, but please do take a look at those when you get back.

Dryder wrote:

I'm more than happy with the background tie-ins between the three characters. I'm sure the relationship will develop naturally as the game progresses.

Y'all ready for this?

Legacy of Fire game thread

Let's have a blast! See you there.

Female Human Cleric 1

Malvoisin, my background is up.

If anything needs to be dialed back, please let me know. ;)

I hesitated to explain what she was doing in Katapesh before joining the caravan, because I was so late in getting my background up. I guess it was her first foreign assignment by her priesthood for her outside of Osirion. She's big on helping slaves, and Katapesh has plenty of those...

I think that's an excellent background, Valkyrie. Well done.

Thanks!

Before jumping in, I just wanted to check with Craig: Is it alright for Ikethru to know why Martika and her brother are travelling with the caravan? I figured if she's recognizable as a servant of Sarenrae, Ikethru would have at least talked with her a bit if they don't know each other already(she would make no secret of her own reasons in that case; she's going to restore a temple of Sarenrae at their destination).

Sovereign Court Contributor

Martika makes no secret of her purpose in being here, and it makes absolute sense that she and Ikethru would have talked a lot on the way here.

Gotcha! Thanks!

Reads Mirama's post in the IC thread.

Wow, we've all had such fun lives so far. ;)

Valkyrie Paine wrote:

Yeah, I've been thinking the same thing. "Holy crap! These guys all need therapy...or at least a hug." :)

Hmmm...we're off to a good start. Question is, to wait for Larcifer before my next post or not? I suppose for a little while longer...

Liberty's Edge

Wow, a very promising start! :)
I am so glad luck has chosen me to participate in this pbp!

Hey guys just got home... Will post on the game thread soon, need sleep!
answers to your questions:

1)Yes fav class fighter, I think I will actually end up being a Ranger 1 Barb (1 or 2) then Fighter all the way....
2)Will add the -3 to the armor check penalty ASAP
3)I did nto see the draw back to using the overhand chop feat...I will add a line in the melee attack that states without the overhand chop feat

Still need to add a ranged weapon will do so ASAP.

Welcome home, Larcifer. Thanks for posting IC and answering my questions.

Now, get some shut-eye! :)

Female Human Cleric 1

Didn't expect to see Harrow Cards again!

Didn't expect to see one coming right at me and on fire!

Dryder, just to be sure, did you mean that Mirama's back constantly hurts or did you just mean it figuratively? And if the former, does she let it show? I'm just wondering if it's something Ikethru might be able to help with.

Malvoisin,

Spoiler:
I was wondering if this would be alright with you.

I don't know exactly how people would go around removing tattoos in this setting, but could the scorpion/demon symbols on Ikethru's wrists be unremovable? Like, it could be a permanent sign of her own guilt, or a permanent mark placed on her soul, or maybe a sort of test from Sarenrae herself(like they won't disappear until she comes to peace with her past, or something?). It just struck me as something she would really jump through hoops to get them removed if it was possible, but I love the idea of her having this permanent reminder of her past that she can't get rid of.

Liberty's Edge

I guess I should've asked before posting, but how do you want to handle stealth and perception rolls? Are you fine with us rolling or would you prefer to roll for us?

Well, you're not sure if it still hurts her. Go and ask her ;)

Valkyrie,

Spoiler:
It's totally fine with me if you want to say the scorpion tattoos are unremovable. I'm one of those DMs who doesn't necessarily need a logical (or game rules) reason for allowing certain things. Sometimes, just the fact that it's cool, or it makes the game better for all is reason enough. So, if it helps you get into your character...I'm all for it! I like the explanation that it's a divine reminder from Sarenrae. And maybe, way down the road, if you want, we could have the goddess remove the tats in a big moment of redemption or something.

Count Buggula wrote:

Yeah, anytime you guys want to initiate skill checks, please do just go ahead and roll them. It saves time. Same thing goes for attack and damage rolls.

Passive rolls like Initiative, Saves, and so forth, I'll roll for you.

It's all about whatever helps keep the game flowing smoothly.

I laughed my butt off at the description of Kara's failed attempt to help with the animals. Good show.

Count Buggula wrote:

I'm glad you liked it! I figured, given Kara's background, that rounding up a herd of spooked animals probably wasn't a strong suit. ;)

Don't feel bad. I'm sure we all have some unglorious moments with our names on them coming up. :)

Malvoisin, thanks for the go-ahead on that!

Female Human Paladin 1

I saw Erik's post in the recruiting thread. I hope he continues to look in on the game. Kinda cool.

I'm also using this as a marker post, which is why I'm posting as Martika.

This is like Clue! I think Garavel did it. He has shifty eyes...and that seems like a clever plot device. Have the person in charge of the investigation be the culprit!

Nothing except a fire has happened yet, but it's already awesome to play this. The group interactions could go on forever! I like such stuff.

I'm glad you're enjoying it, Dryder! This next phase of the game will be very role-playing heavy, so get ready.

Malvoisin, I will get my PF#19 pdf download someday next week. I will not read the adventure, but do you think it would spoil too much for me, if I read the article about the Gnolls, because I could use that info in one of my games?! But I don't want to spoil LoF myself, you know...

Dryder, I'll review the gnolls article again and let you know. As it stands, I only gave that article a cursory skim, so I'll need to double check how spoilery it is.

By the way, I really appreciate your restraint in not reading the adventure. I'm gonna do my best to make our game worth the sacrifice. :)

Hey guys awsome posting so far! As an aside I am a registered nurse and I work 12 hour shifts, so on my work days, my posting may come late, feel free to keep the game moving and I will post on those days asap!

Hey all, look for a fresh post tomorrow morning...as well as an answer to your question about the gnoll article, Dryder.

For now, must sleep. Killer day today. :)

No worries, it gives everyone a little more time to bounce off of each other!

I'm not sure if we could have learned this during the journey but if so: Does Almah and her business have any history with the slave trade? Considering over half of our characters' backstories...

Dryder: Alrighty, I read over the Gnolls article in PF#19, and I didn't see anything there that's going to spoil this campaign. Have at it, and enjoy!

Valkyrie: You know, I'd say it's very likely that the Roveshki family's business dealings in Katapesh would quite likely include some slave trading. In that city, it's just one more commodity to be bought and sold. Now, as to whether or not she ever bought or sold one of the PCs...that's another thing. It seems at this point, that might be a little uncomfortable to shoehorn in...if that's even where you were headed with this. Maybe I'm reading too much into your question. One other thing to keep in mind is that as a representative of the Pactmasters, Almah also has the authority to free a slave if she so wishes.

Mmmkay, guys, new post up IC (and man, you guys are really busting my writing chops...but that's a great thing!)

You'll notice, I'm sure, the new alias and avatar (the efreet seemed appropriate...might change when the avatar selection gets updated with some LoF goodies).

If you click on the alias, you'll see that I've posted some links to artwork and started a section for mini statblocks for the PCs (kind of an easy-reference cheat sheet for me). One of the pics hasn't been seen before, and it depicts the chaos of the fire in the camp.

My intent is to make this profile a living document, updated with links to handouts, artwork, maybe maps; and also, to track stuff like treasure, experience, maybe a 'who's who' style NPC guide. It should be a handy reference for DM and player alike, so I hope you'll find it useful and keep an eye on it.

I'll try to let you know here when I make major updates. Thanks!
