beta character sheets - why CMB calc but no attk calc spot?

General Discussion (Prerelease)

quick question

During rolling up of characters and such this week I noticed something that didn't make sense to me.

Why is it that there is a section for CMB (attack roll + str. mod + special size modifier) but not one for a normal attack (which would be the same as CMB, except with the negative-ized size modifiers)?

There's a spot for Base Attack bonus also.

Maybe because those are things that the rules refer to very often. Spot in sheet for BAB is obvious, rules refer to it from class tables to combat and to feat prerequirements. CMB is also a modifier that is referred to very often. When rules say that DC for trip is 15 + CMB, it really needs to be found from characters sheet. Now rules do tell how to calculate your normal attack, but there aren't any rules that say for example DC is 15 + normal attack or a feat prereq is normal attack +5. So while it would be useful in a character sheet, it isn't as mandatory as BAB or CMB.

I thought there was. For every weapons' section there is a box for attack. Just scribble in your attack modifier for each weapon. Monks add a slot for unarmed strike (since damage varies by level) and leave space for flurry.

OK. I guess that works. Thanks.

Or for that matter, not spot for the defensive DC for maneuvers...

Yeah, it's definetly something a sheet needs. You might find yourself with an unfamiliar weapon in hand and need your attack value without feats and weapon training and weapon bonuses and all that.

Wanna use my sheet? You find it on my site. And if you don't like it, there's plenty of other very good fan-made sheets out there!

I'm pretty sure most people can do this on the fly.

I ran my first night of this over the weekend.

No one in my group has ever played D&D past 2E, one of them is a teenager that has never played D&D, and one of them is an older guy who last played 1E about 2 decades ago until he started playing 2E with us.

So it's not a familiar formula for them or for me. I'm enjoying how easy the Pathfinder/3E stuff is and how well the character sheet is laid out, but this seems like it should be there.

We got by OK but it still seemed like there should be a spot for it, even if it has a blank spot for "other" modifiers or the like.

I'll have them use the weapon slots for now.
