What's going to happen with some of the pretty standard core class variants? I'm thinking mostly of the Urban Ranger but I've also seen things like Bardic Sage who focuses on knowledge more than music, or Savage Bards who are more Druidy, Cloistered Clerics, Wilderness Rogues, etc. All these are basically the same as core classes with slightly different skills list or different spell lists, maybe one or two abilities changed. The ones I mention are all in Unearthed Arcana. If they're not OGL, they'd be pretty easy to re-create. Somebody in another thread mentioned Swashbucklers. Really they're just Fighters with automatic Weapon Finesse and different skills.

Do any of these make it into the Pathfinder core book? Most only require about an extra paragraph. I guess my fantasy would be to see a variant for each core class, but the core book has to be pushing 1000 pages at this point. More like the core tome.

Regardless, I'd be sad to see Urban Rangers go away.

FYI: If it is in Unearthed Arcana and isn't a direct reference to an excluded monster (i.e the gith stuff, etc.), then it's open. So all of those class variants are available to Paizo.

That being said, considering how much they are already feeling the need to exclude, I would seriously doubt these would show up in the core book. Considering it is not only the Pathfinder PHB, but to a large extent the DMG as well, all of those paragraphs are probably betted devoted elsewhere.

On the positive side, however, I don't think there's been an official decision, but the general impression the Paizo staff give is that an Unearthed Arcana style book of variant rules is a very likely product down the road. So here's hoping that happens and not only included those class variants, but plenty more. Personally, I find myself in both PCs and NPCs, using those variants more often than not. So I hope they get some Pathfinder love and encouragement at some point as well.

Mosaic,

Just take the mods in UA, write them up to Pathfinder spec and voila! you get a PDF to publish ;-)

I'd love to see more urban classes and variants (as I loves me a gumshoe or other urban campaign). Problem with urban ranger was that it's not very good, so I'd like to see a better urban ranger in some future PFRPG Unearthed Arcana type of book.

The Exchange

I also love the concept of the Urban Ranger, but I also believe that the concept could be easily fulfilled with allowing Gather Information (or whatever it's called in the latest instalment of PFRPG, can't be bothered to check at the moment) checks to track people in urban settings. Thus it would be easy to remodel the Urban Ranger concept as a simple Rogue, which pretty much already fits my personal vision of an Urban Ranger.

Well, an Animal Companion is pretty cool in an urban setting, too. Also, some spells are handy. So although I can see Rogue working in the same mould, Urban Ranger could be good.
