Okay, so I just got the idea for a delightfully silly, light-hearted play-by-post. Here is the outline:
1) You must have over 1,000 posts to join.
2) I will have final say as the GM, but when I ask, a poster can act as the storyteller, in a nod to Ars Magica.
3) You can use any system, but your character must be (or be based on) your primary posting alias. Please make your character recognizable as you; we will basically be playing our messageboard selves.
4) The rules will be very loose. Interpretation and creativity will prevail. Justification of your actions is the primary way to achieve them. Invisible Castle can be used if you need too.
5) This will be absurd.
6) Post your desire to participate here. I will gauge the demand when determining when to start the game.
That's about it. I might come up with more stuff as it occurs to me.

So can I clarify...
Everyone can use different rules to play (eg. me: PFRPG Beta, seeker: WoD, derek: Shadowrun) is that correct? EDIT: That's not to say that's that's the rules everyone will be using, just as an example.
What exactly will we be doing???
I am interested, but as seeker said I am already in 7 PbPs, so as long as it really won't take up much attention.

i like it, it modernized the tech (no more decks, for one), made magic more intuitive, and made the dice conventions easier. none of the flavor is missing, but they did advance the timeline to 2070.
other than that, it plays and feels the same as old school shadowrun (and it isn't any less lethal, either).

hmmm....only 942. get back to you in a couple days ;)
That made me laugh.
And I think one day should be enough. Just check out the word games.
shoot, the only thing holding me back is i share the box with the gf :)
(in fact, she's bugging me to get on now...)

Exactly right with the rules systems. It's more up to the players to describe their actions in the system (in as much detail as you want) and the GM or storyteller will put everything together if needed.
Like I said, even if it moves quickly it shouldn't be a big deal if you don't post often. I'm going for quirky, off-beat fun here, not consistent narrative.

Why not. I'm game.
Feel free to bow out if things get to hectic for you. :)
Seems like I have a few takers. I really don't care about limiting the number of members, as the post count should help with that. In other words, as long as you announce you are joining here, it should be fine!
I'll have the PbP thread up tomorrow.

Any game rules we want? Like Car Wars? Or chess? Or Mornington Crescent?
Well, I would prefer they be RPG rules, but if you can make it work I wouldn't mind something ridiculous.
Paizochess only! ;)
For those of us having trouble getting our heads around this, fear not as you are not alone. Think of it more as a chance to let loose on a PbP with the full power of your creativity. Things will make a bit more sense when I start up the PbP (which should be sometime this weekend - still taking applicants).

I have... more posts than I thought possible... bizarre.
I am a Lord... so that makes me at least 9th Level in 1E, right?
As far as a character, now would be the perfect time to use all those games I never played... Elric!; Stormbringer; Wheel of Time; Slaine; Black Company... maybe even Alternity (which I played a little bit).

Daigle: Yes, you can be a 6ft-tall mantis.
Dev: Yes, you can play.
Kirth: You can bid against me in this thread, but you'll have to explain how it works.
Seeker: If you used FASERIP, I would give you some nice bonuses. See my shout-out in my profile! (This is only for seeker, who suggested it first!)

Kirth: You can bid against me in this thread, but you'll have to explain how it works.
You have 4 attributes: Strength, Endurance, Warfare, and Psyche, and no other numerical stats or values. All start at "Amber Rank" (about D&D score of 25 or so), for free, or you can sell them down to "Chaos Rank" (16-18) or "Human Rank" (10-12) for extra points. If you want better than Amber rank, instead of a set point buy, there's an auction: whoever bids the most establishes top ("dominant") rank and is unbeatable in that attribute, and other "rungs" are established by the lower bidders.
After the bidding war is over, whatever points you have left over are used to buy various powers like Pattern Imprint, Trump Artistry, etc. You have to understand, if you haven't read Zelazny's Amber books, that all the characters are essentially demigods, and with some experience can damage the structure of the multiverse (with a lot of experience, the could potentially destroy all of creation).

I will not never be unusing the anti-version of TIMECUBE!
All gameplay is done by rolling a cube, which gives a result of 1 through 4. (6 sides constitutes a sextet -- not a Cube. Rules that say a Cube has "6 sides" with no top & bottom induce an evil curse that pervades all role-playing games.)
All other organisms automatically lose as they cannot face the four-dimensional glory of Timecube's XYZ&-space!
I will wager $10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 to anyone to try disprove Time Cubicle.
Report for auditing, where you will be assessed for your capacity for TRUE-BEING thought. You will be exposed to your tri-partite elements of your id, because as everyone know, triangles form pyramids, and pyramids with their four sides are the harbingers of the TIMECUBE!
ALL YOU HAVE BEEN TOLD BY EDUCATED STUPIDS IS WRONG!
CUBES HAVE FOUR SIDES, AS THEY ARE SOUL-PYRAMIDS, FOLDED THROUGH TRUE-SPACE! YOU ARE BEING LIED TO!
Oh God, no, I just can't do this one justice, I'm sorry I just can't...sob
