Cacophonik

Sounds like assent to me. You up for this? If so, please feel free to assemble a character and I'll get my head around ways of introducing you.

Level 4. Mundane equipment for free. One each of a level 3, level 4 and level 5 magic item. Starting gold 840gp. Forgotten Realms, so please pick a racial quirk and associated bonus.

You'll need to have a reason to be there and a question for the White Lady as well. Anything you'd rather wasn't common pc knowledge can be spoilered up. Then it's their own fault if they choose to read it :D

Will be charactered up by tonight - I am a stay-at-home dad to a 5-month old daughter, so the daily posting shouldn't be a problem save occasionally. (and I hereby grant permission to do with me what ye will upon those occasions.

Should I be looking at a Wizard specifically, or will any Controller type do, as Commander Caine suggests?

Rev Rosey wrote:

Are you referring to a Background Region?

Human

Ah. The joy of naps with 5 month olds. At least they have them :D

Welcome.

Wizard I suspect would be the most useful fit, but take a look at the rest of the party and see what you can come up with that both amuses you and complements the rest of them. Links to all the pcs are in my DM profile.

Yes. I meant background region. Do you have access to them? The character builder lists them and the associated boosts, but if you're not a subscriber I'm not sure you'll see them.

Rev Rosey wrote:

I am indeed. Do you have access to those?

Yeppers! No restrictions on them save that I end up at Spellgard with a question, correct?

Welcome Cacophonik.

Edited my earlier post as you were posting - think we're back in sync now. No restrictions save as stated.

You might want to bear in mind that a Thayan is going to be eyed with a lot of suspicion by Brujo at least and probably others as well.

Thayan?! This makes for an interesting mix.

Human

I don't think he's necessarily going to be Thayan - was just pointing out that Brujo has big issues with Thay. Cronin won't been keen either.

Rosey: Meet Mirth, the burny, 'splodey, shadowy and pretty damn ornery fire wizard! (Now with fully-articulated Horns and Tail, for authentic infernal-bloodline portable-artillery action!)

Stats are spoilered below, since they aren't yet final - let me know what you don't like (if anything) and I shall alter ASAP. Background is in the works, but has to do with a lonely old wizard, an ill-advised theft and a tiefling with a question she never thought she'd want to ask!

Human

Oh yes. Like muchly.

Spoiler:

The flute is interesting. Get me some backstory as soon as you can so I can work out some not completely inane way of getting you here. It would be nice not to have you tied up nude behind an altar, which was the way Fabes ended up making his appearance in Rune Stones a while back.

All tieflings have some attitude, but Mirth seems to be making it a defining feature and that's just an impression based on stats and equipment list.

When you profile her up, can you make sure everything has full numbers attached to it. It's a huge pain having to look up powers if I ever have to roll for you. Looking good to me.

Will have the remainder up tonight, hopefully. Family duty at the moment, tho.

When you can - there's no huge pressure. I still need to find an elegant solution to your arrival. An inelegant one will do of course, but I'd prefer it if we can come up with something at least a little organic.

Spoiler:

Have you given an thought on how you;re going to write-out Perigia? Because I was thinking depending how she leaves Brujo may/may not follow her. The boy is smitten, though he hasn't said anything. And if she were to leave if would follow if she allowed.

I'm not bored of Brujo, but character wise she's one of the few people in the group he really feels he can trust. And would follow her anywhere

Human

Lazaro

Spoiler:

I'm not sure. I want to keep Perigia around in case David can find a way back at any time, so my thoughts at the moment are mainly that she just decides to head back to the monastery on the basis of a sudden hunch she's had. Lame, but functional. Depending on what you want to do, there are other possibilities as well. I'll email you.

Rev Rosey: Mirth's background!

Spoiler:
For the first time she could recall, Mirth was walking away from a fire she didn't start. Which isn't to say she didn't stoke it a bit - the old man deserved a much grander pyre than just the vaguely whitewashed, crookedy-eaved apothecarium they had called home, after all.

He had caught her with her hand in his coin-purse long ago, and instead of selling her to a slaver or cutting her throat had instead marched her to that selfsame building, muttering darkly about his misbegotten sense of charity and his dire need for a young, deft apprentice.

He had given her a life that wasn't rag-tag, three-copper thievery, wasn't fishbone soup for your day's only meal or a blackened eye for not turning her tricks around fast enough.

He had shown her rows of dark scratches on smooth parchment, patiently speaking them into words, then sentences, then books - how she devoured them!

He had taught her that a pinch of this and three drams of that when stirred thusly for an hour changed into Something Else, hadn't
cared if she ladled a second serving of onion broth into her bowl of an evening.

He had called her horns a glory, touching them raptly, hadn't just leered at her and charged a man extra because of them.

He had given her - when she was finally deemed ready - Fire as her servant, her weapon, her thrall. He told her to burn true and brightly, she who had always draped herself in lies and protecting shadow.

He had warned her about the Zulkirs and their cutthroats, and the staggering price they had once offered for his bald, tattooed head. He had laughed and told her not to worry, that the Dread Legions had more pressing business these days.

He had gifted her with a flute - hand carved, he said with a bashful grin, from the wingbone of a young dragonling. He couldn't teach her to play it, he admitted, but he had every confidence in her ambition to learn.

He had told her he loved her.

When the Legions had found the old man she had been at the market buying him a fine new cloak. They hadn't left much, save the coppery tang of slaughter and the gravewrought smell of the newly-risen dead.

Mirth closed her eyes and wrapped herself in hate and tendrils of gloaming. She had questions that needed answered; indeed she had much to learn before she could loose upon Thay such a fire as the Zulkirs had never seen.

She walked east out of the wretched city of Luskan, the flames a devouring corona behind her, heading to a place where the old man had said true answers could be had from a ghost...

Having a hard time finding an icon I like, and the background isn't quite as tidy as I'd like, but it should give you enough for starters.

Happy to discuss entry points and methods on the morrow, no hurry on this end either! :)

Human

Like this very much. Taking a look at the map and surrounding area for you. Unexpectedly more hectic than planned day today, but I'll try and get something for you to play with in a couple of hours.

Rev Rosey wrote:

I figure Mirth has been on the move slowly but steadily, taking jobs and making money as she can - she really will do pretty much anything to see Thay (or simply Thayans) burn... even things she hasn't done for a long time, and didn't think she'd do again.

She suspects that there is a price on her head in Luskan, and thus possible pursuit from that direction, though in her arrogance she trivializes that danger perhaps a bit too hastily.

I suppose Devlin might be a faint connecting thread, but it's a big stretch...

Human

Maybe. Devlin (as he's said) isn't Thayan. He's just a guy who takes whatever work pays him best and amuses him most. There's no passion in Devlin's soul for anything except Devlin and ready cash.

I'm getting a few ideas though. Keep posting ideas and we'll come up with something.

Just a suggestion on how we can introduce Cacophonik's character. He can be part of another adventuring group which has met with disaster and he is now the sole survivor.

Female Tiefling Wizard 6

All profiled out, I think! Let me know if you've any questions.

I'll be offline for most of the evening tonight, but will try to pop back in as I can.

Fine with the Commander's suggestion, otherwise pretty much brain-dead currently <pouts>

Male Half Elf Paladin 6th

I didn't even notice we lost a warlock so a wizard would be nice but has anyone got the phb2 yet to say whether the wizard is still the only controller?

Leo the half elven Paladin wrote:

Invoker (Divine) and Druid (Primal)are also Controllers detailed in PHB2... Both are cool to one degree or another, but Mirth was too much fun to pass up, IMO.

Am I correct in thinking that the only thing standing between Mirth and Our Heroes is a pack of (maybe not so patient or attentive)rat-Halflings, who surround the otherwise difficult-to-find entryway to the catacombs?

Is it feasible that, with a bit of hobnobbing, bluffery and sneakishness, Mirth could follow the trail of carnage blazed by Our Current Heroes, in an attempt to meet the White Lady in her lair, consequently stumbling into the scene at hand?

Not elegant, but it is hypothetically possible.

Happy to hear better suggestions from anyone, of course.

Don't imagine that y'all are planning on retreating to the monastery any time soon, maybe to escort Perigia back out to erm.. rest?

Or a freak appearance of the spell plague causes Perigia to be replaced by Mirth leaving open the sub plot of finding out what caused this to happen and where did Perigia disappear to?

Human

Plan spellplague sounds fantastic... except I'm not sure I want to start writing an alternate reality thread as well as the main thread. I'm having enough trouble with WoTCs insane nude mage trap.

The trail of carnage is a mile wide and easy to follow.

OK. How about this. Mirth can easily bluff her way past the halflings and catch up. This has the merit of speed and simplicity and need not necessarily be entirely dull.

Spoiler:
She might quite possibly offer to go down and deal with the heroes on the Darano's behalf, since they're not particularly keen on navigating the catacombs and don't know about the mile wide trail of carnage.

She proceeds with whatever thoughts that occur to her on seeing the devastation wrought, coming inevitably the to beehived mausolea. Which I might point the heroes did not investigate for a variety of reasons. She however, could well do so. Strange noises coming from place supposedly devoid of enemies should be enough to alert them all to an intruder.

Mirth then has all the fun of meeting up with whoever is escorting Perigia to wherever she wants to go.

It's not an ideal solution, but it covers most of the bases and it's quick.

Sounds good to me - set me up whenever you have time, at whatever landmark you wish, and we're good to go!

Rev:

Spoiler:

Within the catacombs, Mirth will follow the path of least resistance (in this case, also the path of most corpses, I'd imagine), operating on the (misguided?) assumption that the White Lady can be found somewhere within the tower.

She'll also proceed with due caution, slipping into the shadowy corners of the crypts at the least provocation. She may be arrogant, but she is keenly aware that she is flying solo. She'll make use of her Low-Light Vision as long as possible, then would prefer to use Light as necessary.

Human

Just getting Perigia's exit started. I'll have you in shortly Cacophonik.

Human

Mirth

Spoiler:

You found the beehive mausolea and discovered that they were (predictably) trapped. Since you have a +5 Thievery, an appropriate background and no time pressure, I'm allowing Mirth to disable those traps by defacing the runes. Doing so allowed you to enter the tombs. You mainly found rituals.

Arcane Lock
Knock
Secret Page
Eye of Alarm

You also found a piece of folded cloth which you identify as a battle standard of might:

Power (encounter); standard action.
When you place the battle standard in your space or an adjacent square, it creates a zone in a close burst 5. While within the zone, you and your allies gain a +1 power bonus to damage rolls.

The zone lasts until the end of the encounter or until the battle standard is removed from the ground. Any in or adjacent to the battle standard's square can remove it from the ground as a standard action.

You found the remains of the overnight camp site and are just contemplating whether to move on to the next room (with the desecrated altar). Did you offer to wipe out our heroes for the Darano clan?

Your welcome wagon should be along shortly. Feel free to post but spoiler until someone gets there.

Female Tiefling Wizard 6

Rev: Not entirely certain which thread is appropriate right now, so posting in both for Max Win!

Spoiler:
Rev Rosey wrote:

Mirth will stow the Rituals assuming these are scrolls and not books in her scroll case for now - she has only passing interest in them - and fold the Standard neatly for stowage in her pack, after studying the blazon upon it for any significance. History check? 1d20+11=28

Feeling quite satisfied with her fortunes so far, she'll press onward. She worries not a whit about the bloodthirsty little halflings and the promises she glibly danced around Bluff: 1d20+12=28. Their spiteful, petty wishes only coincide with her agenda in the vaguest sense, and thus carry the weight of ash and dust, drifting on the wind.

Human

Those of you that aren't aware, please welcome your new wizard. Mirth (and her first cousin mayhem) is awaiting you on the game thread.

Anyone having trouble with IC? I created ana account, but it won't let me sign in or VIP myself, etc. I've not been able to use the handy "click a line to copy" feature there for a few weeks now. Not sure if it is something on their end or on my end....

Human

IC is often my enemy. Don't worry if you can't access it. We've all home rolled from time to time. I'm not fussed particularly either way.

Hi, all. I'm at a major crunch time with both work and family, so I've asked Rev to run Cronin for a few weeks. I'm trying to avoid a slash-and-burn of my games, as I'm enjoying all of them.

Have fun, and I'll be checking in as time permits!

Hey guys my posting may be off for the next few days. I've got some more appointments coming up, plus after getting some less than joyful news my minds not in it right now.

I'm not dropping out, have to make that clear. I loveplaying with yall too much. I'm just cutting down on the posts a bit.

You take care and I hope those idiots see the light and give you the help you need!

Human

Eeesh. It sounds like tough times all around for everyone.

As long as you're all basically happy with the game itself, I'm happy to run as flexibly as we need to to keep the group together. I'm loving running both this and Savage Blight and I'll make whatever sensible concessions I can to keep everything going smoothly. Hand on heart.

Happy (very!) with the game so far, and hoping Laz can get answers and assistance, Pat gets some crunch relief and Radavel gets a very nice shingle of his own.

Best to all!

So. Pondering running a 4e adventure (a short, low-level one, perhaps from Dungeon mag) as a PBP, since the only people who game IRL near me are RPGA Min/Maxers, and I do not like them Sam I am. If it goes well, we'll see about continuing from there.

I've DM'ed PbP's before, tho it has been a while. Haven't yet DMed 4e tho, but I am not worried on that point. Would probably NOT be as fast paced a game as the honourable Rev prefers to run, but I'll do my best.

I know a bunch of y'all are tied up of late (hopefully not literally) with Really Important Things, but thought I'd mention it here for interest before going to the gamer connection boards.

More details to follow if a few of you (and/or any recommended friends you'd like to drag along) show interest. I'll grab the leftovers from the Gamer Connections forums at that point.

- Caco/Mirth/Matt

PS: Please feel free to decline if you wish - I know most of you play in many games already, so please don't hop in just because you feel obligated due to some perverse reciprocal gaming fetish or something. I won't be offended. :)

Human

You had me from "perverse reciprocal gaming fetish ".

From earlier in fact. With Pat's games on hiatus, and David's going slowly due to his commitments my game quotient just dropped.

I'd like to try out other character concepts.

Could you possibly be lured into running a short Paragon level adventure? I'd love to test drive some of the higher level stuff - no pressure at all, I'm in regardless. Or rather, since that sounds rude, I am if you want me.

I'd love to try a paragon tier adventure, for the same reason. We can certainly give it a try - if it goes b~++&#@s up, then I suppose we can re-assess.

So far I've got Radavel and Rev Rosey. If any of the rest of you prove interested, speak up in the next 24 hours - I'll post on the Gamer Connection board tomorrow evening with an open call for the remainder.

Based on my time commitments at present, I don't imagine starting before NEXT monday.

Figure on 11th level, if you'd like to get started... Races/Classes as presented in PHB/PHB2 for starters, Paragon Paths from other sources are open for discussion.
