Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

My Internet access will be intermittent until Tuesday 14 April. Fairwind will try to flank to gain combat advantage at any sensible opportunity. She will of course also Hunter's Quarry someone else if her foe falls.

OK. Assume I'll wreck havoc on your behalf if your turn comes up and you don't post fairly promptly. Fair?

Shadow Lodge

Male Human

Have you ever felt...not so fresh

Human

That's perfect in some many, many ways. Thanks for sharing. I've spat coffee on my keyboard, but it's a price worth paying :D

Human

Loot List

Scepter of Arcane Winter +2. This is a wand that operates as a +2 Wand of Shielding and a +2 Wand of Icy Rays and as such is a mightily powerful item.

+2 to attack/damage rolls and 2d6 extra damage on a crit.
Daily - standard action - Icy Rays. Range 10. One or two creatures. Int v Ref, one attack per target. On hit 1d10+ Int mod cold damage and target is immobilised to end of your next turn.
Daily - Shield - immediate interrupt, personal. +4 power bonus to AC and Reflex until the end of your next turn.

Not currently in anyone's possession, but likely to go to Mirth.

Standard of Battle - Commander Caine has this.

Longsword of changingness - Fairwind has this.

Shared Suffering Hide armour - Brujo has this.

Lifedrinker dagger +1 - Perigia has this and took it with her.

+1 magic dagger - Snaggletooth has this.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks to me as if Cronin, Leo and Caine are missing out on the goodies here. Snaggletooth is also a little short as I foolishly forgot to get Perigia to hand over her super-dagger before she wombled off to the monastery. I'll see what I can do.

Wish lists of preferred pretties would be most welcome.

Male Human Geek 10

Yeah, it should go to the wizard.

Rev

Spoiler:

If you like, I could have Snaggletooth pick Perigia's pocket before she left. He has been eyeing that dagger ever since she got it. He did not want to turn it over when she first asked him to. (if I remember correctly)

I will assemble a wishlist tonight.

my loot-
I have a dagger+1, and a bunch of silver nobody wanted, and a small bag of gold (just 20 gp, which I have spent 5gp already) a couple of sparklies nobody wanted. (the earrings from the ettercap room)

Human

Cale Noor

Spoiler:

He really did not want to hand it over, you're quite right there. Snaggle being Snaggle he might quite legitimately regard it as fair exchange for the garnet he handed over to her after the ettercap fight.

I'll leave it up to you how you want to rp that if it ever comes up. Brujo for one will not love the thought of his big crush being pick-pocketed by a comrade.

And yes, a wishlist would be very useful.

The scepter is as writ in the module and extremely powerful (two level 8 enchantments on it), so I'm looking to redress the balance a little for everyone. Wishlists can include items up to level 7/8 but as always, there are no guarantees that you will get all the stuff you want.

Female Tiefling Wizard 6

Mirth also has found these Ritual formulae: Arcane Lock, Knock, Secret Page, Eye of Alarm

Being an alchemist instead of a ritualist, she will offer them to anyone who can use them.

The Scepter. Oy. It is very nice, and a great controller-type item. Mirth will have to get her head around the thought of using a power that is not shadowy-flamey-darkness based, for sure!

That said, I feel a bit of a loot-whore, getting the sweet item so soon after arriving. >.<

Human

Take comfort from the fact that it was scheduled for Perigia.

It's precisely the type of item that would be that well guarded and Thoran is not going to be pleased that anyone other than him is wielding it.

Suitable compensation will arrive for the less fortunate.

Male Half Elf Paladin 6th

Either a cloak of resistance or some enchanted scale armour would be nice out of curiosity if its enchanted scale is there anyone in the party that can make use of a suit of scale armour?

DM:

Spoiler:
I have to ask how do you feel about the magic treasure listing process? I'm not so sure about it but would like to know your opinion on it since you seem to have a better handle on it from what I can see

hopeless

Spoiler:

I'm just working on the basis of roughly one magic item per pc for every one and a half levels. In this case, the adventure provides some magic stuff, which where appropriate I've tweaked and made more applicable.

One of the things I didn't change was the wand. The Specter Tower mages were specifically good at crafting them and it's a good and powerful item.

At the moment, I'm just trying to redress the balance for those who haven't picked up much so far. As far as the parcels go, I quite like them. They give a decent guideline - which I'm otherwise bad at - and anything in them can be replaced with something more appropriate.

Mirth doesn't really have a wishlist - as a player, I'd prefer to be surprised by something the DM thought would fit my character, as opposed to checking off items from my list as they are doled out.

YMMV, of course. ;)

Rev, this may be a bit premature, especially seeing the world of poo we are in at the moment, but are you planning on continuing this PbP/group after/if we finish, or is this a one-shot?

Human

If there are any takers, then yes, I am. The whole adventure is really a kind of extended hook, so the possibilities are certainly there.

I'm becoming a fan of building our own adventure paths. My other game started as a one shot, but the group wanted to go on. They're approaching the end of their second outing and I'm already making plans for them.

Male Half Elf Paladin 6th

I suspect we'd all be interested if that was possible

I'd definitely be interested, as I enjoy the group dynamic and Mirth as a character. Hopefully she makes it out of this pickle in one piece!

Human

Thank you! I'm entirely up for it :D Mayhem is my motto.

I have to say I'm not the biggest fan of most of the adventures I've seen so far, so I might indulge in some major tinkering. As you all know, I tend to mess about severely with adventures as they are writ because pbp has its own quirks. The main one being pace, so I do tend to ruthlessly amalgamate encounters, cut out entire sections and award lots of XP to compensate.

You're within reach of the end of this one. What happens next depends to some extent upon yourselves and the questions you ultimately ask Lady Saharel should you find her. I'll certainly use anything you throw my way to guide the next adventures of anyone who wants to continue.

Rev Rosey wrote:

I had the same problem when I was looking for stuff to run. I liked a few of the new dungeon adventures, but the bulk of them were not to my liking, being more like the new delve format. The published modules that I have access to didn't much impress me, tho y'all almost ended up in the Trollhaunt warrens, just 'cause I like trolls.

I would've loved to tackle (and may yet!) Scott Betts' RotRL conversion, but felt it was a bit ambitious for my first PbP in a long time.

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

I won't be continuing with Fairwind; she'll go off and do her wilderness guide bit once this shebang is over.

I'll give her a lovely exit. She'll be missed for sure.

I suspect we may lose Cronin as well, due to Pat's time commitments, but obviously I don't want to speak for him.

That might be fun. I've been toying with converting an AP to 4e, but I know I'll tamper way too much for purists, so I've been resisting it. That and it would be a ton of work, which I don't really have time for at the moment.

Anyway, for those that want to continue, I'm happy to do so. We can always advertise for additional players if we feel we need them for balance.

Yes, likely. I think my schedule will ease up sometime around January . . .

It's not going to be that bad after May 1, but I can only keep up so many games I run + fast-paced games I play in. I prefer fast-paced games, but I'm way behind on everything but Blight (because Vel is really easy to play!).

Male Human Geek 10

Snaggletooth is a wildcard. I could see him continuing as it presents the best possiblity for spoils and experience, but if Cronin and Fairwind are out, and he rescues Kneebiters and other kobolds, he may be on his way to starting his own band. He doesn't have the strongest relationship with Leo or Caine and Brujo is openly antagonistic to him, so the "stick with your friends" angle is probablt out. Too bad, too. I do enjoy my scaly little thief. :)

Wishlist:

Spoiler:
Snaggle likes things that make him more sneaky, more thiefy, or more brutal in combat.
ex.
leather armor+2
amulet of protection+2
flaming dagger+1
elven cloak+2
boots of spider climbing
duelist dagger+2
lifedrinker dagger+1
burglar's gloves
bag of holding
knifethrower's gloves
reading spectacles

Male Human Geek 10

I would be glad to continue with a new character, tho, when this is done. Maybe a fighter or archer, or a halfling cleric (of Sune :) )

Human

Either option makes sense for Snaggletooth.

I'll have a hunt around and get some ideas together for you all. There seems to be enough interest from three of you in either your current or present form and that's plentifully good enough for a start.

Once my Arcane Power book arrives, I'll likely have some new options for Mirth, though I don't think she'll be changing greatly - a little bit of retraining should do the trick.

Human

Certainly. Tweakage is entirely permissible.

Male Half Elf Paladin 6th

I'm hoping Leo survives but I'd still be interested its been quite fun and I'm actually trying to be witty too!

Female Tiefling Wizard 6

I'm afraid that if we let Devlin escape, we'll be in worse shape within minutes.

As far as continuing, I am game for a restart if we have a TPK, since Fabes and Cale seemed to indicate they were looking at retiring their current characters. I have no shortage of character ideas I'd like to try.

Human

I'm betting you make it, but if you do go down, I'll grovel and see what I can do to resolve it all.

Cale is in the most trouble, but it's not impossible.

Leo has certainly been in fine verbal form and Mirth's latest antics have cleared the ground a bit. You also have the kobolds coming in on your side now, which may well buy you some time to regroup. They do not like seeing Snaggle go down.

This is a horrible fight for you all and it went pretty much the wrong way for you from the start. Devlin is just opportunistic and extremely good at his job, which is basically riling people up. Do bear in mind that he's got no axe to grind, isn't particularly interested in anything other than himself and money and will ALWAYS run if he's losing. No fanatic he.

Oh yes thats why I like the idea of him being a recurring villain, but we'll see if he survives the adventure too!

Human

He's just been humiliatingly thumped on the nose by a kobold.

Male Half Elf Paladin 6th

Yes when I ran the keep on the shadowfell to test the waters of 4e with some friends I had to admit a group of kobolds is a very dangerous foe indeed!

And a couple of weeks ago they found out hobgoblins are much worse!

Funny enough the only surviving enemy from the three encounters I ran a fortnight ago is a goblin hexer who was rather effective having blinded three of the Pcs with the fourth incapacitated even though they managed to defeat a group of hobgoblins in the process!

A tough fight but it showed a flaming sphere is a nifty spell in a tight fight especially when its cast behind the front line of the enemy!

Anyone heard about dire destiny?

Dire Destiny

The elf in this webcomic is my idea of what a fey warlock could be!

Male Human - dash of elf Miniature painter/ Heroic

I used to read Dire Destiny - I'd forgotten all about it!

Male Half Elf Paladin 6th

To me its strikes me as a good 4e story, the guy I think is a paladin or a multiclass fighter with either cleric or paladin leanings the othe rguy with the contraption is some kind of wizard what with his need for a focus and that spellbook with the elf I originally thought a druid but she feels more like what I'd see as a fey warlock and whn i ran that game two weeks ago and the player running the genasi fey warlock was casting eldritch blast I described it using dire destiny as a guide since his character was part of an elven ambassadorial team who with the elven ranger PC was scouting the catacombs of a city that was under siege to find a safe route out via a secret trail that leads somewhere clear.

I still go back and check on that site to see if its been updated as the story is still quite catchy, hopefully one day I can pick up the trade but thats a long way off at the moment.

Human

Just doing a little housekeeping as we're closing in on the final stretch of this adventure.

Ongoing in one form or another:
Cacophonik - probably as Mirth
Cale Noor - possibly as Snaggletooth, but much depends on (a) survival and (b) composition of group.
hopeless - probably as Leo

Losing
Fabes
Pat

Yet to declare
Lazaro
Radavel

If you could just keep me posted if any of your intentions change I'd be most grateful. I'm starting to construct possible links into future adventures, so any help would be gratefully received.

From this you will gather that my DM money is still on you getting out of your current predicament more or less alive.

Shadow Lodge

Male Human

Oh, I thought I already answered the question. I'll be staying on :)

Dark Archive

If possible, I want to rebuild Caine into a fighter or a bravura warlord.

Guys, I will not be able to post in the next few hours. Gonna watch the Pacquiao Hatton fight. You know the fight is very much anticipated that traffic disappears and crime rates drop here in my country.

Shadow Lodge

Male Human

Rev question. When we continue would it be possible for us to use the new hybrid rules?

Human

Hybrid rules. Probably, but not until I've read them properly and know how they work.

Rad - enjoy the fight. I'll move Caine along for you in that case.

Looks like we have five, which is just fine. It seems to me that Leo or Mirth (or both) will be the links into your next venture, but I'll see how it pans out. Depending on what kind of party balance we end up with, I'd like to keep the door open for recruiting a sixth if we need that for balance.

Ranged 10; One object or unoccupied square;
[b]Effect:
You cause a sound as quiet as a
whisper or as loud as a yelling or fighting creature
to emanate from the target. You can produce
nonvocal sounds such as the ringing of a sword
blow, jingling armor, or scraping stone. If you
whisper, you can whisper quietly enough that only
creatures adjacent to the target can hear your words.

Light (At-Will, Minor) * Arcane
Ranged 5; One object or unoccupied
square.
Effect: You cause the target to
shed bright light. The light fills the target’s
square and all squares within 4 squares of
it. The light lasts for 5 minutes. Putting out
the light is a free action.

a new light, your previously cast light
winks out.

Mage Hand (At-Will, Minor) * Arcane, Conjuration
Ranged 5
Effect: You conjure a spectral, floating hand in an
unoccupied square within range. The hand picks up, moves, or
manipulates an adjacent object weighing 20 pounds or less and
carries it up to 5 squares. If you are holding the object when
you use this power, the hand can move the object into a pack,
a pouch, a sheath, or a similar container and simultaneously move
any one object carried or worn anywhere on your body into your
hand.
As a move action, you can move the hand up to 5 squares.
As a free action, you can cause the hand to drop an object it is
holding, and as a minor action, you can cause the hand to pick up
or manipulate a different object.
Sustain Minor: You can sustain the hand indefinitely.
Special: You can create only one hand at a time.

Aegis of Shielding (Encounter, Minor) * Arcane
Close burst 2; One creature in burst;
Effect: You mark the target. The target remains marked
until you use this power against another target. If you
mark other creatures using other powers, the target is
still marked. A creature can be subject to only one mark
at a time. A new mark supersedes a mark that was already
in place.
If your marked target makes an attack that doesn’t
include you as a target, it takes a –2 penalty to attack
rolls. If that attack hits and the marked target is within 10
squares of you, you can use an immediate interrupt to reduce
the damage dealt by that attack to any one creature
by 7.
Special: you regain the use of that
power when its target drops to 0 hit points or when the
power’s mark is superseded by another mark.

Swordmage Warding
While you are conscious and wielding either a light
blade or a heavy blade, you maintain a field of magical
force around you.
This field provides a +1 bonus to AC, or a +3 bonus
if you are wielding a blade in one hand and have your
other hand free (not carrying a shield, an off-hand
weapon, a two-handed weapon, or anything else).
If you become unconscious, your Swordmage
Warding benefit disappears. You can restore it by
taking a short rest or an extended rest.

Second Wind (Encounter) * Healing
Spend a healing surge and regains 13 hit
points. Gain a +2 bonus to all defenses until
the start of its next turn.

Fey Step (Encounter, Move) * Teleportation
Teleport 5 squares.

Eladrin Will
You gain a +1 racial bonus to your Will
defense.
In addition, you gain a +5 racial bonus to saving
throws against charm effects.

Spellscarred Susceptibility
A spellscarred creature takes a –2 penalty
to all defenses and saving throws against
the Spellplague and the same penalty against
plaguechanged or spellscarred creatures.

Spellplague Sense
A spellscarred creature knows when an area
of Spellplague, or a plaguechanged or spellscarred
creature, is within 5 squares of him or her.

OK. I've looked at the Hybrid rules and I'm fine with anyone who wants to use them doing so.

My one proviso is that everyone takes a good long look at the new stats as these rules are a work in progress. I also reserve the right to veto them if they look as if they are unbalancing the game or rendering anyone ineffective - by no means impossible.

If anyone would like to see the rules, and doesn't have access to them let me knoe and I can send'em your way.

For what it's worth, I think the original 4e system worked just fine for Multiclassing, at least based on the hybrid rule bits I have read. This strikes me a bit more like "We need something new for PHB3 besides the bizarre plant people!"

Mirth, please stop undermining my commands. He is gone. And I don't want DM-controlled kobolds leaving the room and our influence. Yes, we will be in a world of hurt, but we cannot stop him at this point. Better to win this battle and rest up for the next one.

Just wondering who elected you the boss, IC or OOC? What's wrong with NPC's leaving our (your?) sphere of influence? Do we need all 10 unarmed kobolds cluttering the battlefield to deal with a pair of crepers and a pair of ettercaps? And who says we'll get to rest, if he nabs reinforcements from the floor above?

From a RP perspective and from my personal tactical viewpoint, I did what I thought best (as did you), and I will continue to do so regardless of your approval or lack thereof. I would expect you to do the same.

Male Human Geek 10

Don't get so mad. I am not. You have every right to do whatever you want with your character and if you think that was a valid strategy, then by all means, go for it. HOWEVER, that being said..... Taking the action off screen is a bad idea. Devlin wasn't even bloodied, last I checked. The idea that two low-level kobolds are going to take him out is ludracris. But they serve a great role here in this room: as buffers. As long as they are here, they take hits that could be directed at us. And as both your character and mine can attest, these ettercaps hit hard and the creepers blind us when they die. Keeping a buffer is a good idea since neither of our characters is a bastion of hp or very solid in melee.

I just got a little frustrated because you took a completely different tack and it seemed like you were contradicting me. Here I am, one of their own, appealing to them as a brother and as a fellow kobold to fight for their freedom. Then you appeal to their baser natures and talk about revenge and drinking their blood or something like that. I was doing Braveheart and you were doing something else. Ultimately, I don't think either course was strong enough to be effective soon enough and if we face these guys again, we need to wall up and advance on them as a group.

Yes, I felt engaging the kobolds was my idea and as one of their own, also felt I had the best chance to influence them. That is not necessarily true, but that is what I felt. Sorry for acting like the big chesse. I keep trying to stay back and play it safe, but the situation seems to call for Snaggletooth to charge in and try to take someone out. This initiative tends to make everyone react to Snaggletooth's brash action and has led us into trouble on more than one occasion. I will try to dial it down. depending on how this combat plays out, Snaggletooth could be done, anyway. His goal has always been to rescue his friend. Once he has done so, his zeal for this quest will take a hit. Especially if he has a new band of kobolds to lead.

Sorry for hopping on ya.

Human

Pizza break.

Neither of you is doing anything wrong that I can see, you're just playing (rather well) two very different characters.

Just so you 're aware how I'm playing this myself:-

I do not know what will happen yet. My position is always to try and respond to events in a way which makes some kind of sense.

In this particular case, it seemed reasonable that the two kobolds closest to Devlin would follow him and try to get one last hit in. Realising they're on their own, they will be back since they're not dumb and Kneebiter has just come back to life.

The kobolds are always going to be more likely to follow the suggestions of another kobold, but if you'd just planted a successful punch on someone who'd killed your friend, you'd follow and try to get a measure of revenge as a parting shot.

Devlin is bloodied and has been for the last couple of rounds. He runs when he's dropped below bloodied. (I'm looking at changing the colour coding as I realise it's not the easiest thing in the world to see on a crowded map.)

One thing I can say is that although I'll always try and challenge you, I won't cheat you either. If players come up with something outside the strict remit of the encounter and I think it will work (in this case the entirely successful attempt to get the kobolds on side), I'll run with it using the dice as a guide.

Cale, if Snaggle hadn't been in the mix, you would essentially have had no chance of changing their minds.

Apologies for the essay, just wanted you to know that I'm not actually out to get any of you and I do know this is a very tough fight.
