Wood. Just doing two coats with a floor and porch paint. Why?
Fishes for free paint tips ...
I was asked about a good concrete paint and was hoping for a review.
My painting tips would be:
-Get someone else to do it (I hate painting because I'm too sloppy to do it well)
-Mask the area and spray it (wear breathing protection and old clothes) instead of using a brush; second choice is a roller (use a small one for small areas)
-If you use a roller, you may wish to use a brush (without adding paint) to go over what you just rolled. A roller leaves a slight texture to the job which does not match the texture of a brush and does not blend well. Going over the roller-applied paint leaves a brush-stroke texture, which can be touched up without looking odd. (this is more important on trim or a wall than on basement stairs)
-Be sure anything you're painting is solid before painting (it sucks to screw up the job you just did because of a bad piece of wood or stripped bolt)
-Use a water soluble caulk (to simplify cleanup) and allow it to completely dry before painting (do not use 100% silicone caulks- they are evil; silicone added are ok, but tend to stay rubbery which may not work for all cases)
-Use the correct roller (too thick a nap may speed coverage, but increases the mess)
-With some paints, two regular coats are better than one thick coat
-And of course, paint going out of the area, not going in (unless you want to be stuck until the paint drys)

Of course, why would I want to be stuck in my basement with a box of Pathfinders? Why would I want to tell my wife "Sorry, honey, I can't help with toilet training our little dragonslayer today; I've painted myself into the basement."?
Actually, I did every other step. Once they dry I'll do the other steps.

Smart. I'll remember that trick.
One less excuse I can use to spend the day in the basement with my beta pdf.
Oh, and thanks for the tips; I didn't mean to be ungrateful.
Cosmo ... Did they leave you in the warehouse instead of taking you to Gen Con because you're not a real boy? If you were a real boy instead of a ... a ... robot? ... would they take you with them?

....but the Navy would just fall apart without me.
And the Air Force compute networks would be hacked to oblivion with out me!!
Of course once I go to Gen Con UK........

Playing STAP today, 4e tomorrow, running RotRL Sunday. Besides that I'll mostly be practicing the mantras that will hopefully get me through work next week without going crazy in anticipation of my birthday/OH's birthday/Hamlet and 5 star guest house in Stratford/Gen Con UK
Life is pain! :P
(seriously, sorry this is probably gloaty, but best. Birthday. Ever. I'm ridiculously excited, even if combined with everything Paizo's brought out it's going to leave me near-destitute for a few months even with parents contributing towards it as their birthday present :D)

Guess who just forgot and stepped on the wrong steps.
I told my wife yesterday about your idea to paint alternate steps. She agreed it was a cool idea but said it wouldn't work for me because I would forget and use the wrong steps. (She's right)
GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE!
No worrys on the painting advice- I just repeated things I've either done wrong or that good painters have told me. And I'm not thin-skinned about anyone listening to me about something I'm not good at. Now, if you tell me a character is done wrong because I didn't opptimize it with multiple splat books ...(that's irritating enough that I have to take a break and calm down before responding with a 'thank you but no'.)

Well, as long as you have your priorities straight. ;-)

I dunno if anyone else brought this up elsewhere on these boards, but IMO GenCon was smaller this year than in years past.
I say "smaller" because it seemed so for a number of reasons:
1) Gamers. There were not the teeming crowds and masses of gamers that i'm used to having to navigate. Saturday was crowded (somewhat as expected) but Thursday and Friday were noticibly thinner than in years past.
2) Venders. Wow, the exhibit hall was not nearly as crowded with venders this year. Wizards showed up with a pitiful booth compared to last year and even two years ago and were only demoing Magic, D&D minis, and maybe another game or two (unless i missed them elsewhere). Paizo seemed to have a slightly larger area for demoing and display than in years past (if i am remembering correctly). The most disturbing trend, however, was the ratio of video game display booths to ALL OTHERS. I'd hazard a guess that software companies like blizzard, EA, and Sony took about 1/4 of the entire exhibit hall. They were mostly lumped together in one quadrant of the hall and maybe that skewed my perception in comparison but the video game presence was more noticible than ever.
3) Me. This was my third year in a row and maybe the novelty has worn off, maybe i'm just getting old, or maybe it's just that i know what to expect from that convention. For whatever reason, it just wasn't as exciting as in years past. I slept for more hours at the convention this year than in the two previous years combined (about 8 hours sleep for three nights). I'm sure that was a contributing factor.
4) Big Bad End Product (BBEP). Finally, I can't think of one NEW or upcoming tabletop blockbuster product that was being promoted heavily this year. If so, what was it? I missed it as a casual fan and if I missed it, i guarentee that many others like me missed it also.
Anyway, for those of you who went, hope you had a great time...for those who didn't, drop by next year!
As ever,
ACE
