Not '80s movie, per se, but '80s series - Shadow Warriors with Shinichi "Sonny" Chiba as Hattori Hanzo is totally rocking my world right now. Nevermind the cheesy music, it's got boobies AND ninjas in it (and even ninja boobies)! I feel an urge to draw lots of ninjas.

The Exchange

Repo Man

Silver Crusade

Goonies
Highlander
Indiana Jones
Star Wars (Eps V and VI)

The Neighbors (1981). Staring John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd.

This movie reminds me of my subdivision.

Yea, that film rocked in some filthy cup way.

The Karate Kid
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Fire and Ice (a really cool prehistoric animated film with amazing animation)
Excalibur
Willow

Scarab Sages

Oooooh!!!

Real Men with John Ritter and Jim Belushi :D

Scarab Sages

Caveman with ringo star.

Dark Archive

My wife and I are throwing out Goonies references left and right this week, but its probably because we are vacationing on Coastal Oregon. Stayed the night at Cannon Beach, where several scenes were filmed. Great movie.

Side note: the place we stayed at had a library of several hundred movies that guests could borrow for free. I asked the girl about The Goonies--it seems that they have about a dozen copies of that one because it is the most requested movie at the inn.

Groundhog's Day was late 80's wasn't it?

And who could forget the ultimate in Val Kilmer: Top Secret. Holy God I love that movie.

And I can't believe no one has mentioned The Nightmare of Elm Street series. Tsk tsk, really.

Or Gremlins! Ugh! I am highly disappointed in you people.

Scarab Sages

Brewster's Millions.

Great comedy with a heart - the cornerstone of '80's comedy. Very underrated and oft overlooked.

Got to go with Naked Gun Series. Also, wasn't Groundhog Day made in the 90's? Of course the Ninja Turtles Series are classic movies and my personal fav...SPACEBALLS!

Yeah, Groundhog Day was 1993. As for my most-watched 80s movie;

Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure

It wasn't until the Peter Jackson LotR came out it got overtaken as my most-watched ever...

I grew up in this decade, so there are too many for me to name. Probably the best one I remember that anyone who was not preeteen in the early 80's has never heard of was Midnight Madness . Not a very good movie by any stretch of the imagination, but still a lot of fun. It features David Naughton (from the Dr Pepper ads in the late 70's early 80's) and Michael J Fox in his first role. The movie is one of those screwball comedies that were prevalent in the era, but with none sex and vulgarity that characterized just about every other comedy of the era, thus making it perfect for my age group.

The plot revolves around a game (don't remember what it is called) run by a nerd named Melio. He arranges for 5 competing teams each made up of a particular stereotype (i.e. the nerd team, the jock team, the man hating female team, etc) to race around the city to particular locations where they will have to complete a certain task or obtain a clue that, when deciphered, leads them to their next destination, et cetera until they reach the finish line It's a lot like the Amazing Race with larger teams and a smaller travel budget.

HBO ran this movie at least every day back in the early 80's, so me and my brother and sister pretty much had the dialogue memorized. It's been ages since I've seen it, so I put it on my Netflix queue. Now that I've read this thread, I have definitely got to check out Night of the Comet as well! Thanx for the recomendation!

Scarab Sages

Having just watched it yesterday, I'd like to amend my previous list to include "The Blues Brothers". This is the best movie I have seen in a long time. Hilariously funny, Awesome music and a lot of car crashes and destroyed property. Everyone should watch this at least once.

Sovereign Court

I just watched Beetlejuice last night and I love that movie. I wish the cartoon would come out on DVD.

Liberty's Edge

I feel the need to smite this thread with Mega-Cheese 80's Ultimate Devastation Combo!

Sorry. I just watched this tonight, and realized the Game Master's name is Leon, not Melio. Melio is Harold's annoying party member who has some of the funniest lines in the movie.

I watched Hawk the Slayer over and over again nearly every time they played it in heavy rotation on the cable movie channels. For those unfamiliar, here are two minutes of AWESOME!

I recently picked up a copy of Hawk the Slayer on DVD. I honestly thought that it was awesome and I can't believe that I missed that one back in my teenage years.

I almost grabbed up a copy of it about a week ago, the local Target actually has it!

Target... *sigh* yea, I spent a good amount of time there in the DVD section. ...has the 20th Anniversary of the movie, which has 4 episodes of the cartoon on it.

Wow! My favorites from that time are quite lengthy... having also grown up watching large quantities of HBO probably didn't help much....

  • Stripes
  • Spies Like Us
  • Ghostbusters
  • Better Off Dead
  • One Crazy Summer
  • Predator
  • Aliens
  • Tron (saw in the theater)
  • Indiana Jones 1-3
  • Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back (saw in the theater)
  • Jaws 3-D (saw in the theater)
  • Karate Kid 1-3

  • I know I am going to get into a lot of trouble for this, but I quite like ...

    Xanadu

    Olivia Newton-John was SOOOO Hot!

So many movies, but not one mention of Flash AAAA-aaahhh! Gordon?

Soundtrack by Queen, Max Von Sydow as Ming the Merciless, and the sheer joy that is Brian Blessed as King Vultan?

The Lost Boys was one of my favorite vampire movies. (I'm a complete sucker for vampire movies. I saw The Lost Boys in the theater six times... I also love movies with great soundtracks.)

Near Dark and Vamp are also fun '80s vampire movies.

Lots of great movies form this generation. I agree with a dozen or more excellent choices from the above list, from goofy stuff like Xanadu and Flash Gordon, directly above, to comedy classics like Airplane and Better Off Dead and The Secret of My Success, to action / horror / franchise stuff like the first Indiana Jones, Highlander, Predator, The Thing and Aliens movies.

    Scarab Sages

Airplane, The Naked Gun, Beetlejuice, and Edward Scissorhands.

The golden ages of both the Zucker brothers and Tim Burton.

The 1980s were the beginning of a terrible new era in politics...but a fantastic time for pop-culture.

    Let's not forget UHF!

    Sovereign Court

    pee wee's big adventure

"tell em large marge sent ya!"

Anyone remember The Further Adventures of Tennessee Buck?

I would not say it is a "great" movie, but it did have Kathy Shower.

I would really like to find the uncut version of this movie.
