We're in the home stretch here with the Pathfinder Campaign Setting hardcover. I'm currently working on the pronunciation guide that's going into the appendix, and there's one word in particular that is a little vexing to me...
Kostchtchie.
I know how I say it. But I'm having a hell of a time, for some reason, finding a pronunciation online.
But what about everyone else?

I simply say "kost-chee."
However, I found an appendix of Grayhawk dieties with him in it, where the pronunciation was given as (KAHST-ch-chee).

COAST-chee-ay. With a pretty slurred, drawled stop between the first and second syllables.
Of course, since I pronounce "barfly" as "BARF-lee" if I'm not thinking about it, the above should be taken with a grain of salt.
If I remember that old Dragon Magazine cover with him, it was pronounced;
Smash! Crunch! Ouch!
Names like this are the reason that I tend to rename things in my game. I had a b!%#~ of a time with some of the names in Savage Tide. Some of the names looked like someone had gotten drunk and slapped their keyboard. It's like alot of drow names.
Anyone out here in Paizoland speak Russian? That might help.

Depending on the situation I either pronounce it Coazch-Tchee
or Bob
Depending on the situation.
Simple. I don't.
It's the same way I handle any big names I find hard to pronounce. The "Bob" rule of DMing. Sure, it may hurt immersion, but I have a pyro Menards manager and his ditzy 14 year old daughter in my playgroup. I need to keep their attention any way I can, and fancy names don't do it.

I was thinking about this only a couple of days ago as I was revisiting, among other things, the Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth as prep for a campaign set in/around Irrisen.
As the name comes from Koschei I wanted to preserve the Ko- start to the name and the -she ending, so I've gone with a pronounciation based on that : Ko-stuh-she
If I didn't want to keep the Ko- and -she I'd probably go with: Kos-chuh-chee

Someone mentioned Russian. What does this world have to do with Russian? Yes, I'm aware that his origin story is "inspired" by Koschei the Deathless.

Does anyone remember the episode of "WKRP" where Les Nessman pronounces "Chi-Chi Rodriguez" as "CHY CHY rod-ri-GWEEZ"? That's what this thread reminds me of.

I just want you to know that my players and I are incredibly grateful that you guys are putting a pronunciation guide in the game as well.
You wouldn't believe the arguments we've had on how to pronounce the names of various cities and monster.

For the record, I pronounce it koss-chuh-chee as listed in Dragon magazine.

I'd probably try to pronounce it as "Kosh."
I've always pronounced it as Kos Chet See myself. Sometimes I put a little extra Russian in the Chet making it more like ZChet.

In my games, when my players have encountered Kostchtchie, they've always addressed him as, "AAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!"

eh in my opinion you're better of just respelling the dang name as every time my players come across a dificult name they just change it to something simpler. Even with a pronunciation guide they'll ignore it to say something simpler
while kost chic chee might be the closest to acurate (or whatever you use as a three part name)
players'll wind up calling it kotch key anyways so I'll just go with kotch key as my pronunciation.
The figure is loosely based on Koschei the deathless, and that I could tell you how to pronounce (though, frankly, it's pretty self explanatory from the spelling). They added (for no apparent reason) some extra consonants ... that could have been simply a poor attempt at transliteration. Hard to tell.
I would go with Co (as in coworker) shay (ends like day) and forget about the nuances of pronouncing the russian sh sound correctly... a simple "sh" is close enough (technically, the "sh" is probably palatalized, which would explain the extra consonants, and means you should pronounce it as if your tongue was stuck to the roof of your mouth by peanut butter. I know, sounds crazy, but that's how my russian teacher taught me, and she's (quite literally) one of the best teachers of russian language in the country).

I should note, my biggest frustration with the Dragon pronounciation guide is that they got the pronounciation of Baba Yaga wrong... so I'm really not trusting it so much with Russian inspired names.

In my uneducated opinion, I like this one because it sounds well-reasoned and easy to pronounce.
Also, I have a strong bias against proper names with several syllables in a row that don't contain vowels. Koldoon's pronunciation allows me to ignore a bunch of 'em.

I think that's how I pronounced it the first time I said it aloud from the first edition Monster Manual II. No idea if I had it right at the time, but that how I said it.
