Oh, for the love of...
The beta will be a COMPLETE RULE BOOK. The Alpha *only* contains things that have changed in an, apparently failed, attempt to prevent confusion.
Will it also be indexed?...because I enjoy that type of thing.
Indexes please!
and a free map....and a pony.
I need to stop drinking so much coffee during the day.

You know, it doesn't hurt to ask. Sorry that I offended you. You can come down from your PONY now.
Sheesh.
^^FIXED!

No worries folks.. the Beta will have spells lists (much to the detriment of my sanity). As for an index, we shall see.

Thanks much, Jason.
Might I ask a gift horse in the mouth? One thing that is grossly lacking on spell lists is what sort of components are required for casting, i.e., v, s, m, d/f. I find that having these information handy is most useful for gaming ... especially when I describe how my character casts his spell.

As for the Spell Lists will it just be comprised of the spells in the Pathfinder Beta PDF? Or will it also include Spells from PHB and Spell Compendium? I'm not asking if the full detail of those spells will be there, just if they will be listed in the list? Maybe an asteric next to them referring to a side bar stating what book the spell is from?
Thanks!

Ah, Azoun - a magnificent question. (God, I'd love a spell list complete with the spells from the Spell Compendium. But I suspect that Paizo can't go that far, since the Spell Compendium isn't OGL.)
A previous poster (non-Paizo) ensures that the Beta will be complete with all the rules you need to play. (Granted, I haven't read Paizo say the same, but this isn't to say it isn't true and they haven't.) Accordingly, the Beta should have a complete set of ALL spells and the spell lists should be complete.
In this context, the difference between the Beta and the final release will be the result of mistakes, amendments, and the like.
But maybe a reassurance from Paizo - will the Beta be complete? Will it completely replace the PHB and DMG as our sole reference tool?

For me, the lack of a good index in a rulebook can be a deal-breaker unless there is a e-version that I can sick Goggle upon. I wouldn't be too worried if the beta document lacks an index, but come August 2009 I'd question the production values if a comprehensive index was not included.
As for the spell lists, it would be great to see components abbreviated behind the spell names. I manually add these to the spell lists on my players' character sheets but it's a real chore having to look them up even using online tools.
Similarly, data that is handy to see at-a-glance is whether or not Spell Resistance applies, the save used, duration, range, and area of effect. That's probably too much info to squeeze into the spell lists, but I thought that Lisa mentioned (in another thread) that some e-tools were in the works — the ability to see/sort/search by such spell parameters would be very handy when determining what to learn or memorize...
BTW: Do cleric domains now *only* bestow granted powers, or do they bestow granted powers *plus* a list of bonus spells?

Has anyone come up with their own editable spell sheets?? Like on a word doc or something.
For spell sheets I would like to see them go back "Old School", like the old 1st AD&D sheets that listed casting time, method, components, saves and to include pg number referrence to where the spell is at.
I prefer the ease of having majority needed info right there, so i'm not wasting game time looking up the spell in the book.

If you have a PDF editor, this might be of us:

Beta, yes. PHB and SC, no.
No PHB because the Beta will contain everything from the PHB that is meant to be in there, so if it's not in Beta, it's not supposed to be used.
No Spell Compendium because that's closed content, and they can't refer to it.

Oh, please make an index happen. I realize that they can be a pain to compile, but an index really is an essential tool for a RPG rulebook.

It used to be that I would screen any new books based on whether or not an index was present. No index, no buy. That has obviously had its share of exceptions if the material was truly good despite the absence of an index. :) I think that's the category into which Pathfinder will fall, so I'm on-board index or no - but that's mainly because I know there will be an electronic version that is fully searchable. Still, though, if I happen to be gaming in deepest, darkest Africa and don't have my laptop with me, an index would be nice... :)

This is great news! I see the Geas is working perfectly.... er... um... (cough)... I mean... ah rats shouldn't have said that! LOL
Seriously - I have always used the spell lists in the past (Very handy) from other books and its good to know that Pathfinder will have em too! Even though some of us were wondering if they were going to be added at all!
I look forward to the Beta! (Rubs hands together in anticipation) ;)

Jason wasn't suggesting that the final product might not have an index—just that there may not be time to do it for the beta.
