According to his website, he was found dead at home yesterday afternoon.
Maybe he wasn't as open & obvious a contributor to gaming as Gary Gygax or John M Ford, but I know a lot of people who shamelessly cribbed from Myth Adventures and Thieves' World for their campaigns. He'll be missed.
I remember TW and Myth when they first came out and devouring them. I got to meet Mr. Asprin at a few cons back then, he was a great fellow. Heavy Sigh.
He'll be missed. My condolences to his family.
"Little Myth Marker" was one of the first fantasy books I ever read.
::Tips a 40 to Skeeve, Aahz, and the rest of the crew::
Started with the "Tales from the Vulgar Unicorn" in high school (hard to tell why...) Read most of those and loved them more than most of the fantasy I was reading. Got the graphic novels after that (with AWESOME Tim Sale art!) and finally started the Myth books later. Loved first 3-4 and read a couple more after that...seems like I stopped on the planet of vampires one.
Rest in peace, Robert.
Damn! Another one of the Greats bites the dust! ~sighs~ I so loved his Myth books. ~wry smile~ Hell, they almost killed me one time. I was sitting in the parking lot of the local community college after having just ate at Burger King. I was reading one of his books while drinking some sweet tea through a straw. ~grins~ Then I hit a funny part. ~shakes my head in dismay~ Never! Never, never, never drink while trying to laugh! ~chuckles~ I think I amost passed out as the entire dinner ended up coming out the way it came in. Through both my mouth and nose. Gah! That was scary for a minute!
This is a real loss. I loved Thieves World, which was my first regular fantasy series all those years ago in elementary school. A toast to his work and his shade.
BTW, this is my 666th post. YAY!
Wow.
I think I actually named a wizard The Great Skeeve.
I have nothing but fond memories of Robert Asprin's work.
He will be missed.
So long, and thanks for all the thieves.
He wrote some of my all-time favorite stories in dark fantasy and also in comedic fantasy. A truly versatile, gifted entertainer.

This is really sad. I love Skeeve & Co.
One of my first books from the SciFi Book Club was an omnibus of the Myth Adventures. I loved that series. And then, my wife introduced me to Phules Company. Oh, so good.
So, here's to the Greatest Pervect of all.....
Thieves' World!
Rest in Peace, Mr. Asprin.
I am going to have a kobold thief named 'Shadowspawn' in my Sunday game this week. I don't expect the young'uns to get the reference, but it is a tribute.
Lynn Abbey is still going strong, and Thieves' world has a fan base and an online presence.
Thieves' world information.
That's sad news. Sorry to hear it. I read an obscure book by him called Bug Wars, which was the first book of his I read, and then the Thieves' World stuff. RIP.
I enjoyed Asprin's Thieves World ("the meanest, seediest town in all of fantasy") and the Myth series. He'll certainly be missed.
Sad news indeed; he has brought me many hours of entertainment; love so many of the books he wrote and edited.; he too will be sorely missed.
Is it just me or do we seem to be losing a lot of the "greats" in science fiction and fantasy lately? Very depressing...
Yes, that is unfortunate, on a brighter note, I'm glad that a few people remember Sanctuary, den of Thieves, no Rogue's allowed.

Breaks my heart! I still have my Thieves World boxed set. And I have every Myth Adventure book. Along with Zelazny, Robert Asprin is a favorite, well-loved writer.
You will be DEEPLY missed, sir.
This is truly a sad loss.
The great ones are passing on.
I doubt we'll see there like again.
Surely a tragic mythtake? Only his books made me laugh out loud... at least when I was younger. Rest in peace.
