I'm guessing there's probably demand for another Curse of the Crimson Throne game around here . . .
My free time schedule is changing for the better in the immediate future, so I'm wrangling players for a CotCT PBP. I have a fair bit of experience playing and running PBPs, though I have not yet run one on these boards.
I'm seeking exactly six players. The call is open for at least 48 hours; sometime after midnight GMT Tuesday night, I'll randomly select from among those expressing interest by then. I'll also make a waitlist.
I do not encourage detailed character design at this stage. My preferred process is for the selected players to design a well-rounded group.
My ideal posting frequency for the players is about daily. I'm on and able to post most of most days (I'm on GMT-4), but will occasionally miss one myself.
Die-rolling will be by whatever mode each player prefers -- I trust y'all. Combat will be a mishmash of initative order and posting first, compromising between full information and keeping things moving. Good initiative rolls will always be an advantage. More details as we get going.
I like rules, and I believe in the dice. I'm quite familiar with the 3.5 action rules. If bad things happen to either PCs or opponents due to the dice, so be it (though players whose characters are out of the game for one reason or another will be encouraged to re-enter, jumping to the front of the queue). I find this makes players more invested if the risks are real!
What else do you need to know?
Starting with 0xp, max gold, 32-point-buy. PHB races only, but classes and other options available from Core, Compete Arcane/Divine/Warrior/Adventurer and Races series, and both AP Player's Guides. Complete Scoundrel/Mage/Champion options by permission. Most options from the SRD are available, but no psionics. Non-evil alignments only, and Chaotic Neutral does not mean either insane or non-detectable evil.
House rules:
- No multiclassing limits or experience penalties.
- No permanent level loss, because that is Hurting Wrong Fun. Raise Dead and Resurrection cost an extra 50% in material component costs, and Greater Restoration restores "permanent" negative levels.
- 2 extra skill points/level for all characters (8 at first), 1 (4) of which must be spent on some combination of Craft and Profession (bought as class skills).
- Knowledge: Local is a class skill for all characters.
- Fractional Saves and BAB for multiclass characters. This generally helps the BAB of characters with more than one non-fighting class, and keeps saves for multiclass characters from being entirely out of whack. More details when the time comes.
Reading:
The CotCT Player's Guide is required reading. THe non-Secrets part of Guide to Korvosa is great if you've got it.
I'd really rather have players who are not familiar with the adventure, or at least will not go beyond whatever you've already read, but I'll leave that up to you.
Whew! Now to copy this to the clipboard and see if it will post!

I, too have yet to play on these boards!
I would like to enter my name into the lottery for players.I have the Players Guide and have not read the adventure, as I have
hoped that I might be able to play at some point.
I would hope to play an Elf, one of the folk that live in the South of town. I do not have the guide in front of me at the moment, I must confess.
I enjoy playing magic users and would play a sorcerer or wizard, though a druid would also be acceptable.
If the group needs a blade, then I would shift to ranger.
First Choice: Elf, wizard.
Hope to here soon!
Cheers!

Eldritch Warriors article?
Yes, although I didn't want to use it as a mystical ability. Just a representation of his conditioning from long hard days on the docks and standing as a bouncer at taverns.
Are you sure Pat? It is trading his first level feat for the ability to ignore his armor when calculating encumbrance, and counting each armor as one step lighter for movement penalties. Adds 1 to the max Dex bonus as well. Is that too much?

Pat, this might help you relative the eldritch warrior alternative feature mentioned by TriOmegaZero:
Bonded Armor - replacing 8th level fighter bonus feat; you bond with a specific suit of armor through a ritual; allows you to don or remove the said armor as a full-round action; also, as long as you are awake and can move freely, the armor grants you a +1 insight bonus to AC; insight bonus increase to +2 at 14th level; +3 at 20th. This is a supernatural ability.
Eldritch Grace - replacing 4th level fighter bonus feat; you gain evasion against spells and magical effects as long as you are unencumbered or lightly encumbered. This is a supernatural ability.
Eldritch Juggernaut - replacing 18th level fighter bonus feat; while wearing medium or heavy armor, you gain spell resistance equal to 11 + your hit dice. This is a supernatural effect that does not stack with any other spell resistance you have.
Fortification - replacing fighter bonus feats at 10th, 14th and 18th levels; beginning at 10th level, when wearing heavy armor there is 25% chance that any critical hit or sneak attack scored against you is negated and damage is instead rolled normally. The negation chance increases to 75% at 14th level and 100t% at 18th level. This is a supernatural effect that does not stack with any other fortification you have.
Warrior of Air (as this option I plan on taking, I'll not be posting the others, i.e. Warrior of Earth, Fire and Water) - replacing figther bonus feats at levels 2, 6, 12 and 20; at 2nd level gain electrical resistance 5, which increases to 10 and 20 at levels 12 and 20, respectively.
Starting at level 6 gain ability to cast featherfall as a spell-like ability three (3) times per day. Caster level equals fighter level. In addition, you deal electrical damage on a successful critical hit with an unarmed strike or melee weapon. You deal +1d6 at 6th, +2d6 at 12 and +3d6 at 20th.
Starting at 12th level, you may cast freedom of movement as a spell-like ability once per day. Caster level equals fighter level. At 20th level, you may cast it 3 times per day.
Sorry if I may be overstepping my bounds as a bystander.

I think I'm going to stick with my call. Since someone with this ability would always wear medium armor if given a choice, it's basically a feat for an extra 10' movement. That's awfully good. (And thanks for the assist, Radavel; more information is always good!).
Seeker, Nerak, and Longreach, you're in the pool. As stated above, I'll do a random draw from the interested parties tomorrow night -- 6 players and an ordered waitlist.
Seeker, I don't have the Urban Druid information, but I need to keep my life simple! Hope you're still interested.

yep I can make something else. I would be happy to mail you the info but i'm cool with a DM not allowing things I do that all the times in my own games.

I'm interested as well in joining...I had half-finished working on a ranger character (possibly as an eventual member of the Sable Company)...but I'll differ to see what is needed.
The Urban Ranger variant was something I had also considered...and you can find it under Variant classes in the D20SRD, if that makes it any easier for you, seekerofshadow and Pat.
I think the question that brought this to my mind was that there was some debate as to whether an urban ranger could be a Sable Company marine - as the player's guide seems to imply they must be a standard ranger, plus the urban ranger is limited to a medium sized creature - something a hippogrif is not.
Anyhow, I'm rambling too much...for now I just wanted to say I'm interested.

I'd like to throw my hat into the ring as well. I've not played PbP on these boards yet, but I've been playing over at EnWorld for close to 6 years now. Not sure what I'd play yet, but keen on starting in a CoCT game. I've got the Player's guide and the Guide to Korvosa too, though I've not read them yet.
