Hrm,
NOW I'm seriously confused. (I know, What ELSE is new?!?) ;P
The d20pfsrd site seems to have 2 different, (NEARLY identical, but not Quite!) entries for the Lantern Archon.
(One for "Summoned Creature: Lantern Archon", and another for "Archon, Lantern" in the bestiary)
Of course when I first read it, I swear that it said the archons 'light rays' were electrical dmg. (In fact I know this used to be correct, in ver 3.x at least)
But NOW I'm reading that their light rays "Overcome Dmg reduction of any type", and a link where I got a lot of suggested summons for each level specifically called their light ray dmg as "untyped" (And there is no dmg type listed in the entries now) ;P
Sigh. TOO much info, TOO little brain power left to keep track of it all!!
;P

Ragadolf |

Your kindness is appreciated (As always)
But as usual, I went and rolled and then continued writing my usual novel-length posts, without waiting for a response. :P
(And of course, I SHOULD have made the roll BEFORE choosing a summons!) ;P
Ah the joy of a high-INT, Low Wis caster! (Like his player!) >_<
Its all good! Either way! :)
(I just honestly can't keep up with all of this any more. My brain hurts! HOW do YOU do it?!?) ;)
And they can still cast AID at will. So either way, its not wasted :)

I was just looking through old posts to try and put together a coherent timeline I could reference in the other sidequest thread, and I realized that, according to the World of Greyhawk timeline, I f$*~ed up:
211 CY - Alessia dies in the Tomb of Horrors
215 CY - Acererak *builds* the Tomb of Horrors
450s CY - Alessia searches for clues at the Citadel of Ruin
490s CY - Alessia is imprisoned in Tcian Sumere
560s CY - Tomb of Horrors adventure takes place, Acererak's original demilich form is presumed destroyed by Robilar and Tenser
570s CY - Alessia somehow gets her hands on coins from the Free City of Greyhawk
601 CY - current year on Oerth
Even given the fact that planar travel makes the timeline get kind of fuzzy, this seems off. Factor in Return to the Tomb of Horrors, and now my head hurts.
Retcon time...

David M Mallon |

Easy enough fix - in Timeline C132, Acererak builds the ToH in CY 15. Call this the ‘premature edungeonation’ timeline.
Alternate approach: instead of retconning the Greyhawk lore, we could have Alessia living from CY 540 to 581 instead of CY 170 to 211, and then spending a few hundred years in the Outer Planes, even though only about 20 years has passed on Oerth (sort of the reverse of what happened to Melchizedek).
I'd be OK with either one-- which works best for you, storytelling-wise?

David M Mallon |

I always prefer to hew to written canon if possible. I’ve ruled previously that time goes weird in certain planes. Mel is about 2500 years old because of it.
OK, new timeline:
215 CY - Acererak builds the Tomb of Horrors
540 CY - Alessia's birth year
560s CY - Tomb of Horrors adventure takes place, Acererak's original demilich form is presumed destroyed by Robilar and Tenser
560s-570s CY - "Classic D&D" era
581 CY - Alessia is killed during the events of Return to the Tomb of Horrors
580s-590s CY - [ambiguous timeline due to planar travel]
601 CY - current year on Oerth
This way, the only on-paper screw-up is one forum post from a few years ago, and we don't have to retcon any canon lore.

ROFL!
But WHY?!? ;P
I mean if the 'Golden ARCHES' can be a winning franchise, surely the 'Golden PORTALS' is a sure fire success!
It's like a license to print money! ;)
(especially when your getting said money from (usually) greedy, tomb-robbing, trouble-causing, adventure-derailing adventurers!) ;D

Hey all. Bit of a hectic week. You may see I have updated some of my threads, but I have run out of time. Fortunately, I should have time to get everything square Tomorrow, In Shah Allah
Hope everyone's Christmas/Yule/Chanukah/Kwanzaa/Festivus preparations are going swimmingly!

Food poisoning this week and so much work I am up to my eyeballs.
HOWEVER.
I was thinking about this OOC thread the other day. I remember back in 2016, 2017, hell even 2018 many of us just having crap years and hoping that next year would be better. Then 2020 came and it was like, hmmm, those prior years weren't so bad now were they! That being said, I have to confess, my life is great. My kid is growing up and so far she sems pretty well adjusted despite having divorced parents, new wife is my favorite person in the whole world, my son who was supposed to be born with a birth defect was perfectly healthy, I (think) we are closing in on a new home in a few weeks, my business grows every year... this is the first year I can look back and say, this year really is better than last year. I hope that has been the case for all of you as well!
Glad this game is still going on and we can share the journey of life apart, but, still together.

Ragadolf |

That, is amazing SS. :)
I am glad to hear of your guys good fortune(s).
I don't know you guys well, but I am pretty certain it is well-deserved!
:)
In case I get crazy(ier)than I already am, and dont get the chance to say it,
I wish everyone a Happy, Restful, Well-deserved, and MERRY Christmas/Yule/Chanukah/Kwanzaa/Festivus And a FABULOUS NEW YEAR! ;D

Merry Yule all!
Today on this shortest day of the year, I’d like to wish you all peace and success in the coming Winter season.
I will be traveling along the East Coast to the Lovecraftian winter vista of Olde Cape Cod for the weekend. I believe all complicated battles are completed for now, and it’s a lot easier to update non-math-intensive posts. So, I may post this weekend, but I also might get tied up in other stuff. Either or, I’ll see you on the other side of the holiday season!

Justin shrugs, and points after Alessia.
"Follow the leader?"
The wizard turns and does exactly that.
Sorry, this was all I could think of...
Also, I will never fail to be impressed by the amount of coherent words you're able to write in such a short time. My typical PbP posting workflow consists of spending anywhere from a couple days to a couple years staring at a blank page, clutching my head like a confused Far Side caveman, then writing something to the effect of "Bob the fighter points and grunts."

LOL, THAT works. (I have always liked that movie!)
When in doubt bout ANYthing my toon does, presume something like that! :)TYVM for the kind words.
I always fear that I'm typing too much.
Like, WAY too too too much.
BUT, in my defense, I am a chatty Kathy IRL too. ;P
In recent years, I have been inspired by some of my fave authors to try and write fun scenes in this PbP format. This is fun. And I love the actual collaborative storytelling that we can do in this format.
BUT, I got off to a rocky start, (Few years ago, when I first discovered that Paizo had PbP threads) I first started with a great group, but (I believe) that I caused them to leave the game and quit (or at least move to another platform) because of my over-abundant and lengthy posts.
(To be fair, it was probably more because I tried to react to EVERYthing in every post, and ended up reacting to things that the other characters hadnt shared yet. Totally my bad. But I was excited about finally getting to play D&D again, in ANY format, and I got carried away.) :(
I hope Im wrong, and it was something else, but there you are. ;)
I am very happy that some are being entertained by my over-abundance of verbiage. But as you've noted, I can write myself into corners too! :P
(Tokens of "IOU a Favor" given to a Dark Lord anyone?!?) >_<
As long as you all realize that I am just a Chatty Kathy, (And very much enjoy TRYING to be entertaining, and hopefully funny) and NOT trying to actually take over or anything! O_O
AND there you go, another novel-length post-response from yours truly.
At least I'm consistent! :D

I think we all sync so well in that we use this format to scratch the frustrated writers itch. This format is the only way I have found to consistently get around my writers block. I enjoy writing, but I have a hard time putting a whole story on paper. Dave got me to do my last one I managed (a creepy story about a girl discovering her disturbing family legacy)
I love our collaborative story. If you all didn’t post as much as you do this game would have likely dried up and died long ago.

Also, I love taking the backstories and integrating them. After you finally wrap up the Dead Gods story arc (assuming we get there), We can pivot to a high-level hunt for Acererak. It’s a noble undertaking, with a good revenge/redemption arc for Alessia and the challenges will be good for a high-level party.
Also, speaking of the free adventure tokens Justin scattered about. Once Murphy is rescued (which is close to done, give or take your urge to explore the citadel further). That incident spurred me to make a surprise sidequest I’ll be unveiling in that thread after you get home.

Cool.
I would post more but Hamar isn't the chatty type.
I post enough in the Vamp threads!

I'd certainly be up for a side trek of that at some point :-)
Oh and my apologies for melting the entire Vampire groups brains with that post earlier in the week, been sitting on that plot point since 2006. Select characters in earlier table top iterations of the group saw some of that but never the entire group like just now. Wait till you see the actual scrolls...
Talisman/Saint Sebastian, Uriel, Vander, Fahdi, Alejandro, Sadir, and Radek are all former PCs in the table top group, just as I intend to make this group future NPCs that embrace the next group of PCs.

Ragadolf |

I don't know what you're talking about in the "Vampire Group" , but it also sounds epic! :)
Heh, Yeah, I kinda figured that those 'IOU favor tokens' were just another DM's fancy phrase for 'Adventure hook'. ;)
I DO love how well this group meshes together. We have riffed off of each other REALLY well once we get in our groove! :)
Regarding the posting, As you can tell, WORDS are not my problem. ;P
Now, getting a decent plot together, with suitable depth and interest and appropriate plot twists, etc etc, THAT'S what I have a hard time with.
I have tried enough in my misspent youth to be VERY appreciative of those with actual talent in that area. (Points to Mr Curtain.)
Hey, its officially Christmas Eve now, so just in case I get buried in baking and going to church and last minute ELF-ing (As my mother calls it) and dont get back to the PC before it rolls around,...
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
:D
Happy Holidays all, thanks for letting me be a part of all this! :)

It’s a magnum Opus, dude. I relish those posts as a DM. When you guys finally got to the Orcus reveal in Erelhi Cinlu, that was so cathartic.
It was pretty damn cool as a player too! Nothing better than when the DM is excited and it carries over to the players, nothing worse when the DM is excited and the players could give 2 s%&~s....

Seconded. I'm not much of a writer, but this is pretty much the only creative outlet I have left, and it means a lot to me that a) it's still going, and b) I haven't gotten kicked out yet.

It means a lot to methat we have hung in there through thick and thin. Lord knows these past few years I have fallen off posting several times and I always feel after a pause like that it won’t restart. I’m glad you folks put up with it :)
Speaking of pauses- I had a nice Christmas, but the trip back was draining. I’m just getting back into the saddle today. I hope I can post up in all the threads this OOC services by tomorrow

Merry Christmas!
Happy Holidays!
Happy (upcoming) New year! :D
Hello all!
So Sorry for radio silence. Been a busy Holiday.
On top of 'the usual' Holiday stuff, my wife had surgery (Nothing 'major', out-patient nasal surgery, but the recovery time is ridiculous!) AND so, of course for Christmas I got sick! ;P
SO I am trying to take care of her, and NOT share my cold (or whatever), because that would not be good. >_<

Hah!
Don't worry, David, I think that if this group has put up with MY Chatty-Kathy posting over all this time, You're safe! :)This PbP really HAS been through thick-n-thin, hasn't it? (And I mean that for the Characters, as well as the players!) ;P
I am glad that you made it back safe Pat!
I guess with the wacky weather and all the travel delays and cancellations, I guess you're lucky to be back already, and not still stuck somewhere! :)
Happy (all the) Holidays to all!
Prayers and happy thoughts going out to all, that our NEW year is a sight better than Our last one! :)
(Even if you had a good year, I hope this next one is still better!) ;)
