New Prestige Classes in Pathfinder?

I know PFRPG is going to be compatible with 3.5, so that means there are a ton of existing Prestige Classes available to be used.

However, I was wondering if the PFRPG core book was going to introduce new pathfinder specific prestige classes? Or if there plans to introduce them in other products?

Personaly, if the answer to this is no, that is fine with me. Any offical answer on this?

I might be wrong, but I think they may have already started with a PrC or two in Golarion in the AP's. I'm steering away from the Pathfinder stuff for now as I'm playing in RotRL so I'm not sure. But considering they won't be able to publish any antagonists with PrC's other than the ogl ones, I'm pretty sure new ones custom to Golarion will crop up as the setting develops.

That's a good point. I will have to check the Pathfinder AP books. I have only read through about issue #3 so far.

The Spherewalker PrC is introduced in the article on Desna in RoRL #2.

#5 had variant class features for Lamashtu-worshipping druids. They get to summon more monstrous critters - and even get a more monstrous "animal" companions.

I'd say that a Pathfinder (the society, not the multiple lines of roleplaying products) PrC is inevitable, and the same goes for Hellknights (and more than a few faith-specific PrCs).

But I think they'd be in the Pathfinder Chronicles Campaign Setting, or in some other Chronicles or Companions books.

That doesn't mean that they won't do a couple of extra PrCs in the RPG, though. They just would be more generic I'd think.

On the other hand, the DMG has the Red Wizard in it, and that's not in the SRD. If they want to follow the example to put something setting-specific in there as an example for world-building, we might see something Golarionish after all.

We will indeed be introducing new prestige classes now and then. I think the next one on the "schedule" is the Red Mantis assassin, which will be appearing in Pathfinder #9. There might be a few more in the campaign setting hardcover as well.

EDIT: I believe Pathfinder #8 has an Abadar-related prestige class as well.

Nice. :)

Actually, I'm hoping that Pathfinder continues to add prestige classes, since otherwise the game will be limited to the DMG ones, since those are the only ones that are in the SRD, as has been previously stated. At the same time, I'd like to see all of the new prestige classes tied to the setting - whether it be tied to a specific diety as we've started to see, or to a particular guild, city, country, cult, etc.

I think that will go a long way to putting the prestige back into prestige classes. It's a lot cooler (ARRGH! I used the banned adjective!) to be a fighter who trained as a Nardbonian Pit Fighter, than just a fighter who trained as a Big Two Handed Weapon Master.

Okay, so I'm old and my brain is starting to go to mush as well. :)

I agree that Prestige Classes that are tied to the setting or even specifically to the campaign storyline are much more interesting than "generic prestige classes". That almost seems like an oxymoron!

I am not against prestige classes per se, I just didn't think they were required for Pathfinder. Even if Paizo never published another one there are enough published ones out there (even non-OGL ones can be used in home campaigns, of course) that you could pick a different one for each PC and never play the same one twice.

Overall, I prefer the 11 core class and a proliferation of Prestige classes instead of adding more core classes. So i hope Paizo adds plenty of prestige classes.

Also the right prestige classes really helps a setting come to life and connect characters to it. "All my life growing up in the slums of Krovosa I admired the Hellknights. After years of adventuring i finally had the skill and determination to pass the tests to become one. Live an orderly life and one day you can join our ranks as well."

I have never been a fan of Prestige classes, unless they are specific to the adventure itself. Then i find them fun and helpful. I do tend to enjoy a few ideas for core classes. Here are a few i have enjoyed.

Caster/Warrior (duskblade)
Sorcerer/Druid (shamen)
Bard/Warrior (swashbuckler)
Paladin/Warrior (knight)
Cleric/Wizard (warlock)

I included the way to custom create through multi classing, but i like the customized classes listed in parenthesis. While you always have to be careful of bloat, and typicaly the core classes are better than secondary core classes, but i hope that we get a few of the favorites transitioned to 3.P. (I'm voting for duskblade and warlock types).

Just my 2cp.

Right now, I'm working on updating some of the more common and standard prestige classes that are OGL so they fit with the current classes. PRCs are supposed to be flavor for classes, but since classes were made better, PRCs must be made so accordingly. Also, I am adding in things like allowing progression in Domains and Specialties for spellcasting PRCs, so that Clerics and Wizards still progress in these in PRCs.

I'm not sure that's the way Paizo wants to go with PrCs, though. one of the stated purposes of the base class boosts was to make switching to a PrC a decision with a cost attached - the idea is that you would actually be giving something up if you switch over. Continuing domain and specialist benefits (as a generic rule, anyway) strikes me as directly counter to this purpose. Beefing PrCs might or might not be an issue, depending on which way you go. I appreciate the removal of "dead" levels from any class, but the idea should be to put the PrCs on parity with the base classes, not keep them ahead of the curve.

While i enjoy some of the more interesting prestige classes out there, i much prefer when there is some back story of where the PrC comes from and how it fits into the setting. In modern context, Army Ranger would be a PrC from the Soldier core class. Something like that.
