Fixing the warrior

The original envision of this idea was to do away with classes completely but certain friends of mine have talked me down otherwise. So here is the start of the first orb of trees that I think the fighter/barbarian/ranger.

Fighters begin with 4 feats and may choose any of the following when leveling.
Protection Sphere
Tree 1
Light Armor: Preq – None
Med Armor: Preq – Light Armor
Heavy Armor: Preq –Medium Armor
Endurance: Preq – Medium Armor
Die Hard: Preq – Endurance
Dodge: Preq – Endurance
Mobility: Preq – Dodge

Tree Two
Shield Prof: Preq – None
Shield Bash: Preq – Shield Prof
Improved Shield Bash: Preq – Shield Bash
Pummel: Preq - Improved Shield Bash
Shield Pin: Preq – Improved Shield Bash
Tower Shield Prof: Preq – Shield Prof
Shield Specialization: Preq – Tower Shield Prof
Deflecting Shot: Preq - Shield Specialization
Reflecting Shot: Preq – Deflecting Shot
Shield Mastery: Preq -Shield Pin and Reflecting Shot

Improve toughness: Preq – None
Armor Mastery: Preq – Type of armor that you are wearing you must be Proficient with

Final Stand: Preq – Mobility, Armor Mastory and and Die Hard
Only 5 Feet under: Preq - Final Stand
Second Life: Preq – Only 5 Feet Under

Pummel – Full attack action that hits someone with your shield for regular damage and knocks them prone equal to a balance check versus the damage dealt.
Shield Pin – Hold someone against the wall with your shield granting you a flanking bonus without a flanker. Must have a wall or floor (if opponent is prone)
Shield Specialization – Increases the defense bonus of your shield by 1 and lowers the armor check by 1
Deflecting Shot – Redirects a ray spell that you are in the line of or the target of to a different random target (including the caster and the original target) within the range of the spell
Reflecting Shot – As deflecting shot but you choose the redirect of the ray’s target
Shield Mastery – Doubles the AC provided by your shield and reduces the Armor Check Penalty by 2
Final stand: Increases AC by 10 for rounds equal to your con modifier (Luck Bonus)
Only 5 Feet Under Damage that would normal reduce you below 0 this round instead reduces you to 1, you cannot fall below 1 this round
Second Life: At the cost of 3 con you can bring yourself back from a dead state and fight on as long as it has been less the 5 rounds since you died. This damage is permanent and cannot be undone or repaired by magical means or otherwise. The state in which you return is as 33 percent health with no former magical effects that you were under (both good and bad) still active.

This is just an example of one of the spheres that I had in mind and I think bring some more diversity to the warrior. Other spheres I was thinking of a weapon mastery, and wilderness mastery. Plz post all and any comments.

Liberty's Edge

So with these spheres, how is it supposed to work? Is this supposed to replace the armor mastery ability, or are these feats?

The idea is to take a way all the special abilities from the warrior and give them the feat every other level like it is. There would be other spheres but this is just kinda an example of what one could be. So the warrior would look much more like the 3.5 phb warrior only with new cool combat type feats theoretically.

Liberty's Edge

Is this for the Warrior NPC class? Or the Fighter class?

Or any martial class that has access to feats?

Is this something like a feat chain?

<scratched head>

What???

You need to seriously clarify this, because it doesn't make sense the way you wrote it. It feels like you wrote it out of context.

Let me start over with this.

While examining the fighter PC class the real problem with them is that after fighter 4, why go on?

The solution that is easily seen here as brought up by several people before is to use feat chains and allow for these feat chains to get progressivly better.

So in thinking of types of feat chains several spheres these chains could fall into came to mind; for example if you wanted to play the big beefy tank warrior that isnt the best damage but deffinetly best meat shield a live you may want to go very deep in to the protection shere which I outlined in the earlier post. Others Sphere that I would be willing to detail would be a weapon mastery type Sphere that would include Weapon Focus/Weapon Mastery/Special Moves ect and these would be lower armored fighters but deffinetly heavy hitters. Furthermore you could have your wilderness type fighter and this would include things like track, possibly tree shape ect things of that nature. The final sphere would be the finess fighter, things like swashbuckler type features and possibly a hide in plain sight, insightful strike ect.

Then when a warrior gets a feat and for example wishes to start down a meat shield type path they can start to take feats in that sphere with armor proficiency and such as prev outlined. If the warrior that you want to play is more of a Im going to beat the s#~% out of you warrior you may want to go to feats in the arms sphere which I would be willing to work up if there was some interest in it.

I hope this makes more sense. I could see this type of thing taking over the Ranger/Barbarian/Fighter Class and completly eliminating them and instead if you want to play a wilderness fighter type of person and have a pet example you would spend your feats in the wilderness sphere(example being the warrior with a weaker feat progression). Again just an Idea and seeing how people respond to it, if there was interest I would put a lot more time into and try to come up with a full write up for the fighter.
