With the announcement of the Pathfinder RPG something that might be of interest would be fan site kits. PC games have been releasing them for some time now for fans of their games to create webpages. These kits typically include artwork and logos that can be used in web design. I have been toying around with a website idea for some time now and this would be very helpful. If you want I can find some links for some fan site kits that are out there for you to take a look at. Plus this would encourge the growth of Paizo and Pathfinder on the web.

We've talked about this in meetings and think it is a great idea. Josh and his team are going to work on these, but we've been a bit distracted and busy with just a few things lately. :) Watch paizo.com for more info about these in the coming weeks!

Very nice to hear that !

This will be a great benefit to myself and anyone else running a Pathfinder wiki. Requests I would like to make for such a fan site kit:
1. Pathfinder logos in several sizes.
2. The deity symbols.
3. Some sort of Pathfinder fan site image file.
4. A copyright statement to be inserted on the main page of the site to protect Paizo's interests.
Thanks so much for listening to our voices Josh.

I'm guessing this is a fair way down the list of priorities, but I wondered if there was any news on this?
We've drafted our community use policy that governs the use of such materials, and we're just now getting feedback from people outside the company for the first time. Once we get tose comments in, it will go to the lawyer to make sure we didn't say anything legally stupid. I'm really not sure when it'll be ready for the public, but it is moving along.

Anyone on facebook want to drop by THIS GROUP, you'll see some familiar faces.
Don't forget to add a note to the 'Paizonians!' thread, to tell us your alias, otherwise no-one will know who you are.

I really hate to sound impatient as I know you guys have more important stuff to do than a fan site kit or fan site policy. But let's face it, I AM impatient. :D
Is there a chance we'll get an update on this in the near future? I've been holding off creating graphics for my fan site, hoping to see something official on the matter. After all, there's no use in creating cool graphics if I can't use it.
Anyway, just wanted to see if there's an update coming any time soon. I understand if it's not a high priority for you guys but I'm sure there are a few designers out there who'd be interested in knowing what they can and cannot do.

Kits??!? Blech!
Make up your minds folks--kits, prestige classes, optional class abilities... The more of these things we get floating around the more the game gets out of balance and the whole notion of making the base classes and races viable again flies right out the window to die a gruesome death. No one has to use them of course, but the more popular ones will have rabid fans begging that they be included in the printed game thus lobbing viability off the roof. Again.
Say no to kits.

LOL. Good one, Max.
This is something we're actively working on. There is a draft fan site policy that is in review right now and should appear in the coming weeks. It's a complex thing that involves lawyers and stuff, so it doesn't always go as rapidly as we might like.
Hmm, that sounds like an excuse I've heard somewhere before.

It is only an excuse if they never publish a fansite policy and never explain why they have not published one.
Also, despite my usual raging cynicism and gratuitous disdain (as opposed to reasoned disdain) for "corporate executive types", I have to suggest giving Erik a bit of extra room with this, as he survived being a Greyhawk website person in the darkest days of TSR. Even if it winds up they cannot make a functioning website policy I would not expect him to keep us hanging.

I'll be happy to tell you exactly where our Community Use Policy stands. We've completed a draft that we're pretty happy with, and we've sent it to a select group of interested parties outside of Paizo for their feedback. Once we've heard what they think, we'll potentially make changes, and then pass it on to the lawyers to make sure that they agree that the document actually says what we think it should say. During that time, we'll be working on the actual package, as well as a couple of new web tools. I can't say for sure when it will be ready to roll out, but it's getting there....

I know that legal work take some time from personal experience, but, any update on this? I ask because I started a blog about a one-off campaign I'm running out of Sandpoint ... of course I'm using some Paizo images (but not maps) and want to give proper credit ... I'd be happy with even a WIP statement I can post or attach to the images ... thanks!

Legal review of our Community Use Policy has been completed; we still have a few things to do, but I expect we'll release it in February.

Still shooting for February.

Still getting our ducks in a row. I've sketched out the code I'll need to write, and the kit materials are being gathered. Still shooting for February, but if it doesn't happen right away, don't fret. It's my top priority after a couple of website maintenance things that are going to happen this week.

Seeing as today's the last business day in February, will we be seeing the promised fan use policy?

Nice. But, you know, if you'd spend as much time as I'm sure that took on getting those interns to give us previews every day, there'd be a lot less complaining around here. Just sayin'.
Eh, a little copy/paste from Wikipedia, use "prefix/suffix" to add the bbcode in TextWrangler... it's taking me longer to explain it than it did to do it.
Seriously, though, it's imminent. Whether than means today or Monday or Tuesday I do not yet know, but it is very, very close.

Sigh. Not today. Monday is likely. Tuesday is also likely.
