Well, I tried to bluff and I surmise that I've failed.
Yeah, that's never going to be an easy one, Lamm *never* meets anyone these days, and his thugs know that letting someone in is likley to be a quick trip to his pet, so all in all, you need to score pretty high, saying that, I think Atherton's first try was within 2 points of succeeding!

I'm holding off on involving Istas in the current conversation with the gnome and Giggles for a couple of reasons. One, Atherton and Jubrayl seem best-suited to speak for the group right now. And two, Istas has the lousiest initiative roll of everyone, so I'd hate to precipitate something at this point. Just FYI...

I've avoided saying anything more yet because I don't want to do something drastic that the rest of the party is opposed to. Should we engage in agressive negotiations with the gnome or try out luck with Yarrin?
Yeah, I think I may have caused some confusion, asking for placments, and init, and then not actually utilising them just yet.
In order to make sure we don't get bogged down, and considering that you are in the most distant timezone from most of the rest of us Arctaris, I would say that if noone has objected by the time you get on to post today, then go for whatever you think best...

Well, maybe this is the time for Istas to interject after all? I mean, she never lies. So she'll just wind up demanding we see Lamm and refusing to leave...and that will certainly precipitate things.
If we opt to speak with Yarrin, it doesn't seem the gnome (or Giggles) is inclined to let all of us pile in there together anyway. So you'd be on your own (or with Jubrayl?) in trying to convince him.
So, with that in mind, I'll go ahead and post something to move us forward...

Sorry I'm currently being no help at all. I just completely lack in inspiration right now. Cal wants to help but isn't sure what she can do without inspiring an all out fight.
That's okay. Istas is never one to back down from a fight. :-)
And if the gnome's gonna call up reinforcements and try to bounce us, we might as well match that bluff and see if he wants to call us when the numbers favor us (excluding the kids, of course)...
I've posted Istas' action. Let's see what kind of response that brings out of him.

Sure. I'm more than okay with that. I know I'm one of the fastest, most-frequent posters probably in just about any game. But I don't want to impose that kind of posting rate on everybody else. I was mainly asking about Nostrus because I really like the character of Jubrayl and hope he hasn't disappeared.
I wouldn't worry too much at this point, he doesn't look to be too regular a poster, so it's difficult to see if this is unusual.
For future reference though, I will tend to move things on reasonably quickly in situations like this, partly becuase a pbp is so easy to catch up on. Less so at weekends, and less so in non-combat situations.

What door did the dude with the wand come out of? The first map doesn't show any other doors.
Maybe you could post an updated one? No one has moved yet, except maybe a few 5' steps.
Torillan will most likely move, but I want to see where others are before I do that.
Sorry, that *is* a really big boo boo.
I'll stick it in the main thread too.

Just a quick note, I'm going to have connection problems over the next few days, and possibly weeks etc as well.
I effectivly have no connectivity at home, and start a new job on Monday, so posting from work could be anything from career suicide, to down right impossible. :)
I won't be available from now until Friday morning (UK time).
Sorry again, and I'll keep you as updated as I can. Should be able to replace the comp in the near future and then be back to normal....

Just a (somewhat belated) heads up; I'm not going to be able to post regularly until Saturday. I might be able to make a quick post a few times but for the most part I'll be AFK. Sorry for the late warning and the inconvienence.
Not a problem. I should be able to post intermittantly over the weekend....somehow!
The more problematic fact, is that on Monday, it is two weeks since Nostrus' last post. I'm not going to make any decisions about Jubrayl, probably until after Lamm is dealt with. I am hoping Nostrus will be abck beofre then, since I have a nice little side quest for you all that pivots on him a little, but I will ahve to play that by ear.
If you're watching this though The Last Rogue I haven't forgotten that I offered you a place if we had any drop outs, so keep watching, and possibly think up some character ideas...

If you want, I could "substitute"-post for him to keep things moving until Nostrus gets back. I've noticed some of the other PbP games do that. Essentially, I'd just create another alias as SUB-Jubrayl, choose the same icon, and generally try to post in-character for him using the same style and tactics Nostrus chose for the paladin in his profile and earlier posting.
Eventually though, if Nostrus still hasn't returned and you want to give The Last Rogue an opportunity, I'd suggest finding a smooth way for transitioning Jubrayl out of the storyline...i.e., after saving his neice, he departs to return her to her family (in Magnimar?)...and then let The Last Rogue bring in a character that fits with the group (another melee warrior perhaps?).
Just my two-cents,

If you want to take on the extra work, by all means do, and read the spoiler that I put up for Nostrus in the main thread. My other alternative at this point is to basically leave him in the back room where he is at the moment not talking any more real part until Lamm is defeated, *why* he would do that becomes quite clear when you see the spoiler....

Done. I've read through the spoilery stuff. And don't worry about player vs. character knowledge. I can keep those separate.
If and when Nostrus returns, I'll gladly step back from running SUB-Jubrayl...or, if he doesn't and you want to bring in The Last Rogue to replace him, we can sort through how to take Jubrayl off-screen. I'll support you either way.

If for some reason TheLastRogue declines the opportunity I would like to throw my hat in the ring. While I have not yet had the opportunity to try out a pbp game myself I have been following Aubrey's various games and also the CotCT games (none of which are past the point you've reached I believe). I would be willing to play whatever helps out (fighter type?) and could post daily.
Now ice that gnome and get Lamm! :D

I notice The Last Rogue is already involved in Ross' CotCT PbP...so I assume he must have joined that one after missing Nevynxxx's game. If so, he'll probably decline involvement in this one. So, if Nostrus doesn't come back, that probably puts you next in line as an alternate. At least, I don't remember anyone else on the waiting list for Nevynxxx's game...

Oliver, I read that post of Malik's earlier today, but didn't have time to replay. Didn't you ask some things? or am I having a fit and remembering it wrong? Or has a post gone missing.....
Ok, it's nearly three weeks since Notrus last posted. I'm happy for NSpicer to keep playing Jubrayl out, but I would like to know what the rest of you think we should do next, options as I see it are...
1) Play Jubrayl out and continue with 5 of you.
2) Play Jubrayl out and allow DA to bring in a new character.
3) Have NSpicer play Jubrayl for the rest of eternity...
What do you think?
| Neil Spicer Contributor, RPG Superstar 2009, RPG Superstar Judgernaut |
1) Play Jubrayl out and continue with 5 of you.
I think a character like Jubrayl adds an extra element of balance to this group. We need someone of a purer mind (and alignment) than everyone else alongside the other characters. It gives us something to compare and contrast with as we go along. And that improves the overall story as experienced by the characters. So just continuing with the 5 of us doesn't sound as interesting, in my opinion.
2) Play Jubrayl out and allow DA to bring in a new character.
As long as DA can bring in a character that fills the void left by Jubrayl...both from a mechanical perspective (i.e., melee fighter)...and a moral perspective (i.e., his outlook and personality)...I think that would be fine.
3) Have NSpicer play Jubrayl for the rest of eternity...
Ummm...now that's definitely not my favorite option. I mean I love you guys and all. But playing two characters simultaneously through the whole game wouldn't be nearly as much fun as interacting with someone else (like Nostrus or DA) who's running such a character.
My recommendation would be to check with DA and see if he'd be willing to take over running Jubrayl...as that would provide the best level of continuity.
Just my two-cents,

Well I'm assuming DA is still following this, and will chip in too. To a certian extent though, I think Calandra does a relatively good job of counter ballancing the rest of you, and I don't want to be too restrictive of another player that joins. It seems unfair to give them restrictions you didn't have.
Saying that, someone with a more caring moral alignment to backup Calandra would help steer you in the right direction I think.

Nevyn,
I re-edited the post from questions to the present incarntaion...
there were questions in the post first, but re-reading the thread some things had already been answered. So I went from asking questions (already answered) to giving you an opening, if Malik recognizes the item as one he gave to his former love, Vivienne. (Perhaps this one, or another later on...)

Well, it's 3:30 in the morning here and couldn't sleep. Think it may have been those spicy enchiladas. I am still following and tried posting 2 days ago just to let you know I was still around but got an error and said the admin had been notified so hopefully this post works. Looks like the group has all the major roles filled nicely. I was thinking of maybe playing a slightly different melee/archer character but am really open to just about anything. I just got the second book to this campaign in the mail and put it right up on the shelf unopened in hopes to be playing this soon :) Eventually I will run the campaign myself but that is a long way off since we are in chapter 11 of The Savage Tide facing Demonlords and my group will probably take a break from D&D for a bit after that. Just give me the word and I'll hop in.

@oliver - cool
@DA - okey doke....I like the fighter/archer concept, could lead ti interesting things in a predominantly city campaign, but hey....
What do you think to the "lawful good" "party rudder" role?
Dark Arioch
|
Looks like there are a couple of Lawful party members. I will absolutely be "good" but was thinking of a little more flexibility with "Neutral Good". Still capable of being a moral compass. I have played some Pallys in the past and enjoyed them but that's not my current concept (could be with some tweaking).
What are the current character creation conventions you are using? I saw that it seems you are somewhat using the new PFRPG rules. I'll refresh myself on those. Should I do anything with the Lamm backgrounds?
I can have this written up enough for introduction pretty quickly.
For Nevyn:

** spoiler omitted **
Sounds good to me.....It will be at least another couple of days, probably this time next week before I can introduce you properly, and how I do that will depend more on your background.
As for rules wise, use as Much PFRPG as you can depending on class, and we will "upgrade" you as soon as possible like everyone else. Full starting gold, full hitpoints, and 28 point buy (I think, I may have miss remembered but you should be able to dig out the origional thread with all that in....)
So, I'd say, concentrate on the background as much as you can, and probably wait for alpha 2 if the ranger is in there to do the stats side.

[offtopic]I'm liking Atherton more and more, what better than a cockney theif?[/ooftopic]
So am I, he's one of the funnest characters I've ever played. However, I just want to check in with everyone and make sure he's not being too unpleasant. I don't want to lessen the fun of the game for anyone through Ath's actions.

Reth is ready for you to take a look at Nevyn. I hopefully did most things right. Let me know what I need to change if anything.
That's cool. Keep the +1 from the Lamm background, but other than that it won't matter.

Ok, your harrow card is "The Juggler".
*I* don't actually post rolls, hehe, but use invisible castle in the pbp I play in....
I don't care what you use to be honest though, from dice, through to IC, I'm not in the habbit of checking up on the rolls.
Sable company at 3rd level is fine, with the animal companion at 4th, that actually will make sense in the context of the adventures. I'd rather you kept away from being a guard though, assume that you can "apprentice" with the Sable company until your skills are high enough to join, and that they will let you tag along/send you out to do things to help in this.
Basically, you as a group will get some high ranking guard contacts early on, so it is easier for me if you don't know many guards etc....Ohter than that, you are all set once they get Lamm out fo the way.

Also, I am in the U.S. in the Mountain Timezone. I believe it was Arctaris? who was in Colorado. I am in New Mexico but visit family up in Colorado Springs all the time. You going to Worldcon in August?
Yep, the middle of nowhere, southern Colorado. We live near a tiny little town called Aguilar, which you may have passed if you go to Springs. If you don't mind me asking, where in New Mexico?
Probably not going to Worldcon, this summer is going to be extremely busy for me.| Torillan |

Hey gang. I want to apologize for my recent spate of infrequent postings. I'm still here, just busy for the next few weeks off and on.
I'm an ER Tech working night shifts, and I'm also a team leader for our disaster response teams. We've been organizing and running drills here and there, and it's eating up a lot of my time, thus I'm sleeping at every opportune moment. I DO have a week off coming to me, and I'll be home painting my kids rooms, so my posting rate will increase.
Thanks, and I hope I haven't slowed things down too much. I'm loving the characters, and I'm stoked to see this through.
Carry on!!

Whee! Alpha Release 2!
As we're considering playing with the PFRPG rules I thought I'd ask in advance as I plan to give Cal some sorceress levels - do we think the Destined or the Fey bloodline suits better? I ask now as the choice effects her background a little. (even if we don't use the PFRPG rules I like the idea of knowing the source of her magic)

With your focus on the Harrowed feat and what-not, it would seem to make more sense to go with the Destined bloodline. But that's just my opinion...

That was my reason for picking it as an option, fey sits well with her chaotic nature but I am leaning more to destined.
