You get 1 Harrow point, plus one for each card that was "chosen" and appeared in the spread, so for Anarchy, you each get 3 harrow Points. Use them well :)
Shiny, the cards really do favour Calandra then between this and the Harrowed feat ;) Now all I need to do is get to a point where she can cast 3rd level spells so she can perform Harrowings herself :P

I should make it clear that these harrow points only apply to Specific Harrow readings. There should effectivly be one per adventure (i.e. 1 per Pathfinder book), and I will let you know when these special ones occur.
The cards you get in the choosing also give extra bonuses, as per the last paragraph I pasted, and I will keep track of who gets those bonuses in which fights when the fights begin.
If I forget at any point, remind me!

You made that clear hun :) I was just saying that I'm all happy with all the Harrow-y goodness. Harrow points & her daily bonus from her Harrowed feat :)
I will be smiling sweetly at you for the Harrowing spell for her if she survives until the point she'd get 3rd level spells, but chances are she'll never actually use the spell as the Harrowing looks like hard work on the DM ;)

I noticed that you can't actually use those until you have a harrow deck to hand.....didn't realise that when I told you not to buy one. Not to worry, we have ways and means.

I will have to have a look at the spell at some point.
Well, I have it down to about 40 mins from that last reading, with 2 A4 pages of scribble. But that is because I don't have a harrow deck, so am using a normal card deck to do it, which means copying down the meanings, checking for miss-aligned cards etc etc, then working out the meanings. The most complicated bit is working in the forshadowing, and making it all make sense.
besides, Cal is the harrow Reader, if she does a reading, I will let you do the whole thing. I'm nice that way!

Not to worry, it's why I wrote Kizzy having the family deck, she can make use of her feat as & when she's at home ;) *is a tricksy minx*

YAY! *strokes cards* i can see how it'd be tricky without the deck itself, with the actual harrow cards you can see at a glance what's misaligned and which are matches/partial matches. Thanks for all the effort you've put in :)

Right, ok, I've looked, and can't find it.....why is this spell again?
:P
OK, I'm a moron, I thought I'd read it in the players guide, but no it's in the little booklet that comes with the harrow deck. I'm a bit distracted right now but I will type it up for you tomorrow :)

Just a heads up guys, I'm going to be in the wilds of the lakelands over the weekend, so probably won't post from early Friday morning until late on Monday.
I'll still be posting all day today though...
Second question, how would everyone feel about starting to incorporate the PathfinderRPG rules?
At the moment I am thinking using their XP/combat systems, and allowing their feats. I would suggest ignoing the skill changes at the moment, since you have all already sorted your skills....
I won't go with this unles everyone agrees though, as it's a pretty major change.
Paizo Fan
In all fairness, we haven't yet got into the meat of the adventure. The biggest problem is that the Fighter, Rogue and Wizard classes have had their revamp but the other classes are still waiting.
I'm all for incorporating the new rules, but I think we should hold fire until we get our grubby mitts on all the of alpha playtest documents. Other than that, count me in!

Second question, how would everyone feel about starting to incorporate the PathfinderRPG rules?
I like a lot of the changes to Turning Undead and Cleric Domains in light of how I've envisioned Istas and the faith of Pharasma. She has the Repose and Knowledge domains, which would come with some interesting powers down the road. And the ability to heal others as she turns undead would keep us moving at a faster pace...i.e., without needing to rest quite as often. So, if anything, that's what I'd like to incorporate and playtest.
I do agree with Nostrus, however. Anyone who's gone with a non-standard class (i.e., paladin, bard, etc.) won't have a whole lot of new stuff to hang their hat on yet...aside from the feats, combat maneuvers, and so on. That might not necessarily be a bad thing though. If you want to playtest the new Pathfinder RPG ruleset, it might be best to work in a little at a time. I know I plan on taking that approach in my tabletop games. All at once is kind of a difficult jump to make because of the slowdown needed to consolidate everything.
So, with that in mind, maybe I don't agree with Nostrus quite as much as I thought. If you're going to playtest these rules, it might be a good thing that only a few characters are affected by it at a time. Then, once everyone's comfortable with the changes to Istas (and Malik, probably) around the spellcasting and powers, we'll be more ready to easily integrate whatever additional rules get released for paladins and bards...

Well, like I said above, I would probably just introduce the combat stuff first (since that is what we will hit first), by the time we hit levling up, the rest of the classes should be out, so we can introduce those aspects then....
How does that sound?

I'll be looking through the Alpha.doc tonight so I'll see.
Nice RPing Istas, NSpicer! You really make her come alive and I think Ath and her will have many interesting interactions. Especial if they get to discussing faith and morality, and his lack there of. She's definitely an interesting character.

Thanks! I'm going with how I assume a priestess of Pharasma...and a former-Shoanti barbarian...would behave. The next few issues of Pathfinder are supposed to go more in-depth on the Shoanti...and hopefully, James Jacobs will get around to defining the HUGE amount of background material he has on Pharasma from his homebrew campaign world. That would help me roleplay her even better, I think. I don't have the Guide to Korvosa, but I understand the Pharasmen get defined some there, as well.

I like what they've done with the classes, too. Especially the spellcasting classes. Wizards look a lot better now. Clerics trade out their bonus domain spells for spell-like abilities at certain levels. And the Rogue class gets a lot of options to mold them into a more combat-capable or magic-oriented class, too. You can tell that Jason Buhlman has gone to a lot of effort to re-balance the classes and make them interesting all the way from 1st to 20th level.
If we do incorporate these rules, I'll miss some things (like the Repose domain's death touch ability)...but I'll enjoy other things (like Turning Undead serving as healing power in the form of positive energy). Either way we go, I'll still find Istas an interesting character to play...

I've just remembered that I have an extra feat to spend. I'm sure I've looked over a feat where I can deal non-lethal damage without the penalty to attack rolls but I can't remember where I saw it.
Not only will it help when it comes to dealing with Lamm's Lambs but it also fits the character of Jubrayl. Where he can, he would rather drag a criminal back for questioning and the full wrath of the law rather than killing him outright.
Arctaris
Yeah, they made cleric more interesting. Before you got some fairly uninteresting abilities at first levels and then the next 19 levels you got nothing in the abilities column.
I really liked the changes made to rogue; Talents looks like a great way to customize a character even more than you normally can. I especially like the 20th level ability. Master Strike I think. It really has the feel of the class and it gives a) a cool, unique ability at 20th level and b) it gives the rogue a little more melee power.
The changes to wizard were okay; I didn't get to the Mgaic and Spells chapter so I haven't read either the Domain powers or the school powers. I liked that having an item as a familiar is now a core rule. Some stuff was published in Unearthed Arcana about it and in a Dragon magazine but it never really became a mainstream thing for the wizard.
The changes to the fighter were knd of meh for me; of course I only play a fighter when I'm playing a feat heavy melee build or when there's nothing else that fits a character concept so there's not really anything wrong with it, I just don't have much enthusiasm for fighters in general.

I'm sure I've seen this somewhere too. I'll look through my books and see. You might try BoED if you've got it; it seems like something that might be in there.

Can't you achieve the same basic effect with Improved Unarmed Strike? No penalty to attack rolls. No worries about causing an attack of opportunity. Of course, you can't piggy-back with the rest of your feats for wielding a weapon, but it will open the gateway to things like Improved Grapple...which would seem to fit Jubrayl even more if he plans on apprehending criminals a lot.

Wizards got one of the best power-ups in my opinion...and they needed it, honestly. It always felt to me that 3rd Edition (and 3.5) made the wizard a lot less dangerous (especially at high levels) than traditionally seen in 1st and 2nd edition D&D. The thing I like the best is the revision to arcane specialty schools. Basically, there's a power defined at 1st level that's practically useable all day long...so you won't have a wizard totally run out of magecraft to hurl into a fight just because he ran out of spells for the day. I also like the tweak to the arcane bond ability to widen it out to include objects and not just familiars. Having the ability to cast any single spell that the wizard knows once per day with a bonded item is a big, big deal. It gives his spellcraft a lot more spontaneity, which was really missing in the class before. So, of all the class alterations, I really like the wizard the best. And it'll be interesting to see what they do to tweak the sorcerer down the road.
The changes to the fighter were knd of meh for me; of course I only play a fighter when I'm playing a feat heavy melee build or when there's nothing else that fits a character concept so there's not really anything wrong with it, I just don't have much enthusiasm for fighters in general.
The changes to Fighter were a bit less compelling, but I think that's okay. Most games have become more combat-focused and that puts the Fighter way out in front of the other classes anyway. So he didn't need a lot more. What I do appreciate, though, is that he can offset much of his armor check penalties (for Climb, Jump, and Swim) at higher levels, and increase his AC at the same time. It's also good that he can more easily acquire proficiency with various weapons. I've always thought that Unearthed Arcana's rules for Weapon Groups made a lot more sense, but if you used that rules-variant, you often wound up with a lot smaller overall set of weapon proficiencies for a Fighter than most players prefer. At least this method allows a Fighter to grow into an ever-increasing sense of weapon mastery...both in breadth and depth. So I like it.

I think we were consulting, how to assault (or prepare an assault) on Lamm's "stronghold". Everyone agreed, that putting Lamm out of comission was in their best interest.
Yup, that is how I read it too, concensus seems to be a daylight raid....
I'm ready to move on whenever everyone else is....
I take it as it is now around an hour after sunset, everyone will want to go to their respective homes and meet again in the morning at the docks?

Yes. Istas generally wouldn't be walking around town with her grandfather's spear and shield, but she'll bring them with her in the morning.

What about the Pathfinder Alpha Rules?
Looks like we are incorporating them a little at a time, as noone has said they don't like the idea.
So we will leave the Chars as they are, and incorporate the combat rules as we need to, then as you each level up, we can rejig the characters to assume they have ben using the pathfinder rules from the word Go, so as well as the benifits of going to level 2, you will get the benifits you would have had at level one if we had been using them all along.
How is that?
Any preference from people as to the XP track we should be on? I am tempted to go with the one that closest matched the normal 3.5 track, so you would need 1300 to hit level 2...But I am open to suggestions.

That sounds fine, though it may seem a bit odd. For instance, will we just apply the +2 racial bonus for humans to any single ability score at 2nd level? And what about skills? I spread many of Istas' ranks in very small amounts across lots of Knowledge skills. But, if we convert, she'll need to lose a lot of those and shift back to the exact number of skills allotted for her class.

I'd say go with the one that most closely matches the adventure (i.e., 3.5's XP track). Otherwise, you'll compound the adjustments you'll need to make by juggling the CR's and EL's even further.

I think so, it's a massive change in game terms, but not realy in character terms.

Skills are going to be the most difficult change, I would say just stick at the 3.5 skill usage rules (which makes a mockery of a bunch of the new/changed feats, but we can work around that case by case).

:)
Well, this adventure path is designed for the 3.5 system, so "fast" if I remember rightly, going with medium or slow, would mean you were overall lower level at any given point....then again, I am probably going to leave encounters alone (and hence easier for a party of 6 than they should be, at least to start with, I may change my mind about that) and introduce a few side bits to level out the XP, so it shouldn't be a big problem....
My own opinion is that pbps go slower than normal games, so fast leveling will feel more like normal leveling than in a real life game....
Neil Spicer Contributor, RPG Superstar 2009, RPG Superstar Judgernaut

I think I prefer that, too, actually. By leaving it point-based, it gives us room to dabble in a handful of things along the way. Plus, a lot of the synergy bonuses go missing in the Alpha rules because several skills got combined. But some of those bonuses can really add up...so I'm in favor of staying 3.5...provided you can work through the related feats on a case-by-case basis.
On the other hand, I am in favor of including some of the skill-related changes from the Alpha rules. For instance, a lot of the classes received some new skills as class-skills that I think we could still incorporate. Appraise makes sense for clerics and wizards, as it can relate to assessing the abilities of magic items. Clerics and wizards also get Linguistics (which is an amalgam of Decipher Script, Forgery, and Speak Language)...and I think it's okay to give those classes the 3.5 equivalents as class-skill options. Fighters get Survival as a class-skill now, and I think that's okay, too.
So there's room to allow some of the skill-related changes without switching wholesale to a non-point-based method for purchasing skills.
Just my two-cents,

Only at the bookshop I'm afraid.....If you fancy copying the crunch, and letting me know the cruch, I will post an email adress for you to send it to, chances are i'll ok it...
Sorry for the delay this weekend everyone. Both of the computers we have at home that can browse the web have died since friday morning! So posting this from my mum's dial upand then won't be back until tomorrow morning....
I'll still be fine to post from work, but evenings are going to be a little problematic.
Last thing I need really, this month I'm moving house, moving Jobs, and the other half is 6 months preg!
