Any possibility of finding some other board software?

Website Feedback

I realize that's a very tall order, as the board software seems to be the backbone of the whole website, but the rate of post munching on this board is really sad making. It's very hard to have a coherent game or conversation when posts, threads, and even entire sections keep disappearing, even if they eventually reappear.

That being said, Gary and the rest of the tech crew have my utmost respect and sympathy. Dealing with this ravenous board code must make for sleepless nights, and lots of crying into your coffee while beating your heads against a wall.

There is no tech crew! It's just Gary (and to an extent, Vic). :(

Poor Gary (and sometimes Vic).

I really need to get around to updating and sending in my resume so I can give Gary a hand.

(If only there was a way to get a job at Paizo without having to quit school or move. Then I'd have no conflicts.)

Ok, so it's not isolated.

I'm also getting major lag about 2-3 times a week. And then there is the deaf server problem Vic mentioned.

I'm not complaining about this BTW, but I do hope it is fixable. And I hope it's not messing with Gary.

*KA grovels at Gary's feet, pushing a sack of beer toward him through the dust.

It's not just the boards, but you generally won't notice any other effects.

We know a lot about the problem, but we haven't found the perfect solution yet—it's kind of a matter of trial and error (and unfortunately, it's not something we can test behind the scenes).

Rest assured it's pretty much Gary's top priority.

Is there any way any of us can help out?

I doubt I can add more knowledge to the pool, but I'd be willing to toss some cash your way if'n it might help.

I'd kick in as well.

From what we've seen they best help would be finding another programmer so gary doesn't have to do it all himself... and new faces bring a different view on the problem. But Gary is so busy working on the boards that he can't interveiw, so you have to do that too... maybe give him an ear-peice and a video conference line into the room so he can interview from the computer while he works?

Cpt_kirstov is right: the best thing anyone can do to help is to find somebody to fill our job opening: http://paizo.com/paizo/about/jobs.

In better news, Gary rolled out a new solution for the change notification problem late yesterday. It's too early to say if it's completely solved the problem of out-of-sync postings, but it's already proven to be better than the last few attempts.

Some of us have applied, but our code-fu has been deemed unworthy. Granted, most of my coding experience is in C++...

I would think web developers would be a dime a dozen around Paizo's parts, though. Maybe you should offer to pay in Paizo product... :D

I'd love to. I am just on the wrong coast. And no one I know is willing to move.

What is the next best thing?
