Recruiting - New Play by Post - Conquest of Bloodsworn Vale

Gamer Connection

Hello All,

I'd like to check interest for a new PbP on these boards. I'd like to run five of my fellow Paizonians through the excellent Gamemastery module, Conquest of Bloodsworn Vale. I have run games in the past by e-mail and other message boards, but this would be my first game on this site.

As I realize these things tend to fill up fast, and I hope there will be strong interest in this game...I'd like to recruit a little differently. Rather than go on a first-come first-served basis, I'm going to hold recruiting open for 3-4 days, allowing anyone who's interested to throw his/her hat in the ring. Then, I'll pick five players at random from that pool. This way, it's a fair shot for anyone who wants to get in.

A few more details...the module is largely wilderness based, for 6th level PCs, and set in Golarion (in the wilderness pass just southeast of Varisia). Like I said above, I'm looking for five players who can commit to at least one daily post, as I'd like to keep things moving along at a good pace.

I'll save full character creation rules for after the play group has been drawn, but here are a few details that may be of use. 28 point buy for stats, no evil alignments, no psionics. I will be doing all dice rolling, providing links from Invisible Castle.

Well, that's it! Give a shout if you're interested, and if you have any questions, feel free to ask. I'll draw the player names (if more than five people express interest) early next week...probably Monday.

Thanks!
Ashendel

The Exchange

I am losing my pbp in the near future, so I'd like to take one of those chips for a possible place.

Cheers Ashendel

French Wolf, you are chip #1!

Thanks for your interest!

Scarab Sages

I am definitely interested.

I have already read the module, will that be a problem?

The Exchange

My lucky number (on my D20)

Oh the waiting.

Thanks for the quick response, I'd be surprised if you only get 5 chips out there.

Ungoded, you are chip #2.

I don't mind if you have read the module, but I ask that you please keep Player knowledge separate from Character knowledge. That prevents things being spoiled for everyone.

So would I.

Or, to put it another way, I will be very disappointed if I don't get at least five.

Random draw seemed like a fair way to give everybody a shot.

Just lost a PbP. I'd be very happy to join yours. If you want to roll all the dice, that's a plus for me.

thereal thom, welcome.

You're chip #3.

If it won't spoil any RoRL, (as I'm in a campaign) and you guys can handle a virgin PbPer I'll throw a chip in. I'm a veteran of 1e who recently came into the 3.5 fold but it shouldn't be a problem.

What pace are you expecting?

Do you want people to post proposed character concepts?

There aren't any spoilers for Rise of the Runelords, as far as I can tell, so it shouldn't be a problem.

It's also not a problem that you're new. Everybody has to start somewhere, right? Amardolem, you're applicant #4.

I'm expecting to post daily to keep the game moving at a good clip. Prospective players should be able to keep up with that as a general rule (although, of course, there will be exceptions as real life intervenes, I well understand).

I'm interested.

It's not necessary, but you certainly can if you want. I don't want anybody to put in too much effort on a character that might or might not have a place in the game, however.

Still, if you have an idea you just can't wait to share, be my guest.

Billzabub, do you want in on the player drawing? You didn't explicitly say so in your post.

Tarren Dei, you're #5. :)

I'm already in two PbP and have been trying to refrain from joining another, but what the hell - throw me in the pool. I mostly sit at a desk during the week and can post multiple times a day, so a fast paced game sounds good. What level do you expect to start at?

I'll take a slot in the pool.

I'm interested. Assuming that you're looking for about a post per day, and I don't need to know the setting, then add me to the list.

Billzabub is #6.

Sean, Minister of KtSP is #7.

Art is #8.

Answers to questions:

Billzabub, characters will start at level 6. There's a bit of info about character creation in the first post of the thread (including starting level, actually), but I figured I'd save the nitty gritty details until the play group has been drawn.

Art, about a post per day is perfect. As for the setting, you certainly won't need to be an expert, but it might be helpful to know a little bit about Golarion and Varisia...that way when words like Korvosa, Cheliax, Shoanti, etc., get thrown around you won't feel totally lost. My advice, download the FREE Pathfinder player's guide you can get ahold of right here on this site, and that should help you out a bunch. If you get in, it will also help you create your character.

Heh - now I feel dumb. I've downloaded that and read it already, but didn't connect the Conquest of Bloodsworn Vale with what I'd read.

Everything is so much clearer :-)

I'd like to throw my hat in the ring.

I'll take a chip.

Sovereign Court

I'll take a chip.

Hi all!

Bray Abbitt, you're #9.

Pat o'the Ninth Power, you're #10.

Stunty_the_Dwarf, you're #11.

Art/Will, there's no reason to feel dumb. The PF guide doesn't explicitly link itself to this module, after all. Still, I'm glad things have been clarified for you! :)

The Exchange

Can I take another chip? It will improve my odds?

Word travels fast round here.

Cheers

Sorry, French Wolf, one per customer limit. :)

Yeah, down to 50% odds. Come on lucky dice!

I would like a chance to join as well.

Sovereign Court

I've just joined my first PbP last week but it hasn't started up yet. I'd like to try this one though. I do have all the books but I haven't cracked the spine on any of them yet. I could easily handle a post a day.

Camris, you're #12.

Guy Humual, you're #13.

Hey all, I think I'm going to go ahead and cap this at 15 entrants, just to preserve some kind of odds for you all. This recruiting has been open plenty long now, I think, for a fair shot to be given to any who are interested. So, next two people to throw in hats are the last. Drawing will take place tomorrow, in any case.

Lucky 13 eh? I'll cross my fingers. I'd love to play in this game because I want to get a feel for the paizo setting before I run it as a DM.

I've never done a PbP but would really like to give it a go. Could I get one of those chips?

I would like to snag that lucky last chip if I could.

Terry Dyer, you're #14.

LongreachJones, you're #15.

And, with that, gentlemen, the time has come to close the recruiting process, and draw the players. The process has been open for a full three days, and we have 15 interested applicants. That's plenty fair, as far as I'm concerned.

To recap the potential players:

1. French Wolf
2. Ungoded
3. thereal thom
4. Amardolem
5. Tarren Dei
6. Billzabub
7. Sean, Minister of KtSP
8. Art/Will Cooper
9. Bray Abbitt
10. Pat o' the Ninth Power
11. Stunty_the_Dwarf
12. Camris
13. Guy Humual
14. Terry Dyer
15. LongreachJones

Okay, I think I'll do this by heading over to Invisible Castle, and tossing a d15 a bunch of times. The first five non-duplicates to come up will be the players chosen. If anybody bows out or no-shows, the next guy on the list gets the chance to take the spot. Okay, here goes nothing...back in a few.

1d15=7, 1d15=1, 1d15=10, 1d15=4, 1d15=6, 1d15=12, 1d15=13, 1d15=5, 1d15=11, 1d15=9, 1d15=3, 1d15=1, 1d15=8, 1d15=6, 1d15=5, 1d15=12, 1d15=7, 1d15=12, 1d15=9, 1d15=12, 1d15=6, 1d15=14, 1d15=6, 1d15=5, 1d15=3, 1d15=7, 1d15=15, 1d15=12, 1d15=4, 1d15=8

And there it is, fellas! The lucky numbers are 7,1,10,4,6

Congrats to:

Sean, Minister of KtSP
French Wolf
Pat o' the Ninth Power
Amardolem
Billzabub

If the five of you could head on over to the Discussion Thread for this game, we'll get you cracking on your characters.

As for the rest of you, thanks for your interest. Also, you might want to keep an eye on things here for a few more days, because if any of the above don't show up, we'll keep going down the list. So, the first three alternates would be Camris, Guy Humual, and Tarren Dei.

Thanks, all!

Have fun guys.

Congrats to the lucky winners. Have fun.

I'm looking for a DM and maybe a player or two over here if anyone wants to give D0 a try.

Hi all,

French Wolf has decided to decline his spot in this game, so that means the fifth spot belongs to an alternate. Camris, you're first up to claim the spot. Please head on over to the Discussion thread (linked above) and claim your place, if you are still interested. If I don't hear from you within two days, we'll move on to Guy Humual.

Thanks!
