Deep, or "too deep" if you must.

I thought all cats were girls.
Almost all calico cats are female (silly genetics).
Cat reproduction is freaking crazy. The males have a barbed penis (yowch!), and sometimes the females give birth to a litter with different fathers (like, the kitten that dropped out right behind you would be your half brother).
I really need to get on Jeopardy some day soon, sigh...
One summer when I was still in high school my mother woke me up out of a dead sleep to go out and assist my cat, which was dropping kittens like mad on our front porch. Good times!

Let me guess: your other/previous cats were Saruman and Gandalf?
Good guess. Our beloved Sarumon is dead, and yes, he was a cat, but Gandalf was actually a cockatiel. He out-lived many of his mates. Also, we have a Sauron, and she (yeah, I know, we thought it was a he) is a chicken. She's out-lived nearly all of our pets, too, at the great age of about 3 or 4! And Radagast is a male name.

ok; call out to all you cat lovers; what is the best way to make friends with some hostile cats; not kittens; cats; not sure how old. I am figuring bribes of cat treats if they stop hissing at me long enough; figures I would put one down and back up; kinda like cats do when they bring you a gift. i dont speak cat; but thought that might work; any ideas?

Direct eye contact is kind of confrontational like it is with many animals (and people). Some cats are just mean though and it might be very difficult if not impossible to turn them around. I've always had cats around and they almost always like me, but one of my friends roommates had an older cat that was extremely anti-social. She liked no one other than her owner and would hiss at anyone who got too close to her. It never changed.
I saw on Discovery channel one time that cat kisses are slow blinks.
First slow blink is best 30 days after your first meeting ;)

The treats seem like a good idea. And if the cat isn't hissing at you, but is just being cautious you might be able to slowly put your hand out and let it sniff you as an icebreaker.

; what is the best way to make friends with some hostile cats; not kittens; cats; not sure how old.
1. Attempt bribe, do not touch cat, and keep hands clear. Do this over the course of several days.
2. Extend hand (rubbing it in some fish oil certainly doesn’t hurt either, but watch for bites!), allow cat to come to you. Allow cat to smell and or lick your hand.3. Allow cat to rub against your legs if it wishes.
4. Attempt to pet gently in only one direction. Watch for changes in moods or shyness, this could be a prelude to being bitten.
Alternately:
1. Establish direct eye contact. Challenge cat.
2. Do not look away under any circumstances (I always win staring contests as I just let my contacts dry out).
3. When the cat looks away, you have begun the process of establishing dominance. You may need to repeat several times.
4. Walk firmly but not aggressively towards the cat on day two or three. If the cat rolls over, you are making great progress. DO NOT pet it on the stomach for the love of cripes. Cats do not roll over because they want to be petted (at least not for a long time)! You will be bit.
5. Spend time near cat, if cat comes to you, you might attempt to pet, again, watch for mood changes.
6. Now bribe with cat treat.
Alternately:
1. Wait for cat to bite you. Bite cat back harder (Sounds silly, but I’ve used this on my oldest cat and we’re best buds).
As always, beware of rabies, feline pneumonia (which you can’t get), lice, ear mites, mange, etc…

Lol; hehe
thanks all for the tips.

I have an 8 year old Tabby named Kiki who was pretty mean when we first got her from the shelter. She would swipe at my face when I picked her up and would run from us. But, she's warmed up (it's been 8 months) and she'll now come lay on my tummy when I read a book or batter her way into the bedroom in the middle of the night to be near me.
