"The greater evil lies ahead of us, friends."

Etienne recites a short prayer.

"Let me be the gauntlet about Her fist,
Let me be the sword at Her side,
And the enemy shall be defeated forevermore."

Male Elf (Crying Leaf) Transmuter 1

Talacyst peers into the dark passage ahead of him, saying, "Should we seize the moment and continue this way, then?"

Right then, so should we head for the top or take the long way in? It's worth keeping in mind our supply of spells and such.

Liberty's Edge

After travelling about forty feet another passage veers off to the right again. You can see ahead that the passage you were travelling finishes to a dead end. The passage to the right leads directly into a room. You can tell right away that you are leaving the roughly carved out passageways into a room carefully built chamber by someones hands of ancient. In the center of the room is a red marble statue of a strikingly beautiful, but, at the same time, monstrously enraged human women, her stony expression twisted in fury. The women wears flowing robes, and her long hair is held back from her face by an intricate headdress of hooks and blades. In her left hand she carries a large book, the face of which is inscribed with a seven-pointed star. Her right hand holds a glittering metal and ivory ranseur......

You are now facing east into the room which is a 15 by 15 space. To the north is a door. To the east a passageway leads up several small flights of stairs at 5 foot intervals leading up to a door. To the south a passageway goes 25 feet and dead ends but there are two passageways leading off to the east from it.

Male Elf (Crying Leaf) Transmuter 1

Talacyst notes the ornate statue, and after considering it for several moments decides to err on the side of caution. He works a simple spell to sense magical activities in the area...

Detect Magic. I'll sweep the entire room, making sure to cover the statue well.

Female Elf Druid 2

An arrow notched in her bow Vraelyn stands guard as she waits for those more skilled in the matters of the arcane and traps to look over the room.

Male Halfling Rogue/3

Taking a moment to load his crossbow. Talam, eager to check the room, makes his in behind Etienne.

Listen 1d20+6=23; Spot 1d20+4=24; Search 120+7=26

Etienne surveys the area, alert for any threat. He guards the entrance from where the party came from, to ensure that the group is not attacked from the rear.

Spot and Listen (1d20+2=12, 1d20+2=22)

Liberty's Edge

Its quiet, no unnatural sound can be heard except from the little sounds coming from your group as you move into position. The room is as you see it, nothing out of the ordinary but the old statue. Talacyst sends out his arcane senses, looking for signs of magic but comes up with an empty feeling from the room. After a bit of time passes you pick up in the distance, as you all stand ready, a faint rippling of water can be heard as you all strain your hearing trying to hear any possible threat. Its coming from the long hallway with the stairs..... It just sounds like normal water moving its course. To the north a door. To the east a long hallway with small flights of steps heading up and then another door. To the south a passageway with two more passageways leading off it to the east.......

Talacyst releases his focus, and, steadying himself on the wall, says, "There's no magical traps here, at least. And the statue isn't magical either."

The wizard looks to his party, silently asking which way they should go.

Male Elf Ranger { Skirmisher} 1

Black leaf is tired of standing waiting for someone to make a call. Without saying a word Blackleaf moves toward the long hall way and up the stairs.

Male Halfling Rogue/3

"Looks like our path is set" Talam smiles as the elven barbarian begins down the hallway.

Liberty's Edge

The elf barbarian leads the way down the long hallway. You accend up each small flight of stairs raising ever so slightly in elevation until you come to the doorway. You all can hear water rippling from the other side of the door. The door looks to be in good use and appears to be locked.......

Male Elf (Crying Leaf) Transmuter 1

Talacyst looks at the door, then nods to Talam. "This will be your area of expertise, I think."

"We got your back."

Male Halfling Rogue/3

With nod to Talacyst, Talam goes to work. "Shouldn't be too hard"

Search 1d20+7=20; In case it's rigged Disable Device 1d20+6=15; Open Lock 1d20+8=10

Liberty's Edge

The door is an easy mark for the halfling who takes a minute to check if there are any dangers, finding none he easily opens the lock and the door itself. Inside you can see a small circular stone pool lined with skulls, smears of what looks like blood mar the pool's rim in places. The room itself is small and circular (15 by 15) with the pool in the center there is only 5 feet around it. On the opposite side of the room from you is another door.............

"Foul corruption and blashphemy! Touch nothing!"

"There is no need for divination to conclude that we are in the presence of evil."

Etienne steps into the room, sword and shield at the ready. "Shine the light into the darkness."

Male Elf Ranger { Skirmisher} 1

Blackleaf sneer at the unholy room and makes a sign to ward off evil before heading toward that door.

Male Elf (Crying Leaf) Transmuter 1

Talacyst takes care to follow the other, more combat-oriented adventurers into the room. He leans against the doorframe just inside the chamber, bow in hands, trying to keep quiet.

Male Halfling Rogue/3

Making his way through the room, Talam starts on the next door.

Search 1d20+7=10; In case it's rigged Disable Device 1d20+6=12; Open Lock 1d20+8=21

Liberty's Edge

As Etienne lets Talam pass who is heading toward the next door, a hideous creature with distored human head suspended from leathery wings drops out of the darkness, you can see in place of hair, it is crowned with writhing tendrils and its eyes burn with a menacing green flame. Its heading directly at Talam's head...Blackleaf notices its and gives a warning shout. Talacyst sees it second and joins in the warning yell. Vraelyn who is still out side hears all the comotion coming from in the room but also hears a disturbing noise from behind them....

Roll Init and your actions!

Male Halfling Rogue/3

Initiative 1d20+4=6...WHAT IN THE NINE HELLS!

Talam hears the warning, but so consumed with fear is unable to move fast enough.

"I got a bad feeling about this", he mutters under his breath.

Attack with crossbow 1d20+6=8...
do I dare post damage; Damage 1d8=3. Really...gods can this get much worse. Oh wait never mind it can!

Female Elf Druid 2

Vraelyn tenses at the comotion from the room but keeps calm. "There is something behind us also, I'll investigate" She calls out certainly to the group before stalking off in the direction of the other disturbing sound with her bow at the ready.

Initiative (1d20+1=21)

Male Elf (Crying Leaf) Transmuter 1

Talacyst sees the thing dropping out of the shadows, but he too is so startled by its sudden appearance that he hesitates for a crucial moment. Regaining himself, gets ready to help in any way he can.

Initiative. (1d20 3=12)
If Etienne or Blackleaf gets into melee before I act, I'm going to cast Enlarge Person on one of them to give a boost in combat. If I go before them, I'll keep as far away as possible and shoot with the bow. Shoot with shortbow, if I need it. (1d20 4=12, 1d6=5)
Dang, I hope everyone else rolls better than Talam and I did...

Male Elf Ranger { Skirmisher} 1

Blackleaf seeing the halfing in danger roars into action, dropping the torch and slicing into the thing with a sideways chop

sigh 9 hit, 8 damage

Init=10

Leather Wings and distorted human head. Evil most definitely. Can someone roll init for me? Can't connect to IC for some reason.

Male Elf Ranger { Skirmisher} 1

25

I roll better for you then me lol

Liberty's Edge

Init Order:
Etienne
Vraelyn
Flying head creature
Talacyst
Creatures behind Vraelyn
Blackleaf
Talam

Vraelyn sees out of the darkness approach two creatures that look similar to the one you fought earlier, both moving at the same pace, a slow steady pace but both see their destination directly in front of them.................

Male Elf (Crying Leaf) Transmuter 1

Having seen the initiative chart, I'll cast Enlarge Person on Blackleaf, since he'll then be able to attack in the same round... That should do it for me.

Male Halfling Rogue/3

I have a bad feeling about this *funeral dirge playing in the back*

Liberty's Edge

Was waiting for Etienne and Vraelyn to post actions but I am going to put them on delayed action to keep things moving

The flying evil head swooshes by Talam's head and circles around, it opens its mouth and lets out a terrible shriek. Everyone in the room knees shake and their heart pounds faster with fear. Your ears throb with pain, you can't think straight, your feet won't move and your eyes never leave the creature......

The creatures pause for a moment but they continue on after a few seconds toward Vraelyn......

Everyone make a Fort save, except Vraelyn who is outside the room. She can hear the shriek but can't see the creature so is not effected. Talacyst, make a concentration check to see if you keep your spell.

Fort (1d20+6=22)

Action

Smite Evil Attack vs. Flying Critter; Damage (1d20+7=22, 1d8+4=9)

"By the light of Iomedae, I smite you!"

Sorry for the late post, Zoom. Since the creature is flying, I imagine smiting it would be like hitting it with a tennis racket and it bouncing off the walls.

Male Halfling Rogue/3

Fortitude save 1d20+3=11

Male Elf (Crying Leaf) Transmuter 1

Concentration check (1d20 5=10), Fortitude (1d20=4)
Aw hell. Looks like I just failed both...

The unnatural presence and screams of the creature badly disrupt Talacyst, though he struggles to maintain both his bodily health and his concentration.

Male Elf Ranger { Skirmisher} 1

IC hates me
fort 5

Liberty's Edge

The shriek freezes Talacyst, Blackleaf and Talam with fear, they stand there looking at the creature, unable to move, they just stare at the creature in fear. Etienne however is not effected by the shriek and send forth some of his divine power at the creature sending it flying into the wall behind it, killing it with no problem. The two monsters approach and attack Vraelyn who is standing ready, she somehow dances around all of the monsters attacks and stands there with a smile on her face. With the creature dead the fear wears off from the heroes......

Wow talk about some bad dice rolling all around. The monsters couldn't hit the wall if they tried!! Next round and everyone can act, Etienne to the rescue!

Male Halfling Rogue/3

Yay Etienne!

Male Elf Ranger { Skirmisher} 1

make note to buy that man an ale

Female Elf Druid 2

Obviously a little shaken from the bloodcurdling screech and the task of fighting off the two creatures alone Vraelyn's arrow flies wide but she quickly notches another and prepares to shoot again.

Ranged attack (1d20+2=8)

Male Elf (Crying Leaf) Transmuter 1

At least one of us could do something about it. Nice one!

Frustrated after losing control of one of his precious spells, Talacyst decides to avoid risks and instead fires an arrow at one of the creatures (moving as needed to get a clear shot).

Shoots with Shortbow. (1d20 4=8, 1d6=2)...maybe my luck isn't over yet.

Male Elf Ranger { Skirmisher} 1

Blackleaf moves in with a wild swing at the closest one.
10 to hit, 7 damage

IC still dislikes blackleaf

Male Halfling Rogue/3

Shaken, but not out Talam moves to flank one of the monsters.

Tumble to avoid the AoO 1d20+4=11 yesh; Attack 1d20+3=4 FUMBLE!; Damage 1d4+1=2 1's all around!

Good God, it's affecting almost every single one of us... let's hope it doesn't last.

Liberty's Edge

As Etienne is finishing off the evil in the other room, the rest of the group rushes out to help Vraelyn with the monsters attacking her. She shoots another one of her deadly arrows at the monsters but misses wide of the mark. Talacyst turns around from the room and fires off one of his own arrows but also misses. The creatures attack taking swipes at Vraelyn with their deadly claws, only one hits her raking its claws along her arm(5 hps dam). Blackleaf enters the fray with his trusty axe and makes an attempt to kill these ugly creatures. His axe fails him tho. A small form goes tumbling out of the room and into the melee, swinging his blade as he comes up but judged the distace wrong and comes up short.

Next round

How many baddies are with me?

Female Elf Druid 2

Vraelyn gives a tiny yelp of pain at the wound she sustains from the attack but quickly silences herself with a slight frown as the others rush to help. Stepping back and away from the creatures she unleashes another arrow.

Ranged Attack (1d20+2=12)
damage (1d6=1) - *headdesk*

Liberty's Edge

Etienne, you are alone in the room with the tainted well, there are two creatures in the hallway with everyone else!

Vraelyn unloads her bow again at the sinspawn and watches as the arrow streaks passed the creature she was aiming at.....

[ooc]Talacyst turn in the init order plus Etienne gets his action yet![/ooc

Male Elf Ranger { Skirmisher} 1

can Blackleaf get to him?

Liberty's Edge

Yes, you are about 10 to 15 feet away! Just right at the doorway now next to Talacyst.

Male Elf Ranger { Skirmisher} 1

Then by the gods Black leaf charges!

With a bellowing yell Blackleaf charges toward the creatures ax high as his legs pump with might to close on the monster/

Black gods hairy balls IC hates Blackleaf..9
