That's neat. I haven't ridden a horse since I was 19. I always felt guilty in the saddle, figuring that at the halfway point I should share the burden and put the horse on my back, then carry her back to the stable, whinnying all the way. I've always had some pathological need to share responsibility.

I hear ya, kinda like being invited somewhere to dinner and ending up in the kitchen doing the dishes.

James, I've seen your work, you'll totally knock em' dead. Don't be nervous, just picture them in their underwear, it's good for a laugh anyway. Just be careful who you're picturing, some of those visions could scar you for life. *shudder*

Thanks, Jade and Lena. I'm going to be very careful about whom I picture naked at this event; I mean, we are talking about a comic book convention. Not that there won't be people I'll want to imagine like that at this event: I just don't want a repeat of my last "special event" where I ran shrieking from the room to cower in the corner.

Most awkward graduation ceremony ever. I don't think Radio City Music Hall has seen something like that since....well, actually, they probably see that fairly often.

GTs:
1. Dinner with the family at our favorite restuarant
2. Lamb and Pork Cassoulet became one of my top 10 meals of all time tonight. Wow can chef Julio cook!
3. Almost all errands done
4. Picked up previously ordered copies of Undermountain and Sinister Spire.

All the kids are gone for the night, just me and hubby home, and we got paints and minis spread all over the kitchen table.

hubby: "hey baby we're all alone."
me:"you know what that means right?"
hubby:"yep, no kids here to bump the table."
;)

Too funny.

Two minutes ago:
Bryce (my son) comes to my office with his mother to say good night to daddy. He looks at my computer screen leading to the following exchange:
Bryce: What's that red thing?
Me: It's a Cthulu.
Bryce: What's that?
Mommy: It's a toy monster.
Bryce: I want the toy monster.
Me: You have a lot of toy monsters.
Bryce: I want the real toy monster. I really want Cthulu!
Me: *laugh* I have so got to go post this right now.

Wow. We do indeed swim in the geek juice. I love my boy!

Swimming in geek juice, heh heh, I like that. C'mon in, the water's fine! Oh, get your boy the toy, I mean, it's Cthulu man, it's the ultimate in toy monsters.

My son, 4 calls the boogey man "go go man."
So my daughter, 2, started telling him a story today about how she saw the "go go barney" in her room while she was taking a nap.
It's Barney with the go go template, I don't know.
My daughter, the monster inventor. So proud.

Oh well. I have cats and am getting a new puppy soon.

I hear that. Cats and dogs are fun though too, and if you starve yourself a bit, and get a big breed puppy, you may be able to ride it, especially if you train your stronger cats to walk under your feet while your saddled on the dog. They act as footbearers and help keep some of the weight of the pup's spine. Try it. You'll be glad ya did.

Or I could get some of my big guy friends to give me piggy back rides. >:D

Good things-seeing my mom today for the first time in about three weeks, going to the sweet old movie theater in town to see a move and only spending $14, and getting a bit of clutter out of my room finally.

Would volunteering be too much like flirting?

Passed all my tests wOOt!!!

1. Magnus is the best! He went out of his way to pick up D0 for me today!
2. Despite very frustrating allergies, I'm going to go take a nice long walk with my son.
3. Plans for his 4th birhtday party next weekend are going well.
4. Sunny, beautiful day.
5. PbP still going pretty well.
6. Golden Grahams. mmmmm.

Silver Crusade

Listening to Mascagni, eating imported loganberry jam on bed from local monastery and sipping pomegranate iced tea.

Listening to my 13 yr old son in the kitchen making homemade herb bread for tonights salmon feast. Getting to see pictures of all my new friends on another thread (thank you Jade) and having a nice relaxing Sunday. These are good things.

1. Sweet and Spicy Chicken from No Thai for lunch
2. Met with potential business partner and it looks like we will be starting the consulting company together after all. Time to finally follow the dream! Now to find a web designer who can help that isn't outrageously priced...
3. Lots of time with the three year old this weekend.

After a whole week of not being in my house until after 10pm, I've been able to spend the whole day here without interruption and just being able to veg. Ahhhh, relaxation!

Had a decent time at the convention, though I'm not sure if it helped get people to my website. But I saw a lot of my friends from the cartooning department at school, met a comic artist that I really liked (was amazed that he draws himself skinnier than he is; blasphemy!) and ran into one of my teachers.

Had a few drinks with a friend I hadn't seen in a while. Working on a system of exchanging small pieces of art through the mail with some of my friends in order to keep everyone drawing.

We're going to play D&D in a few weeks! Had two of my players over to discuss the campaign and characters and we settled on doing a fun horror campaign (set around The Styes!) with a kind of casual structure (thanks to FH and everyone else on the boards for helping me consider how this will work), mostly using all the awesome Dungeon adventures that I haven't been able to use yet. Escape from Meenlock Prison, The Automatic Hound, The Styes, And Madness Followed, Shut In and an introduction scenario that I've been rolling over in my head for a while. Waiting for my copy of Heroes of Horror to come in the mail so I can take a look at it for the campaign. Maybe I'll do a campaign journal on here.

Helping out at the Society of Illustrators on Saturday, setting up the first comic book artist centered Art Out Loud student benefit. These are always a lot of fun, seeing how professionals work and then usually getting indian food with them after the event.

Too many great ideas for paintings and drawings; going to have to really get going to take advantage of them.

Scarab Sages

Had a pretty good weekend. Mrs. Zombie and I used our new Webber Grill for the first time on Saturday to make hamburgers and corn. Also picked up a book I had ordered at Barnes and Noble.

Had a great D&D session on Sunday. We kicked some ass, even though we were short-handed and two of us had negative levels. At least one character (i.e. mine) almost bought the farm several rounds in a row, but the reward was worth the punishment. He got a new great sword (+1, metaline ability), an animated heavy steel shield, and a belt of giant strength +4. Of course, I hate to think of what the DM's going to throw at us now.

It seems to me we could all use a bit of the positive in our lives. I know I could. This is the place to list good things in or going on in your life. Despite the frustrations, there is always something good going on, isn't there?

Good things for me from today:
An hour long walk with my 3 year old Bryce and an unexpected call for an interview on Friday for a job that I really want/need.

In this world of doom and gloom (Divorce and California Alimony payments) there aren't many things to look forward to. But since this is a post about positives:

I was able to re-fill my regular gaming group. We dropped from eight regulars down to three (That is is addition to me the DM). We are now back up to a Healthy six member party. Can't wait to get started again with Paizo's newest offerings at the forefront.

Our gaming session went great tonight. Everybody was awake and engaged and it was really fun.

My son finally went for an entire day without getting grounded off of his toys for being disobedient so I can finally give him back the mound of toys off the high shelf. He's gonna be so happy :)

LOL. I know what you mean about the kids shows. I swear I sing stuff from the Backyardigans in my sleep :) I'm excited to see someone else learning to enjoy my favorite hobby. More gamer girls is always good.

1. The newly forming PWSG (Paizo Wives Support Group) :)
2. Gaming session was fantastic
3. Advanced half fiend will o wisp from Monster Ecologies helped rock the room. Lovin' that book!

Lucky, you missed the teletubbies era. I prefer sesame street hands down :)

3.5 is really easy to understand, and once you start playing, you'll pick it up quickly. My hubby is the DM in our household, but he directs all questions relating to characters, classes, etc. to me, and trust me, I'm not the brightest crayon in my little box, so if I can catch on, you can.

Thanks for the input I will keep you in mind if I have any questions. I too am glad I missed the teletubbies!

Good thing for the day: Making new friends in this great little world my hubby has shown me!

Teletubbies is high art compared to BooBah...

Nothing like teaching kids old people falling down is funny... oh and if you want something you can't reach, stack stuff up to get it...

Good thing: My kids outgrew that crud

and welcome to the cult Nani Wahine

I actually watched part of an episode of BooBah with my nephew *shudder* I turned it off and gave him a toy lightsaber, heh heh heh, I love being an Auntie, I can't wait til I'm a grandma, my kids are going to hate me.

Got an email yesterday from a gentleman at Nickelodeon whose job is to look through schools for people with a strong focus on illustration and cartooning for future freelance projects. He said he was impressed with my resume and asked for four jpegs as samples. Fingers crossed, though I'm sure there are laws against me making art for kids.

You can do it James, your art is awesome! Hope you get the job.

My 4 year old is eagerly anticipating being stron enough to swing one of my long swords...

thinking of getting him a wooden one at the medieval faire, but afraid he will use it to clock his younger brother

Hey good thing, medieval faire starts in 2 weekends

Despite the many frustrating pieces of life, there are still a few good things happening:
1. Talking to my waitress last night I discovered that she and her new husband are avid gamers and might be looking for a game. What a coincidence that I happen to be preparing to run Shackled city! They are coming by for a visit Saturday so we can see if we think we are a 'fit' for each other. This is eerily similar to how I met another of my fantastic players, Magnus on these boards. Must be something in the food... :)
2. Bryce actually went to bed close to on time, though not before clocking me in both the nose and my broken finger.
3. Nearly ready for the birthday party that our son is sooooo excited about.

Same thing happened here, but as soon as i got the sword from my friend, my parents freaked and were wondering, What are you going to do with it or it is too dangerous when my nieces come up... which is true so it is in my closet.

We started our youngest son on bamboo, so it wouldn't hurt too bad when he clocked his younger sister with it :)

In Ferro Veritas... I let my four and seven year old kids practice with my saflex daggers. The blades are about the right length for them for doing George Silver or I:33 lessons (my current favourite historical swordfighting manuals). They are steel, but not sharp and the ends have plastic safety tips. And I don't let them hit each other with those yet (I need to get masks that fit them). I built a dozen or so foam-padded pvc pipe basket-hilted broad sword for paired exercises for teaching little kids, and those I mostly let my kids run wild with. I have freaked out a few other parents by saying things like "Hey! Don't hit your sister with a sword unless she has one too!"

My good thing for the day is that since this will be my first game I am having to get everything together and I did my stats today all by my self and posted them. My husband checked them as said that I did a better job then he did so that made me feel good.

My 4 year old daughter gave her 1 year old sister a hug and kiss today without me having to ask her to do it! It made me smile and melt my heart at the same time.

Gramma is coming on Friday to take both of the girls for the first time since I had the baby, we will have no kids for the whole weekend. We are going paint balling and to a party and for once don't have to worry about the kids. Its going to feel good to be liberated, I am excited about it but am sick so I plan to spend Friday taking a nap in hopes that I will feel better, ah imagine a nap not involving two kids climbing all over me, not having to read Cat in the Hat 4 times or them not falling asleep and me wanting too. I am so excited!

No word yet from Nickelodeon, but something pretty interesting happened last night. A while ago I read The Etched City by K.J. Bishop and then wrote a lengthy, constructive review on my blog. Last night (after putting up a new entry with a new sketch) I got a very nice comment on the review from Kirsten J. Bishop, the author, addressing some of the things I had talked about and thanking me for the review. Strange thing this internet, you never know who you're going to meet.

Swordwise, I am the oddball of the universe. I am using the fighting style of Kaeritha (Kerry) Seldansdaughter from 'The War Gods Own' paired swords, a little shorter than a long sword should be for me. When i get in the tick, it is scary efficient, when I don't, I bang my own swords together and make a fool of myself.

My wife has her own sword, so we get to play together sometimes. The result is the older boy wanting to emulate mommy and daddy... But he is just at that magic stage where he is willing to push or hit his younger brother for what he wants. I am truly afraid to arm either one until they are both old enough.

Hmm, need to practice more

I have a suggestion for you. Buzz-Bee Toys has foam swords, foam short swords with a scabbard and foam shields for sale for between $4 and $6 each. I have 2 basket hilt swords, 3 longswords, 2 Shortswords w/scabbards(more dagger-sized to adults) and 3 shields that I picked up at TOYS-R-US, instead of having to order online. I beat the hell out of my kids with them and they don't hurt (just joking, I don't really hit them too hard with them, but they haul off and nail me with every swing and it doesn't hurt).

We battle! My kids and me just have some of the most action packed fights you've ever seen! My daughter(4) is vicious with dual-swords, and little man(2) whips the short sword around like a whirling dervish of death! I prefer the sword and board method or dual wielding baskethilt swords as I find the need to defend the "nads" area is pretty important due to an occasional solid whack with the tip of a sword. I highly recommend these toys for any young warrior!

Cool, we are having the big birthday party saturday (combined since birthdays are only 10 days apart, and well, I guess that means me and my wife shoud do it more than that one day a year) and we are taking the boys to the local toys'r'over-priced the next day, to spend their birthday haul.

Good things..?

I'm out of work with stomach ache. But Richard Pett hasn't contacted me in 67 days...

Paizo Employee Director of Sales

Strindberg and Helium.

I was just reminded of these four hilarious cartoons this morning and had to watch them again.

Really funny stuff.

Spoiler:
August Strindberg IRL, grace a Wikipedia.

Bleeeeeeedinnnnnnnnng...

After two weeks of wrangling with the bureaucracy, I'm finally registered for the last course I need to complete my degree. Also, I get to play D&D for the first time in a year on sunday.

Not that I'm counting.

1. Free lunch at Krazy Jim's Blimpy Burgers Today. Yummmy quintuple burger with egg and bacon. (Or heart attack on a bun as my wife calls it) :)
2. Lunch with good friend yesterday
3. Getting away to see Oceans 13 last night (even if it wasn't that great)
4. Bowling with a buddy today.

Today will eventually be over.

Also, it's pub day!
