Got my first pay cheque roughly three weeks late yesterday. I'm ridiculously overpayed at my present place of freelance employment (for as long as it lasts; I find out tomorrow if I'm going to be full-time or not into the foreseeable future and either way they likely save a lot by not providing benefits).
Dude! With the transport hassles etc, I'm glad they at least (at last) paid you.

I know. I haven't gotten my abacus and run the numbers yet, but it's going to be at least one more cheque before I've actually gained money rather than spent it. But they're still one behind and I put in my next invoice on Friday, so no huge worries.

Its sunny outside!

We have 2 1/2 pounds of delicious, organic, guilt free coffee with another 2 pounds arriving in a week and a half!

I've written three good stories this week!

I went to Bodyflow, a combination of tai chi yoga and pilates, and didn't suck! Quite the accomplishment, considering it was my first time and I've never done yoga or pilates. I'm very comfortably sore.

My new favorite word is McAvoyeurism!

It appears that the State Tax return has just hit my checking accout. Now if only the Federal Tax Return would hit...

The Exchange

Speaking of Taxes....got almost $5,000 coming between state and federal! Oh yeah, THATS how we are gonna pay for Catholic school for daughter....Thank god I didn't have to find some other way to come up that money.
Yea! We break even but get a better school for sissy.

I got dwellers of the forbidden city for my birthday a couple days ago from one of the guys in my gaming group :)

Looks like my brother and I will be selling our script of death and destruction this year as well, so 2k8 is my favorite year ever! I have been through some rough times in my life and it's so fun to have everything finally fall in to place.

*don't ever give up is the lesson I have finally learned in my grognard 30's.

I just sent emails to Ed Greenwood and Gary Gygax!

Of course, now I feel like some lowly slave attempting to commune with gods, so if you don't hear from me again it's because I'm quivering under my desk in fear of divine retribution.

I went to Catholic School for eight years (just tossing my hat in the ring there).

If at first you don’t succeed...

A while back, I posted this oh-so-clever thread to announce the fact that I was going to be a daddy.

Shortly thereafter, I made this horribly depressing post.

Well, as it turns out, my wife is pregnant again! 10 weeks. That puts conception at about 2 - 2.5 weeks after the miscarriage. Seems my little swimmers are pretty determined.

We had the first ultrasound yesterday. I’m already that guy who goes around showing everybody pictures of his kid.

Man, life is crazy.

Huzzah! I finished my NBIC course today. We took the practice test and I got an 86. Woohoo! Now I go next week to take the real test, and if I pass I become a certified boiler inspector.

My lovely lady quit smoking. That is good in and of itself, but she's been going crazy cleaning up our cluttered house as a way to keep herself occupied and fight the cravings. My good thing is that she found a small flip-top pocket-sized notebook that I used to carry around all the time and jot game notes and ideas in. Getting that back is certainly a good thing. I can't wait to do more to these notes!

WooT!!! I think my federal taxes just hit! DAMN, but that was fast on both of them! ~sighs~ Now to wait for my yearly bonus check to arrive, but that will be next month!

Gratz Adam! Tell her to keep up the good work. ~sighs~ Smoking was one of the 4 or 5 things that killed my Dad, so I hate cigarets a lot!

I'm getting married today. I'm nervous, but it's a strange, almost zen nervousness, like being in the eye of the storm or something. See everyone afterwards.

Good luck! Bet it is tougher than it sounds, some of those apartment and schoolhouse boilers are older than I am!

Daigle wrote:

Good for her! I don’t begrudge smokers their vices (I’m not about to ditch diet coke), but it’s always nice to see someone work towards improving their health.

I wanted to make a “talk about getting right back on the horse” joke here, but I didn’t want you to think I was referring to your wife or anything, so I’ll merely allude to the fact I was going to make the joke. Nothing more awesome than the, “WRAR! LOOK HOW FERTILE I AM!” moment, rofl. Congrats!

Can you have too much of a good thing? how many is to many? If things are going super great; does that mean the axe is about to fall?

yesterday was a near perfect day; great weather; good time with the kids in the park; no fights with the ex; fun with friends; great local hockey games though the Scorpions lost; amazing snuggles and backrub afterward. Wow, yesterday was pretty awesome; hope the rest of you have an awesome day.

On my way to have my surgery finally, very cool. Thanks for the support and kind words all (big help). I’ll post shortly before I come around enough to be coherent (funnier that way) to let you know how it went. See you on the other side! ;)

good luck, brother!

Hola. Frickin’ Ouch. Home now, but dizzy, not a ton of pain anymore. Cancer is out, and I got to keep a lobe, despite vehement protests. Can’t really look up far yet. Take care all.

Glad to hear that all went well. Here's wishing you a speedy and complete recovery!

BTW, who was protesting? You or the doctors?

Sometimes you're just struck by the whole confluence of life's little joys and victories.

Sunday night I was grilling some trout and corn on the cob, reading an article in Texas Monthly about Townes Van Zant and listening to B.B. King on the radio. My kids were playing happily inside... together. My wife was crochetting with one of her friends. The weed before we had done the squirrelly-assed voting we get to do in Texas, we got to go see They Might Be Giants down in Austin, we are in good health and employed (after being out of work for most of the past year). I have good friends in my life, both nearby and on-line.

Sometimes it's just nice when you allow yourself to stop and recognize all the little things that add up to be everything to you.

Finally getting the girlfriend her own transport after a year and a half of her having to be chauffered by me (it turned out that our current car's configuration completely disagreed with ankle problems she has, and put her into physical therapy whenever she tried to drive it). We pick up a new Yaris on Friday. Payments might be tricky, but she is so happy to be getting back some independence again.

Me. I wasn't leaving without some of my neck intact. ;)

And, as destiny would have it, when I got to the shoe store (Bostonian) they were having a sale! Huzzah!!!! I got a nice pair of Italian-made, leather dress shoes for only $130.

Also bought a second pair of shoes - a brand called Unstructured, which has to be the most comfortable pair of shoes I've ever had the pleasure to put on my feet.

I was in the local convenience store, drowning my sorrows in close to a gallon of straightedge whiskey*, when Kyle, a friend of mine from high school that I hadn't seen in a while, walked in the door. We spent a good half an hour catching up on the times, and I found out that he works not three blocks away from where I do. Huh.

Every guy I've known named Kyle was good folk.

I'm not sayin' its a benchmark, I've just been fortunate.

Got word the other day that I passed my NBIC test, so I am now a certified boiler inspector!

I'm stuffed to the gills with potato salad, greenbean casserole and homemade biscuits with strawberry preserves and honey butter. I think I'm going to explode.

Order a sketchbook from Guy Davis for $20 and he'll not only sign it to you, he'll also send a copy of the BPRD Hellboy spin-off he draws, signed, and give you a little drawing. Sweetest guy, draws the most f&!!ed up monsters. A man after my own heart.

Congratulations!

Was going to post a picture of it, but I’ve scared enough people with my “second smile” this week, hah.

Got the results from the surgeon yesterday: The incision site looks good, no signs of infection at all (sweet looking scar too). They biopsied the right lobe, the bridge, and part of my lymph node: the right lobe was 90% cancer (yikes!), but the margins were all clean, which is great news.

Now I wait six weeks before I head back for more tests, but luckily, I don’t feel like crap because I kept the left lobe.

Paizo Employee Director of Narrative

Awesome news, man! Glad to hear it!
