Hello all,
fairly new to the boards, but not to gaming. Having a hard time finding a local game that suits my already taxed schedule. So I thought I'd look into PbP.
I was wondering if there was a primer out there for play-by-post...covering say, ettiquette, conventions, how rolls are handled, character sheets.
Thanks in advance...

Welcome to the boards. You will find this to be a great community. I am also fairly new to the PbP games. I have only been doing it for 3 or 4 weeks. That said, I already feel like I have been doing it for years. My suggestion. Read over some of the games currently going on. This is what I did. I am currently playing in the In The Eye of Stormreach & Crimson Conquest games, but the other games are equally excellent. I have read through many of them.
After reading thru them to get a feel, check the boards regularly until a new game pops up or when a current game is looking for players due to somebody dropping out.
After this, have fun. Show some dedication and put yourself out there. Again, this is a great community, so don't feel like like you will botch a post and ruin the game. We were all beginners once. Just a few weeks ago.

Hey, Sovereign. Welcome to the Paizo boards!
As far as etiquette, style, etc. you'll find that it differs from game to game. Some DMs are pretty lax about initiative order, action declarations, and character descriptions. Others are more strict and prefer their players to post in a certain way. You'll really need to check with your DM to see what kind of game they intend to run and how they want you to handle certain things. There are a wide variety of styles on the boards here, so I'm certain you'll find something to your liking.
DF, maybe you would like to start a new game? Two is plenty for me, thanks. ;)

Like others said, no primer, but reading the existing games can help. You'll see lots of different styles...
Speaking of different styles, I agree someone should start another game... And don't look at me running 1 is quite enough. Would like to play in another though...

Ever is interseted let me know( i guess i will have up to 4 people)
I guess i will have the discussion thread here(if that is fine).
IF there are other books that you want to use i may have them, i just forgot to post it, so just check with me on it.
HIstory of the world-( i have a map currently being made by Mr. Shiny so when it is don't i will post it up.) The World is split into 2 lands and in the middle a tiny island. They used to say that the gods argued so much that the land split into 2. Sadly wars are going off now and peace is turning toward Chaos, it is hard to trust and you will never know who will be your friend or foe. The east land is full of forest and mountains where elfs and orcs are still battleing. In the center is the castle of Cren(named after a god) the west lands has more forest that is unnatural(Purple tree, blue grass) and the other part of it is full of desert. The Tiny Island in the middle is "land of the unknown" people who go there never come back.
(i will post more info soon... i have to go )

How do we separate a play-by-post series into threads?
E.g. We have a game going and people split up, with some going to the right and some going to the left. It'd nice to be able follow one set of posts all responding to the "Right hand group" action thread while ignoring the set of posts all responding to the "Left hand group" thread, or vice versa.
Is there any way to set this up?

I've found that generally the "spoiler" tag is a good way to handle this sort of thing, rather than starting a new thread. For eg:
Right Hand Group only:
Left Hand Group only:
For this to work to best effect the players should also reply within spoilers.
