I know that Pathfinder subscribers will receive the book in PDF format as well as printed format. My question, though, is how those PDFs will be delivered.
Will we need to download them from the site? Will there be a CD included with each mailing (egads, I hope not)? Will they be e-mailed to us as an attachment? I'm just curious.

Awesome, okay. I wasn't actually planning on USING the PDFs since I prefer my material tangible, but having them available for download no matter where I am is handy. I'm also glad that there won't be CDs (which would likely get lost, broken, or thrown away) included with the books. Thanks for the feedback!

Oh, another question... what kind of security settings will be on the pdfs? I'm hoping to be able to run this face-to-face, but if I end up having to run an online game, will the pdfs be OCRd? Will you be able to copy/paste from them?

A little while back I purchased Dungeon 112 online from the Paizo site, as I wanted more information regarding the "Seeker" organization. If the new PDF's are similiar to what I received, then yes, they are OCR'd (which is awesome), and I had the ability to copy from one and paste into notepad without difficulty, although the documents themselves are locked from editing. There is a nifty watermark header and footer with your name, transaction #, and e-mail on each page as well.
Two parts I did not care for:
The single issue came in SIXTEEN different pdf's (likely to keep the size of the download down), forcing me to unbind all the fancy protection so I could knit it into a single document.
Bandwidth. I'm a total bandwidth slattern, and it's only going to get slower once everyone is getting their own pdf.

The PDFs that Paizo will likely produce (and I'm totally speculating at this point, I don't work for Paizo) will be generated directly from the software that Paizo uses for layout & design, thus resulting in a much greater quality than you could get from OCR. Adobe Acrobat lets you take snippets of text or images from PDFs, I believe.

Haldir wrote:just curious & this is for security sake, but will the pdfs have some sorta "watermark" or something on them, so they won't get abused by torrents & other file sharing stuff. Most assuredly.
What is a "watermark" and how does it stop the file sharing abuses?

A watermark is an encoded message in the PDF, so that if someone starts sharing his PDF, Paizo's lawyers will be able to find out who purchased the orginal and prosecute them if necessary.
Ah, Ok. Thanks for the information. I was thinking along the lines of real paper watermarks, rather than an electronic signature.

The PDFs will be GREAT! This is perfect for creating LOTS of player handouts. Less time scanning the magazine = more time developing the scenes! Wait a minute...I'll be able to cut and copy from the pdf, right? I hate screen captures and cropping and ...errrghhhh.
Ahhh...the answer lies in previous posts. I should read more before posting...

That doesn't decrease the size of the download—it actually *increases* it by a small amount. We did that so that if you're interested in looking at just one article, you only have to open a small PDF that contains exactly what you need instead of one huge one that includes the whole issue. It's a lot easier on people with older computers, or less memory, or palm devices.

I notice in the Transition page that initial Pathfinder suscribers will get not only the hard copy of each issue but a pdf copy of each issue as well. Will this be standard for those who have a hard copy subscription, or will there be an additional fee to get the pdf of each issue?
Subscribers will always be able to get a free PDF of the issues they received as subscribers. Non-subscribers can buy the PDF for $13.99.

I finish college in a few months and will be moving into a new apartment. Since I don't know the exact circumstances of my living conditions during the next few months I have decided not to start subscribing to Pathfinder yet, but rather make single orders every month until things clear up. Do I still get a free PDF with the issue if I make single issue orders from the Paizo online store?
